1. practice. then you won't find it as difficult and will relax. That or glenfidich
2. I still think calling something with a maple neck a thumb is daft mind!
3. Big up red dog in edinburgh who have a load in. I just tried one of the Korean active corvette 5 strings. Skeptical on Korean warwicks but surprisingly good! Very very good quality of construction and finish, sounded good. Preamp wasn't as nice as the one in my older wick but yeah, surprisingly good.
4. Farida... and it's a PJ but the overwater/tanglewood thing is worth a look too
5. nothing, it was the 6 pints each you all had drunk beforehand
6. heavy and long- a pain to pick up an strap on.... but once on perfect balance.
7.
Yeh luke (the guy you sold it to) is a good friend, and a great player! I had the pleasure of setting it up for him recently! Such a good bass! Still cant beleive how little it sold for in the end! Anyway's ive just bought the pickups i need so need to get these nordy NJ5's sold! Any interest out there?
yeah it was silly low. I bought it as I thought it would work out, and if I didn't I could sell it for the same price again. (Maybe i should have given it longer, but hey, Luke's loss, Luke's gain)
8.
I played a couple recently in-store. One was a California jazzer and the other was similar with humbuckers. They felt great, necks were fast and the sound was punchier than I was expecting. I was really there trying out another bass that was half the price but trying the Sandburgs just highlighted the gulf in quality. I don't have much experience playing basses over the £1000 so can't compare it with others but they felt good to me.
(not directed to you btw, just a general thought) I think it's a good idea to play as many basses as you can, in as many price ranges- and with an open mind. Judging them on feel/playability and tone. What I realised is that some basses are hideously overpriced, and some very very much underpriced for what you are getting. (the cravat being yes maybe the bad ones were really actually good and just badly set up and I was too daft to notice that and don't worry I won't say anything bad about your particular favourite bass.... ) So something like the Tanglewood/overwater are far higher quality and tone than the price suggests. And Stingrays I would say are bang on quality/price wise... It's only when you play things with $8000 list prices that you start to see the top end of what could be possible with a bass... and that helps work out if your £1000 is worth spending.
9.
Ive just seen that bass actually!! Candy apple red four string jazz yeah? No42? My friend owns it Im changing beacuse i prefer hum canceling pickups, thats all plus i prefer the sadowsky boost only pre
YAY! a nice bass, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside to have sold a bass to someone and it still gets played! Wish I lived in the states, Valenti are fairly cheap over there!
10. look in the sale forum, find something, then ask questions about a specific amp. £500 will get you something nice
11.
emagnetsuk. Pcb works for the flat work. Fibre board is cheaper in large bits but that's a lot of pickups. You can wind them using a hand drill (the kind you wind by hand). You have to keep the wire nice and tight but you can also do this by simply holding the wire between pieces of felt. Thin wire (.42swg) and 20x5mmx20mm alnico rods will do it for a humbucker. Bar magnets are good, but they need steel 'rails'. The handdrill gets clamped to the bench with a piece of .5" mdf with counter sunk carraige bolt that gets chucked into the drill. The wire bobbin stands on the floor directly beneath the winder. Make sure you sand any burrs of plastic of the bobbin. Fix flatwork to the mdf 'winding plate' with double sided tape (vinyl floor tape b&q). Wind the drill with one hand and tension/guide the wire with the other hand. Takes about 20 minutes. You need a very steady hand to do this and it's pretty simple to set up a tensioner with guide posts. Tape down the wires and lightly sand off the coating to test the output and seal again with laquer. You can then pot them in wax i you can bung up all the holes in the cases. This is easy with wooden cases that have only 2 holes or so. Plastic cases with exposed pole piece designs are always going to be tricky. You can dip string in hot wax and wrap that around as a lively alternative. Potting basically stops the pickup turning into a microphone.
useful.... and the chance of making something sounding good?
12.
Its a jazz, ice blue metalic, thinking about it, it could be #104 haha i can never remember
woooo sexy bass! nice I had a valenti for a while- possibly the best bass i'll ever own- but I didn't get on with it! Why the change of pups?
13.
Bump. I'm going to have to put it on ebay soon if there's no interest. Price drop: £550 posted.
hint: photos create interest
14.
What are the new Trace heads like? As clean as the originals?
In my head trace is one of the most coloured tones around!
15. warwickhunt on the warwick hunt. You've be after a SS2 since you sold your last one, what's the craic with this one? it not work out for you? oh and 4 or 5 string?
16. when this first came on here back in april, I thought - thats nice. but I live too far away from leeds. Now i live in leeds!
17. in theory yes... but then how do you make that a rule?
18. to be fair the fella also has it on gumtree.
19. seeing that you're going to have to open it up to see whats up with the pups, stick it in the japanese one
20.
Its number 106 so is only a year or so old, has 2 batteries
106 is a P bass????
21.
Yep. I respect that. I have tried a lot of Jap and Mexican Fenders and they have that missing something to me. I think it is the basswood bodies, common in the Japs, doesn't seem to have the ring for me. I've played ordinary MIAs before, but those that have really made me grin have always been string thru MIAs.
ahh all the japanese fenders I've played/owned haven't had basswood bodies. the better ones don't. I really dislike the current american standards- not sure why. The highway ones were nice, and played some awesome ones in the american vintage range - but the idea that all american are better than all japanese is daft. A good japanese bass will be maple and alder/ash like a US made one, from what I've played I prefer the japanese made necks.
22. It would take a very good bass to better my '57, nae going anywhere!
23.
Problem is, until a year ago or less they were in the reach, unlike the Audi. I don't see what Warwick have done to warrant the increase apart from reduce their carbon footprint, which they should foot the bill for.
they were a small exclusive bass builder making it all by hand.... then they became big and made lots of basses- not as good as the older ones but people bought them. then I guess people stopped buying them as much and they wondered what they could do, and while fender and everyone else just tried to cut costs they raised the quality again and dropped production levels, if you make a higher quality product the prices go up.
