Partly as a “I should try this” I designed and ordered some pcbs last year for a project. 10pcb cost as much delivered as a pint in a city. learnt a lot, made the mistakes etc but it was interesting even at low order numbers how cost effective getting the boards populated were- it made me wonder about squeezing some projects into 1590a size enclosures the main downside would be a minimum order number of 10 I think which would cause a whole heap of problems.

I’ve got one, it’s fantastic the blue one is aimed for guitars and doesn’t have the detune and has a pre delay. I guess the button must do something different too

It’s actually quite interesting how you see more and more “boutique” manufacturers moving towards SMD construction

I think if we get up to 100 resistors and 65 capacitors you have to be considering the TC electronics £40 version of that - with the added benefit of not being my shoddy soldering!!

Depends Aguilar and Sadowsky preamps are from a similar family design wise, the Sadowsky preamp is boost only at 40Hz and has been popular for a while... I've managed to use it without it being mush.

just had a tidy up. It's amazing the selection of random ICs I've collected. Any idea what to do with a handful of LF353?! Also found a LM4250 I bought to repair a stingray preamp but didn't need, and a MN3207 BB chip!

I think the zoom stuff has been hacked into so it can be controlled via midi but its not designed to be in the way helix is

How close to gotoh aged? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255740592855?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=zc32U3psQnu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=g-S2GOEbSbm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

P preach it brother

no clue where to look, (new COG?) guess I'll check back here in 3 days!

A secret pedal?!

using the Mouser BOM thing it was also £80

so one of the things I dislike about DIY is that a resistor issue cheap if I need lots, but mounts up if I only need a few of a given value, and the more likely a company is to have all the parts I need, the bigger volumes I need to buy. I switched with the last few projects from Musikding to CPC and Farnell and another one I forget the name of... So the rough cost of all the parts from CPC, Mouser and Musikding is coming too was about £80 - excluding knobs or PCB. Probably that would come down once I switched the CPC stuff to Mouser (I started on CPC, it was fine till I got to diodes and IC) and also when I crossed off any bits I already had The expensive thing, other than the case, is the £12.50 TEC 3-0923 power converter - from 9v to +-15v - given my cioks can do +15v there would be cheaper ways of getting a -15v from that but not without headaches. not a cheap project

I mean it's @tauzero that spotted it - with my limited electronics expertise I don't understnad that bit of the circuit and I'm not even sure how he could tell! (edit though it's the same on the schematic as the older L5 preamp they have been selling for years)

Wired directly to board though

Oh balls - I know I’m going to be pricing the parts up this week. Either a good idea or a bad!!

Guitarguitar still have one…

I think that sounds like a good choice

I’ve got a John K mini XO that does this quite nicely A lot of it depends what kind/type and level of dirt you want though. I’m not totally in love with the drive/distortion sound of the mini XO - but I love the sound I can get out of my DIYclone of a barbershop

I guess they don’t have Bob Moog or his old team from the 70s on speed dial…. Aeon isn’t a bass player either so channel one is kinda fender like, and channel 2 is “different”

Function band ! Can you actually make a living ?
LukeFRC replied to fiatcoupe432's topic in General Discussion
@fiatcoupe432 - the overall tone seems to be "it's hard to make ends meet doing this" - I hope this is useful. I think you started another thread a while back about opportunities in music to get away from your job. A bad job can be soul destroying, but not all jobs are and even if the dream of full time bass player isn't going to be a full time role I hope you find something else enjoyable to do. I used to work on minimum wage in a cafe, and despite shift hours and low pay it was fun and enjoyable - I've worked in roles with better pay, but worse in every other way. My brother was seriously stressed in his role, and quit and ended up freelancing as a video editor and was a changed man (good money too) - sometimes a jump to something else that isn't the dream is worth it because it either makes you happier, or lets you work shifts and start working on the music income streams. -
No, if they only work with Moog onboard preamps I'm fine, phew. Thanks for saving me!

that is one cool bass one of the best basses I've ever played was a 1977 brown stingray.
