1. really? My JAN is about 22 years old on a bass that's been played a lot over that time... and it's fine- ive never heard of any problems with the original JAN
 2.
C`mon Luke, what is it. I just want to see if it`s the same one I was thinking of!
this one. the seller is a right ******** http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 though someone managed to deal with him it seems!
 3.
Yes, late 70s are fetching good prices. My 77 was £1350, and my 78 was £1200. And in all likelyhood, they will only go up in value - 10 years from now I reckon nearer the £2K mark.
doubt it will take 10 years (depending on the economy)
 4. hmmmm....
 5.
magnetic pickups are inherently passive transducers, perhaps the battery powers a fixed active eq? Or an active buffer? I'm not about to dismantle and check, so i'll live in doubt
active pups, like EMG's, will have a active buffer as part of the pickup housing.
 6.
Already happening, really nice examples of '82 Fullertons (Guitars more than basses, but they will follow), with V00 serials, and all the case candy, in custom colours, are already being marketed at $4000, well over double what they were two years ago even! Thats because the majority can no longer afford the pre-CBS stuff, the same as with 70's stuff, as you said earlier. The added bonus, is that the Fullertons (Earluy ones) are also great guitars, not just collectors pieces. (Not as good as the '82 JV's eh Luke, but still good!) Here's a fine one, $3800 anyone? http://www.gbase.com...-1982-reissue-1
do you think it will go beyond there? I mean everything since fullerton stuff kinda blurs into one as they split production across mexico and the states and japan- I guess the custom shop stuff will hold it's value
 7. though there does seem to be a 30 year rule... about 30 years after they were made Fenders start to go up in value - when I started playing 10 years back late '60's fenders weren't desirable and you avoided the 70's at all cost.... now early, and even late 70's fenders are shooting up in cost to buy. Next stop the early 80's fullerton stuff??
 8.
"If you want to buy a Streamer Stage I (never touched one) this is not for you and they are crap IMHO" This comment has cut me to the bone! I have worked hard all of my life to be able to buy myself what i thought to be half decent basses. I now smell the coffee, the 3 Warwicks Streamers i own are indeed crap! Oh well, goodluck with the sale/trade i bare no malice!
try them with barts in I love mine now!
 9.
I'm thinking of buying a vintage bass, largely as an investment, to play at home and maybe very very occassionally for gigs etc. I hear lots of talk of this year is better than that, this colour is better than that etc etc but I'm keen to hear advice on this. My likes are:- clay dots/rosewood board; sunburst, blonde, fiesta red or sonic blue - don't care if it's a Precision or a Jazz - would need to be fully functional and as original as possible - i.e it would need to have the covers and case etc etc. If a Precision I don't like the pre-57 shape. So guys, please advise - what do you think is the best year, colour and model to aim for of a pre CBS Fender, bearing in mind it's intended to be an investment and increase in value.
PM the one or two experts we have on this site. They will be able to give a wee bit of advice and point you in the right direction. (though bear in mind you are getting their knowledge and skills in the area for free.... so don't take the P!) Personally - and unless you know what you are looking for and how to get a bargin, I would have thoguht that as an investment better things might be found outside the oversaturated 50-60's fender market!
 10.
Yes. What a lot of people forget is that funk and disco were 1970s bubblegum pop, regardless of how good the instrumental performances were (and I love Bernard Edwards as much as anyone). Lyrically, the song's no better than S Club 7's "Don't Stop Movin'" and nobody would ever accuse that of being anything more than throwaway.
err... I think that that S Club song is amazing- quite of there stuff was classic and brilliant pop. Motown was 60's pop, but we all like james jamerson. I just like music, I like bits of funk, bits of reggae bits of soul, bit's of ska (both types) bits of jazz, bits of pop, country, folk and bits of rock- life's too short to start differentiating what I like or not based on genre. I've some bluegrass on at the moment. Interesting music happens when something from one style goes into another... Plus interesting stuff
 11.
I think the most important thing about a bass is its wood, as the wood pieces of this insturment :the body is Warwick and the neck is hand-made. This is a Warwick Streamer Stage with amazing specs. If you want to buy a Streamer Stage I (never touched one) this is not for you and they are crap IMHO. The construction is set-neck, the luthier cut off the neck and carved it to make a set neck construction and the new neck has an asymetric shape just like a Michael Tobias insturment. The nut is not original, its changed due to neck and fboard replacement. feel free to ask any questions. ta View My Video
Is the body from a 1990 streamer stage one or is it from an LX or rockbass or something and how do you know? I'm guessing the black hard wear is new though? as i would be surprised if a standard 1991 streamer stage one would have had black hardware
 12.
And let's face it, most of us like people to admire our taste in basses.
funnily the only people who I know who have admired my basses have been lasses. And warwickhunt cos they don't weigh much
 13.
History of this bass: i have bought it in 2007, played for couple of months but it was not the bass i want, then i have decided to turn it on to more wooden sounding and tone monster. step 1: the original 5pcs neck was loser, 2 pcs wenge in the neck and a wenge fretboard wasnt the best chioce for it. Basically the maple body has a compressed sound, for sure, so the best neck for this bass has to be 3pcs maple asymetric neck with a 5A west african (gabon) ebony board and the construcyion is set-neck. A world class luthier made it for me, hes not well known here in UK. Old frets were not so punchy and now your touch is punchy! Step 2: I wasnt happy with -the only own character- barts and the 2 band MEC preamp. Delano pups and preamp is just Awesome!! now it gives the woods growl, hot, organic and piano tone. Step 3: A very talented artist and the same luthier made the aged finish and the airbrush on it.
That makes sense, I was looking at it and thought the neck and headstock was slightly the wrong shape. Another question- that's not the original nut is it?
 14. I think also... lets take an example.... silddx sticks a bass up for sale. A few of the folk who have been around longer and know him, and maybe even owned/played the bass chip in... it lets other people know that actually the bass is desirable (and if you buy it and don't get on with it you might find it easier to shift) and also that the person is a decent one. There is at least one item in the forsale section that's been there a while, only the seller and the odd newbie post there- and theres a good reason I think why folk who've been on here longer give that particular item a wide berth....
 15. I dunno, another way to put it is it's a form of social bumping of the thread. Also you have no idea what's going on behind your back by PM.
 16.
Ive been looking for some musicman style radio knobs, and upon finding them on a site, i find out they dont take orders below 250 units.... This is the thing in question http://www.ehcknobs....c105&series=105 Anyone fancy buying 250, and selling me about 3-10 of them ?? So, that being out otherwise, anyone know of a source for some close imitations?
http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=0&Ntk=gensearch_001&Ntt=categorynumber5213 ???
 17. effect loop out, something to blend the kick in, and then into the effects loop would be a more sensible option
 18. yes a stupid idea
 19. what's the history of this then? how come the stainless steel frets? and it doesn't look like the original nut either? also where the finish is worn down on the neck, I can see a grain is that the wood we are seeing? where are the wenge stringers or is it not down to the wood?
 20. photos? rosewood shouldn't have that much grain. you sure it's rosewood?
 21. is "hit me with your rhythem stick" indie?
 22. that's great. I don't get it though- it doesn't look anything like a real alembic preamp does it? just another LPF pre, I guess based around a state variable filter and designed to work with alembic pickups.... interesting circuit though
 23. take the E string off and stick it on another bass. That will tell you if something on the bass is breaking something in the string. Is the tension the same/similar as the zingy strings?
 24.
I spent a considerable amount of time playing 2 artist signatures. IMO they were only marginally better than the Squier VMJ fretless that cost about a tenth of the price.
which tells you something about how good that squier is.
 25. where are youuuu?
