1. Bit of info... where did you see the Ad?
 2. no, a good response.
With any bass you try in any shop, a lot can have happened to it in between leaving the factory and you picking it up to play it in the showroom.
very true, I went into one major guitar shop and tried about 20 types of jazz bass. A lot of necks with high relief... and one or two which were at banana stage that I actually went and told the shop guys. Apparently the temp in the shop varies so much they go all wobbly. (why they don't just keep the shop warm at night too I don't know) Give it it's due the Lakland was as straight as a die.
 3.
Is it me or is the Warwick bass becoming a cool stage accessory again?
what you mean when the company went back to making more boutique instruments and also spending time and effort on PR and communicating well with guys like us on the forum? yeah, makes sense. Hopefully I'll track down a JD thumb before the price skyrockets!
 4.
The pickups magnetic field spreads in an arc and is not so specific as to be effected by a few millimeters difference. The misalignment on Laklands usually involves the string being towards the pole piece above its centre position , still well within its magnetic field. The point is that if they spent more time on such things as the pickup alignment at the factory maybe they would have to charge even more.. At some stage it seems they have made a decision at some level ,for better or for worse, on what their priorities will be. All companies get feedback from dealers and consumers on what the issues with their products are, and then decide how to respond, if at all.
meh, squier can get it right a lot of the time on a budget instrument. It is as you say a question of time spent in the factory. And partly I guess how much Lakland pays Cort to spend time on their basses, factored in with the "value added" of the Lakland brand and the amount of profit lakland want to make on each bass. Basses are funny things, you get to a point where a lot of the far eastern made basses are made by the same couple of manufacturers and badged with whatever- one comes out with one logo on it and is £1000, a similar, cheaper hardware for £300- or just different priorities. Like blindfold test a Skyline Lakland, or Tanglewood Overwater, or A Cort GB, or even the Cort Sandberg line series.... is there as much difference essentially as the recommended retail price would suggest?
 5. if you haven't seen it... I enjoyed it... http://youtu.be/3yRMbH36HRE
 6.
Weight! Forgot about that.
one i tried was about the same as my Peavey T40 - but no way near as balanced.
 7.
The M212 is now £850 directly from Tecamp. Eeeek. The Puma 900 is a pretty similar price.
been about that price for years hasn't it?
 8.
Chuckles "did"
they are funny things. Sometimes when a thread like this starts and it's something I have, you sit and consider letting the bass/amp go... now I have a 210. can't for the life of me think of a reason why anyone would want to move on a tecamp cab, unless they had several cabs. It's wee, it's lightweight, it sounds good- what more do you want? Sorry musicman20 - this isn't helping is it?
 9. I played one one in a shop not so long ago, not sure what it was but a sunburst jazz type thing. Looked stunning. weighed a ton. sounded... meh. the Geddie lee was much nicer.
 10. Thats nice Mr Dingus. But if I were looking to spend £1000 on a bass and had the choice between one where it didn't line up correctly and hadn't been painted correctly and one that had.... I would go for the squier! When a £300 chinese bass can do it... a budget range at 3 times the price should be able to do it too don't you think? Also pickups not lining up perfectly...I think when on a fender style pickup you have a object running between two magnets and inducing a current thats then amplified... then where over the magnets the object runs is kinda important. If you had a big delano style single pole piece less so... but standard jazz or P pickups.... again squier manage it.
 11.
I've already owned an M212, and I would love to go back and not sell it when I did I have yet to find anything as light as that cabinet, with that brilliant tweeter and excellent low end response. Thing is, I'd now have to pay £500 more than I paid for the last one, due to the price increases, etc. Why don't we have a UK distributor anymore?!
cos someone pissed someone else off or something. And all the gear ended up in guitarguitar - who knows why. Funky Dario of this site is the french distributer, can't see it costing that much more to ship from france. what cab you want to get? the M212 again? did someone on here not have one for sale not so long ago?
 12.
I currently have about 30 basses (including the ones that are in bits). By the time I've sold off the 4-string ones that don't have 5-string equivalents and traded those that do for their 5-string versions, I'l be down to just under half that number. And if I can elicit responses like that in my sale threads then I will have considered my work well done!
Personally I can't wait. Not sure I have money to buy anything but I'm fascinated by what you might have!
 13.
trade only guys for specific bass mentioned in OP... cheers for the interest...
by specific... a 5 string?
 14.
Yup it's all very interesting. The one that keeps staggering me is the Marcus Millers. They are over £1000 new now, partially due to VAT increase couple of years back, which adds cost from raw materials up wards. Exchange rate between sterling and Yen has had an impact, There are far fewer basses from Japan advertised on FEEBay now, because they have become prohibitively expensive. Meanwhile back at Marcus. Mr/Mrs/Ms Bloggs who bought there Marcus 8 years ago brand new at £400, now want £700/£900 for it because a new ones a grand. Then they wonder why their is little interest. Same can be said with Aerodynes, anybody paying £700 for them is frankly bonkers. You can have my White USA P for £650. Less than a Miller or Aerodyne? Ho hum!
and what I find odd is how it affects some models and not others. Fender stick up the prices and the secondhand prices on the USA models more or less stay the same, whereas secondhand mexican models shoot up from £200-300 to £400+ asking prices. Theres quite a nice looking MIM jazz for sale on here at the moment- and nice bass I would think it is- but a MIJ jazz is a fair bit cheaper! In other places people ask more for the japanese one than a secondhand USA..... mad! warwicks either are still dirt cheap, or at fairly pricy prices- always with the "would cost over £3500 new!!!"
 15. There have been stingrays for about 600.... i've seen them.
 16. DR Fatbeams... nice tone. I think ultimately you're not a jazz bass man.
 17.
Hello... fancy a Warwick NT6 handmade in trans black?
that's one of the two. It's a great looking bass, rumour 6 isn't the best sales person though.... a Warwick Thumb 6 string NT, bubinga and wenge and from an era where they were hand made.... would be better wouldn't it mate?
 18.
It's funny how simple things like these contours affect us though; for instance I genuinely wouldn't buy a Fender style bass with those edges and it is one of the reasons that I don't get on with Rics!
I think once you get beyond a reasonable quality and aesthetics our preference is possibly ALL about the little things. Like after the JV and streamer normal fenders feel sharp on the edge which I don't like. Also sold a few basses, and good basses, not because they were heavy but just because I had got used to the lighter weight basses I have.
 19.
The cut-away contours on your JV look very 'curved' but when I compare the Sados to the Buscanti and the bass you posted, the Sados are a lot closer to the JV.
ok.... the ones I played weren't particularly good representatives of all of them! It's odd that the JV's are so big, but when I used to have that John Entwhistle one the non slab but pre mid 60's bodies looked more curvy than the later 60's ones. Anyway...
 20. well more sharp compared to my JV Squier then... ...which has a bigger radius.
 21.
We actually started our first builds with an passive set up. Basslines STK or D'Marzio. We like to add a 6 rotary Varitone to the set up. As far as European orders, I do provide some discounting to help offset the final cost. I have a passive bass completed and can send you information if you wish. Link to the passive Newport photos. J http://s136.photobucket.com/albums/q174/ja...uscanti%207014/
now that I like the look of!
 22.
What do you mean by 'sharp body edge' - it might just be my pics but the body is cut away under the arm like a normal Jazz body. retain price is in the blog post - about £560 which is a steal. However I don't know if Jeff has found a UK importer yet so give him a shout for more info.
one that's a great price The sharp edge being the edge radius on the body - fenders tend to have a reasonably large one, sadowskys have the more 'modern' looking sharper on. This is a bass I once had with sharper edges - just prefer a little less - but thats just me and not a biggie!
