1.
Anything that has an odd looking exotic wood top, they look like coffee tables, horrid. LED's, really??, do people actually think these are cool??
yeah, I've never really got the whole LED thing. If anything it would really put me off a bass, and I can't think of many venues short of headlining to crowds more than 1000 a night where you're not going to look like an idiot with them on. The coffee table bass stuff.... I'm in two minds about. I know why manufacturers will use nice woods, and you can see people get excited about the visual of the woods used- but I think a lot of the time there is an utter missunderstanding about how to use the woods and body shapes to make something beautiful, rather than just a mess off wood. His visual eye is something I think Alan at ACG has got a er.. eye for and a few other makers have some visual design sense.... but some others.... just look a mess.... add a single cut to that and it can be horrid! My pet hate is basses that not only are made up of lots of woods, they are made up of so many that the term ply is the only real one you should use (yes I know technically it's not as the grain isn't crisscrossing)
Plain P-basses, I really don't like that "tons of lower mids and nothing else" kind of sound. Blah! However I don't mind some, especially those with more full range pups and other pups added. I'm also aware that a lot of my favourite music was recorded with them.
they work in the mix though. though agree about some being better than others. Another hate for me... lovely sounding basses that just don't work in a band. I mean, whats the point?
Fenders, simply for the lack of originality, in all the time P and J basses have existed the body design has never really changed much, and they never seem to try anything new. Probably why I like the Blacktop Jazz, there's a bit of creativity there, deviating from the norm and taking a risk.
err.... you know fender invented the original right?

 3. having been looking for wedding bands I would have thought (depending how good you are ) that your singer has majorly underpriced you there. For example, we've got a mates ceiligh band for my wedding and at mates rate thats about £500, and thats for a wedding within walking distance of where they live and we've got backline/drumkit/lights/sound tech allready provided for them.
 4. back from a weekend in scotland and weddings....
 5. thats 48 hours, thats 48 hours - so i'll bump so I'll bump so I'LL BUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMPPPP!
 6. barring them, how many strings are we talking here?
 7.
yeah be interesting to see how high it goes, 400 would be my guess, and thats overpriced IMO. Out of interest, would putting in origional pups and electrics (guess who has some! make a difference to the value?
ask Rick's fine '89 .... I guess he would say yes
 8. the plonker says it's worth 900-1000... with no pups or electrics.... having tried to sell one of these.... but a first edition, with all the parts.... I think that may be a bit high a guess!
 9. er you know they have tradmarked that lamp shade style? basschat will get nasty letters again cos of your thread!
 10. ok.... this might be a really stupid question... but isn't your amp small enough you could just take it with you and swap it for the other amp- or if you can't just use it as a preamp?
 11.
yeh i now i need a comp pedal, but i dnt want one with loads of knobs on it! was hoping id be able to find something with similar presets. what the dyna comp like on bass? andy
can't fault me for trying it's only got one that says "compression" on it! If I were looking for a compression pedal a the trace elliot SMX pedal would be high on the list...
 12. compression pedal? (or, cheekily my bass pod has a pretty decent compressor on it...... even if you just used it for that and DI. Though if you were using someone else's amp you could plug it in thier effect return and use it as a pre amp..... oohh look I have one for sale ) though I'm sure there are other pedals - part of it will be the "sound" of the amp too.
 13. well having to stick a price on it probably means less folk just sticking a bass up to see if anyone wants it without setting a price on it. It's a different experience having something up for "sale" than "I have this bass, anyone want it and if you're a nice fella we can work something out" type thing. Having said that I know why the rules are as they are
 14.
I was interested, but won't have £60 spare for a couple of weeks. I've now acquired a red POD XT for a paltry £20! It did need a repair though. Good luck with the sale Luke. At £60, I'd recommend a POD just for the compressor alone! Add in the amp sims and these boxes are fantastic!!
flip that's a good price! And thanks for the nice words, as clauster says its a decent bit of kit!
 15. ooooohhh someone get this! I could tell what it is just based on the first picture- nevermind seeing the serial. This possibly suggests I've spent too long reading about JV squiers. Buy it for the neck if nothing else!
 16. It's backwards! I had a CIJ and stuck an anodized plate on it. I like them, good for recording as it's easy to ground the thing Oh btw to anyone looking, you may have noticed i've stopped bumping this. I don't think it's going to go anywhere
 17. I've seen these played in videos, ive always wondered why with that many you wouldn't devise a system so the detuners are at the bridge.
 18.
I guess that means you'd like the cash for the POD asap?
well ideally, yes. why?
 19.
From the pofessionals: http://www.stewmac.c...campaign=ts0151
that's really useful. but.... does poly ever smell of peardrops?
 20.
For me it's a big thing. Despite having the opportunity to own Fender Precisions when I started playing in the 60's (and by now having enough value to retire on), I always hated their flatter profile. Feels like playing a plank. I now play a MIJ Westone Thunder III which I love. I just find the more curved radius more playable, and enjoy not feeling the angular edge of the fretboard. It's the main thing that puts me off getting a new bass. I'd say don't underestimate it!
I think you're confusing neck profile and fingerboard radius. As far as I know the early 50's and 60's P basses would have the 7.5 inch radius. The edge of the fretboard being rolled or not isn't going to make a difference
 21.
sh*t do i wait?
dunno... my body is a bit odd... it's reportedly a 1994 japanese squier - but the body cut on the lower bout is a bit off what you would expect (but i've seen that on others too) the rear pickup is possibly a bit far back for 60's spacing and forward for 70's and now Jon Letts tells me it may be nitro finish.... Which would be odd. So it's an oddity.
 22.
It was a 1987 Thumb. Lovely sound. Neck was too thin. I have also owned a Warwick LX4 and a NT Thumb 4 mid 90's ones. Sound was lacking in those two.
well... go custom. If it were me I would be speccing my dream ACG right now
 23.
I have had a 5 String thumb very briefly, Fantastic sound, one of my faves. However I didnt like the ergonomics or the neck. Maybe a streamer will be a little different. But at this moment I am thinking of going custom more and more to get something that really fits me.
streamer= very different to thumb - ergonomically utterly, sound wise lots, and neck depends on when it was built...
 24.
Pear drops=nitrocellulose. You can get cellulose thinners from halfords. You just wash it off. Nitromors should work too. A cabinet scraper and washing with thinners would be my way.
that's what I thought! I thought that the whole thing wasn't really behaving like it should- the pear drop smell, and the way it was coming off.... seems to be fairly thick nitro though, you sand it and you can see the layers and pale bands seperating them.... and and ..... who on earth makes nitro covered bodies these days? This is supposed to be a cheap body??
 25.
I guess I should now bring up the point is that I don't drive and don't intend to! So, lightweight is key, a limitation, but essential none the less.
I know you've said you don't like them, but wouldn't a 5 string (and early) streamer stage one do you?
