Having just moved to Leeds and walked into PMT I must say it was like no other music shop I've ever been in- it's odd.

I was going to say you've picked 4 very different amps there - and no Genz Benz on the list either. If you like the tone of the RH450 then it is, as the dark lord say, not bad. It does have it's own tone and compression pattern though- but sounds like it might suit your music type.

Good questions being asked there - you know I was looking at it earlier today and seeing 3 clear favourites and wondering if some kind of second transferable vote thing would be a good idea.... or just the fella whos building the bass to pick his fave out of the top 2/3 or something. As for listening to the whole song.... on quite a few I didn't - I don't personally have a problem of skipping the last 30s of a track I don't like much - sorry. I worked on the basis that I loved one of the entries I had heard (Silddx ironically) and listened to the rest to see if anyone came close. 2-3 other entries did for me- a lot of the rest I could tell after 16 bars that I prefered silddx's so forgive me if I skip the last 30 seconds! Not that the music was bad - just that there was some entries that were pretty genius

Who loves JV squiers? Seem to be a lot up for sale at the moment... and cos I've had didley squat interest in mine (mind you I've not been trying hard) I though - for the love of everything JV squier we would have a wee market placeness..... First up... Gareth's lovely looking 62ri Precision - 3 tone sunburst and a tort guard. JV3xxxx serial looks mega. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192909-jv-squire-precision-all-original/ Then... And... oh I thought there was a few more on the boards that had been up for sale recently, maybe not! -
spend hundreds on something that won't increase the price by as much as you'll have spent? doesn't make sense to me. Mind you I love well played looking basses

Dilemma (4x8 Ashdown Mini, Genz Benz 2x10, Other?)

I used to use the Ashdown mini cabs (both of them) as the house rig at church for years. Er... go for them if you want but... IMO they arn't very good, and not very light - but are compact. I used to turn up when I could be bothered with a dinky little techsoundsystem 2x12, which was about the width of your amp and only 12 inches high and it could blow both of the ashdown cabs away for clarity and distribution around the room. As a reference- I sold that cab for £150. -
- depends what kinda lacquer it is. If it's poly - hard. prob easier to change your playing technique!

So you have some basses.... and the dialema is get rid of the one that would be about £6-700 secondhand or the one that would be about £475-600 secondhand? Depending on condition the difference in price won't be as much as you think. so I think you're asking the wrong question- I don't think it's about value at all..... say you're not going to play that much at the moment, just little bits (and maybe a bit more later in life, who knows) which bass of the 3 makes you want to pick it up and play it the most?

my old band the guitarist used to use this big old heavy fender amp, right pain in the arse to move around - always mic'ed up of course cos that the best way to do it for the larger venues we used to play. One day we were helping a headline band we got on with with their load in, similar sound - we'ld heard them and they had a similar set of guitar sounds going on as us. Well I reach into the van and pull out their fender blues jr amp thing, hold it with one arm and the guitarist and me look at each other and he goes "bugger, when I was 15 I thought a big amp would be cooler"

there are folk who buy and sell their gear more than I do, so something becomes fashionable then folk will buy it - a few years back everyone wanted Lakland, then Sadowsky and so on... give it a couple of years and maybe they are looking for something different and put it up for sale. Thing is all it takes is one person to do it and there is a price point that people can work around so people are more likely to list. Thats what I think anyway. I mean at the moment, even with my half withdrawn ad there are abotu 6 or so JV squiers on offer. A while back there were none (mind you none have sold yet!)
