1.
Cloning would be cheaper, but I doubt it would be as good. The Overwater guys are second to none in their field, which is why we all keep on going back to them ;-)
no not cloning the bass- cloning the preamp, which you would be able to match easily EDIT: as a preamp out of production I see no problems in doing this. I wouldn't suggest it on something you can buy still.
 2. you know for years I wondered what was above that Scotmid
 3.
Thanks for your detailed reply. The info will definitely come in handy. I was actually discussing the issue of the electronics with Martin Lee when I was at Overwater last month, and he was explaining the fact that the parts for the older models are no longer available. However, he did say something to the effect that they could probably be custom made if necessary -- at least, that's the way I understood it. I don't think anyone has ever asked for that specifically, though. Funnily enough, I've been talking to tayste_2000 today, as Laurence Blackadder suggested I contact him via Facebook. He also gave me some useful info and offered to let me try his bass next time I'm over visiting my parents in Crewe, so I'll definitely take him up on that. I remember your fretless being on eBay and actually contacted Chris for some info on it, but I decided against it in the end. If I saw one now, though, I'd snap it up straight away. Have you seen the Original Series basses Overwater built recently? They look fantastic. Cheers, Kees
prob be cheaper to clone it yourself if you asked big red x for photos....
 4. aren't these TRB 6P 1st edition the ones that an awful lot of folk seem to want?
 5.
I don't lump all players in this category, as the majority are good citizens. I have experienced, of late, that there is a rising lot that are starting this trend. There is a difference in endorsement levels, but the statement that we in the industry look the other way for the big guys is actually the opposite. Yes, I did a little rant here, but when I was active as a player in the 70's thru the 90's most of us were very respectful of our endorsers, and endorsements were very hard to come by. This recent crew has just been more blatant then I've ever seen. If your deal is exclusive, and I give you several basses and spend oodles of time working on them to get them to your liking, and I also provide you with tour support, you better be using my stuff. Ok, I'll chime out now. Not a problem. Just a warning, especially if you are seeking out endorsements. And there really is an understanding among all the makers. tom
Maybe you're being too generous Tom? It is interesting though, and one wonders where the next step is for endorsements- my guess will be that the manufacturers will start to ask for content as well- my guess Warwick are doing that with Andy Irvine - not just here's a bass for (more or less free, even if it's at cost price lets not kid ourselves the amount of time it takes to build something custom) you to play live and in videos and appear in press - but heres a bass and come generate content for and owned by us. Example if company X endorsed me maybe I get two basses for the price of one or something - and am expected to play them live and in vids and etc - and also I work my butt off for a wee while making content, videos, writing whatever for the brand.
 6.
Well I admit that its not everyones cup of tea, but I wish people would make their mind up before contacting me! I know a deal is not done until its done, but its incredibly frustrating the amount of people who said they would take it, only to turn around a couple of days later, sometimes after i had paid for a courier to say they no longer want it. Lots of people loved the finish when I showed it to them, and said they would love to own it, but those same people are now refusing good trade offers for it. Its amazing how two-faced people have been with me in Pms. Ah well. I have seen something I like so had to reduce the basses price again. And to people who think they would look silly with the finish, it makes you look fun, not silly!
you've been messed around more than most.... but it's a bright green bass. a bright green bass. so a bit harder to sell, as you have found. I would probably say I would love to own it, cos it does look like something brill. But like many I am sure, don't have space for a a bright green bass as my main bass.
 7. I have the same cab but in 4 ohm version- it's awesome!
 8.
I've got a Vince Cable and it's getting on a bit....
Is that the one currently being tied down by the posh expensive wires?
 9.
60/40 lead solder is still available to the hobbyist, just not from Maplins, because Maplins is a terrible shop that recommends you go to bigger fuses if the ones you bought before keep blowing.
could have stopped at "shop"
 10.
Every time I see the same snake oil stuff about military point to point etc. I'm going to call it out, eventually, people will stop believing it. Point to Point is a terrible way to make amplifiers. Carbon comps are not long lasting components. Military applications use PCB, and military grade stuff uses lead solder you aren't allowed to use here, not actually sure if you can sell it here.
I ran out of solder and ran to the local old old electronics shop, been there years (now closed ) asked for some solder and got some lead stuff.... best stuff ever - quite a step up from maplins basic stuff! anyway, I found this thread and that was my interesting comment on it!
 11. two things to say wooks: 1: congratualtions, good luck 2: My friend has one of these- they really are very very good, good luck
 12. can't wait to get my warwick fixed up. what's the tone? gooooooood is what it is
 13. after all you've gone through with trying to sell this if I won the lottery that I don't enter I would take this off you. And looks way nicer with normal strings!
 14. er... I kinda agree with the seller here. You were happy when you bought it. Did the active mode work then? - I can see why he might be pissed off that you just get back to him out the blue and say it's not working. Bass preamps are quite simple circuits for the most part- have you tried fixing it yourself?
 15. you use the gain knob to set the input to the point where it's not clipping. Even if this is at 9 o clock that's fine. - then use the volume to set how loud it is.
 16.
Graphite neck, alder body. It's incredible. I was just playing it this evening and nearly put this topic to bed. However, I really want a vintage looking jazz that will give me a classic 70'a sound but with the ability to be more modern. Called Status about a new T Bass and waiting on a call back. Love the hassle free side of graphite. Another thing, when you get to Rob Green and Roger Sadowsky's level of craftsmanship, there can't be much of a difference in build quality and innovation, can there? There is a big difference in price though. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. G
Well Rob Green designs and builds basses of his own design and one of the few that pioneered the use of graphite in bass construction using proprietary pickups and preamps. Roger bolts together copies of fenders.
 17.
Ok like most people I've suffered my fair share of GAS (mainly through immaturity) over the last 15 years I've been playing. I've owned custom this and that, just about every major brand out there, tried every combination of woods electronics pickups bla bla bla. And what do I settle on? A cracking USA Fender precision. I've never ever been settled on a bass as long as this one. Original and best now IMHO! Anyone else with similar experience?
having just looked at your youtube vids there `i can see what you mean, the other bass on there sounds great- but in the mix and generally the P sounds great. With your playing style it gives it a bit of edge. Good move
 18. two things.... http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/anigre/ used as strips in boat building as far as I can see and.... WOW, that is stunning. Like wow- one of the top two nicest basses to come up for sale on here ever in my book (the other one beoing the JV p bass I bought)
 19. Go on, guess then http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/rare-bass-washburn-status-series-1000-fretless-and-fine-tuning-no-tuning-head/106942959
 20.
I can't keep the secret any longer............... It's going to be a bass!
getoutofhere!
 21.
This. I think these were anywhere up to £2,000 new. You paid a lot less than that, which I think you can be happy about in "as new" condition, no? Some times, when chasing the rabbit down this particular hole, Wonderland loses some of it's glamour. The market, on here, for second-hand Warwicks is flat - so you'll see some depressed prices out there. That's only an issue for you if you intended to sell, and only on this forum. But, if you bought the bass to play well; to play well in your hands... well, it's irrelevant
I think also it's very easy to fall into the trap of expensive bass good, cheap bass bad. And the fact that secondhand prices can go very low on these doesn't mean that it's bad at all. My warwick was cheap, and so many times I've sat and thought that x y or z bass must be better cos it costs more, or is more desirable- which is crap cos a good bass is a good bass. You have a good bass
 22. You got an as new streamer, nicely set up for a lot less than a new one. Any more questions than that and you'll just get annoyed
 23.
It would scare you witless to look at the cost of a new one then try to find a 'good' used price. Where most new items depreciate by 20-30% when you walk out of the shop (have delivered via an e-purchase), alas Warwick basses depreciate by a minimum of 50% and that isn't meant to do Warwick down, it is just a fact... and an unnecessary one at that! The info above is about on the money; I've sat watching ebay sales of NT Thumb basses end in the £600-£900 bracket with a few managing the £900-£1200 but rarely do they exceed those 'sale' prices (many are advertised for more but rarely sell).
they were very low (you know how much my one cost me ) then recovered a bit and then as everything else slows down seem to be getting cheaper. If i find a decent job after this masters is out the way and then save up enough I may go looking. I think an early one (one piece bridge or JD if lucky in my dreams....) will be a bit more though
 24.
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I can't believe how much these Warwick basses are new.
I'm sure WarwickOfficial will be along in a wee bit to tell us why! My top bass I want to own if I ever get another is a thumb.
 25. mind you your Marleaux looks good too! What's the 'one' thats replacing it?
