The cut-away contours on your JV look very 'curved' but when I compare the Sados to the Buscanti and the bass you posted, the Sados are a lot closer to the JV.
ok.... the ones I played weren't particularly good representatives of all of them! It's odd that the JV's are so big, but when I used to have that John Entwhistle one the non slab but pre mid 60's bodies looked more curvy than the later 60's ones. Anyway...

well more sharp compared to my JV Squier then... ...which has a bigger radius.
We actually started our first builds with an passive set up. Basslines STK or D'Marzio. We like to add a 6 rotary Varitone to the set up. As far as European orders, I do provide some discounting to help offset the final cost. I have a passive bass completed and can send you information if you wish. Link to the passive Newport photos.
What do you mean by 'sharp body edge' - it might just be my pics but the body is cut away under the arm like a normal Jazz body. retain price is in the blog post - about £560 which is a steal. However I don't know if Jeff has found a UK importer yet so give him a shout for more info.
one that's a great price The sharp edge being the edge radius on the body - fenders tend to have a reasonably large one, sadowskys have the more 'modern' looking sharper on. This is a bass I once had with sharper edges - just prefer a little less - but thats just me and not a biggie!
Umm, been humming and hah-ing about this one the last twice it's been up, assuming it's the same one. I should have got it off Andy the first time I saw it up for sale, Manchester was a lot closer . Beautiful bass. Good luck.
not the same one. Andy's one had the other cover and he'ld added the middle screw to the pick guard. -
So......mid-priced stuff then?! Si
top end as in Wal, Sadowsky USA, Fodera, Fender CS....
True to an extent, but I'm still waiting to see a sub-£1000 RIC in playable condition anywhere. There are some terrific basses out there for very little money these days
seen quite a few of them about in the 600-800 range. top end of my point but still.

No really.... the secondhand prices on here/ebay are mad at the moment- nothings moving fast (TIM?) but new stuff price is going up... and it's having some odd effects... the bottom isn't going down... commonly a Squier vintage modified or the classic whatsit seems to go for about £150... but I've seen mexican jazzes go for that much on ebay, and then everything else is getting compressed down to certain price points... so my initial claim... if you exclude the top end, and custom made stuff - it seems if you name a bass and go hunting for it you can find one in the 500-600 price range. then theres a gap and other stuff floating around £1000 really interesting how things move towards certain prices points, second hand prices are fascinating at the moment

not fan of ashtray or sharp body edge, but other than that this looks nice. I wonder how much it would be in the UK? Not too fussed about the preamp either, but meh

whats a double bass? I found this forum by accident....

One day you will be listening to a funk song and want to play it, some sounds can only come from a Jazz. I wish I had one- like you I don't know if I would ever play it mind! on the other hand, I think you manned up the day you bought the P bass!
Thomastik Infeld Alloys work for me on Warwicks (oddly they don't quite sound as good on my Sterling).
flip you've gone up in the world since I first asked what strings you used! I think it was a 3 sets for £10 lot or something

and the high will be hissy. No idea why, but if you boost on garageband at that point it will do the same...
-
I said it in a PM to ead... but look at the Eq points. Same as a 2 band points as warwick/MEC - so lots of mids in both the highs and lows boosts. Not nesserally a bad thing depending on the bass... but I personally would want to hear that EQ in a fender type bass first.... get garageband open and use the graphic eq to boost high and low in those points and you'll hear what it sounds like

It sure looks like a nice bit of kit

Advice needed on Concentric stack knobs!
LukeFRC replied to davebass66's topic in Repairs and Technical
go into a music shop and try one of the squier jaguar basses with the stack knobs for a wee trial. (common enough that there is likely to be one in your local shop) I loved the idea of stack knobs till I tried it in practice. Not a clue on the tone differences but it annoyed me enough in a 10 min trial in a shop I went right off them! -
some jazz players don't even play fenders. I know shocking eh?
Since the day I bought my first bass I have sold a grand total of 4 basses. I'm lucky in that I don't have to answer to anyone else regarding what I do I do with my money or storage space. However if I did and I still had raging GAS I'd have a 3 bass policy. One as my main bass, one as my back-up and one as my trading bass - in that order of how much I liked them. A new bass would have to be better than my back up bass to be kept. The 4 basses that I have sold al seemed like good ideas at the time I bought them, but none were ultimately worth keeping and I don't miss any of them. I am however gearing up for a clear out of most of my 4-string basses. I might miss a couple of these and those that also exist in 5-string versions will be replaced if possible, but I see little point in feeling nostalgic for an instrument I don't play any more.
so I can put it in context.... how many do you have? I can imagine your sale threads for the four strings, well more the comments "I've never heard of one of them", "it's made of what? I didn't know instruments were made of that" and the "oh do you have anything more normal (i.e. fender) looking" btw I like your 3 bass rule. I had something similar but just couldn't justify the 3rd at the time. and it would have to be damn good to upset one of the other two, so went down to 2. A 3rd sometime would be fun

never had one. Maybe I should try?

I don't even really gel with Warwicks, but this one sounds incredible!
I've got the one Shockwave was selling a few weeks back. I don't have any new photos but there are quite a few on the sale thread: http://basschat.co.u...-vintage-white/ I need to get a couple of dings in the headstock sorted otherwise it's in pretty amazing condition considering how old it is.
ahhh cool! How is it? -
True! In fact most German products are normally very well engineered and finished.
so with my bass and rig you would be happy! (except the fact my bass has evidence of 21 years of playing on it!)
