But continuing the analogy, when we are speaking about the musical response of pots you might as well be saying to your tyre guy "don't get the air for your tyres here, it's free. The garage round the corner charges 20p air... it's bound to be better".
Not wanting to knock the stuff KiOgon does.... given how soldering iron resistant a lot of folk are on here... I can believe a well made set of components could be better than an idiot made set..... I am more intreaged by all the "CTS pots changed my tone" thing... would be fascinating to actually test... I guess there could be intolerances to the pot track? or something inducing additional capacitance?
 2.
Sorry but I have to disagree for the very reasons that you think that they are great! I agree with all of the statements that a Wal can sound great BUT having owned one many years ago (and having one in the house now on loan), I have to say that they infuriate me with their ability to allow 'me' to screw the tone up! I found that when I owned mine that if I gave it just a bit of a tweak mid song/gig it had the potential to start to sound pants and I'd then spend the rest of the gig trying to get back what I wanted... not my idea of fun. Not saying that they aren't great basses, I have liked the neck of everyone that I have tried but I find them generally a bit too heavy and those tone circuits are just not for me.
so not like P basses then?
 3. is there a mute button?

 5.
I had a sniper bid ready to go on this item, and he obviously panicked and pulled it just before the end. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170889897925#ht_2030wt_922 Now relisted with a reserve. Might bid, might just tell him to poke it Grrrrrrrrrrrrr I hate that!!!
its been on sale on here for a while. Er why not pm the seller on here and make an offer that way. He's a good guy. I don't really think he's a b@stard for pulling a sale. Esp given the nature of the item.
 6. much cheaper one on gumtree
 7. and how much money have you spent on basses since you started out before you realised that "your" sound was a P bass?
 8.
You mean pinned? If so, then can I suggest we entitle the thread "Mahogany". If that's a touch obscure, then perhaps "Zero fret". Or we could just have a poll to decide the title, there are bound to be so many others with favourite phrases mined from his listings.
seriously I don't think it would need to be pinned to be near the top
 9. do you think we should just have one thread for this fella?
 10. I read that on talk bass the other day
 11.
Gotta be worth more than that, Maya yes but not El Maya surely? You cant get these anymore! Still plays better than fender precision
You can't get small pox anymore either. I'm just going by the prices I've seen over the last few years. Bassassin isn't around at the moment but theres one or two more folk with a bit more knowledge. Maya/el maya you need to find someone who knows enough about japcrap to know the difference between the Rokkoman brands- but not someone who knows enough that they will just sit on ebay picking up japcrap bargins at around the £100 mark.... now given a USA fender is going down to about £500 secondhand... and you can buy a second hand JV squier for £450 (not collectors, but with up grade pickups and new fretless ebony board) and the last Squier SQ P bass went for £350 ish... all of which to the general player as a brand are more desirable.... I don't quite know how much you would be expecting to get for this? I have picked up similar quality japcrap, and of far more desirable brands for under £100
 12. notice the top cutaway on the guitar too? my guess.... until big red x comes and tells us.... first act
 13.
Same- I spent ages trying to get one! I ended up having to offer Alan money, and pay probably over the odds for this one. I since bought the DB750, and just prefer the sound and simplicity, although it weighs a hell of a lot more!! I can't believe this has been for sale for so long though... It's now sold however, and is off to France
glad it's gone. It's one of the few things you expect to fly off the forum the moment it goes up for sale... and you had it at a keen price too. I guess part of it shows how slow the market is at the moment!
 14. search in the "japcrap" thread- a couple of el maya's popped up in there. My guess £50-200 range
 15.
Looking into getting one of these bad boys for my Jazz bass. What's the best set of pickups to pair with one? I currently have a set of WIzard 64's and feel I might need something a little more modern sounding to match the capabilities of the J-Retro. Anyone have any recommendations? I've heard good things about the Delanos (JC Series) although am open to all suggestions. Thanks
also worth considering.... ead (the guy above) has an ACG pre if that floats your boat.

 17.
Lovely mate but I have a wedding to pay for.
awww when... same reason I'm going to ignore it, I'm getting married in april. oh BTW... idea for your wedding get up... more you than a suit http://www.milanoo.com/Black-And-White-Unisex-Lycra-Zentai-Suit-p16071.html?searchKeyword=black%20white%20check%20suit
 18.
I'm going through tomorrow.

I live near Pompey so not far away if that helps.

Crowthorne...about fifteen minutes through the woods. P
actually decided- wouldn't be for me right now (though one of the best basses I've tried.... heres a link.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G-L-L1000-bass-guitar-/251119124726?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a77ddc0f6#ht_500wt_1219 one for you wayne?
 19. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Investigating.... the annoying mid frequency (about 1.06k) ... my pickups are wired straight to jack at the moment.... so I think what I was hearing was the resonant peak... change cables (and therefore both resistance and capacitance) and it goes away. so need to pay attention to pickup loading!
 20.
Japanese ones are nice
+1
 21.
Man, no denying that Creative Scotland put in to music funding but I've always just seen a hell of a lot of art being funded by Creative Scotland - or the Arts Council, as it was.
Art can meet the criteria things are recognised for better than music can. Without CS most of the art wouldn't happen - but the music still would, it quite hard to think of much music that is both culturally relevant and unable to find most of it's funding from elsewhere- the music business is that a business. I think where it would be worthy is outwith the central belt- helping get bands up north on tour, or helping smaller non commercial (i.e. prob trad) groups tour.
 22. might be worth you sticking L1000 into ebay search term.... If you are near and fancy looking after a bass for me, I'm tempted but can't get there
 23.
Enlighten me, dear boy.
the red nash jazz with the chunkier neck than normal, you had it up for sale for a while on here
 24.
13th Note is indeed a cool bar. I cut my teeth in there in a new band a few years ago. That gig went down extremely well. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that you weren't a fan of GOMA. I quite like that place. And yes, if only us musos could get the same arts funding that artists do, but good on them.
they do.... scottish arts council paid for the production of withered hands last album (creative scotland as it is now) and they've funded a few other music things too
 25. I think it's just the.... you know how a bass has a voice.... theres a dominant tone in the mids... well, I kinda want to control that- maybe it's not possible and it's the actual sound of my bass. It's not my rig, the P bass's dominate tone (what's the correct term to describe it) is a bit lower, as an example a T40 is lower again, maybe it's just the tone of the bass and unchangeable.
