1. they are parrael in that diagram me. if you follow that you will be OK. TBH I wouldn't see any benefit in switching the pups from 18 to 9 volt.

 4.
I think that there has been a downturn in modding because there is so much variety now, you can probably find the exact bass you want without having to buy something like it then mod it to suit. I don't mod basses much these days because I think they're just fine the way they are. The only modded one I own now is my G&L Tribute L-2000, and that's a reversible, do no harm mod as it's just a replaced switch and a wiring change. Furthermore, it was worth it because it unlocked a setting not normally available which I happen to think is the nicest sounding one (single inner coils in parallel). There is an element of preserving future value, I won't deny it. But have you seen some of the abortions of stripped and ronsealed P basses from back in the day? Seemed like a good idea at the time? D'oh! Perhaps you have seen how my Gibson Victory Artist arrived - horrible blue refin, silver hammerite on the pickguard, push button mounted in the battery cover which cuts off the battery (which you can't help pressing when playing), and to cap it all off - a "roasted" neck, but done with a blowtorch instead of an oven. So I "unmodded" it. Now it's probably worthless, but to me it's priceless.
is the worth from the fact you did the work on it? and maybe the other fella derived worth from it's modding.
 5. i think, but the way the attack sounds also affects how we perceive sustain.
 6.
Hi there this guitar looks like a beauty, i wanted to ask what the sounds are like on it? like does it have a rich warm tone or twangy, or both even?
I have a similar age/lower end yamaha SG - and the thing is amazing. My one is rich and warm, and with the coil tap I added it has a single coil type twang too. With a nice body to it if you know what I mean?
 7. something I realised today. Sat in uni library at lunch flicking through the NME for the first time in years.... and lots of guitars and basses there. But unlike years back where folk would have some old strat that they modded themselves... it all seemed to be stock guitars. I wonder if we've just become more used to going out and buying another bass or a different bass than just modding/fixing/refreting the one we have?
 8. I thought your "tiny issue" was the other complaint you had.
 9.
Way Huge Red Llama. I guess it's technically not considered a fuzz but I love it for high gain stuff I would personally describe as fuzz. Mine is a clone so I hope it's the same as the pedal i'm recommending!
also a simple build isn't it? that's the one with one ic chip?
 10.
Yes, I was getting this last night between 12 and 1 am.
+1 basschat survives attack! Woo
 11. I have two 'etc's They are good for metal too
 12. build your own. make clones of 10 for the price of buying 1..... fuzzes tend to be easy builds
 13.
I don't really care about RI, but I'm somewhat alergic on that anodized stuff, so that's why I can't stand it... :-)
it's great for recording though, as long as some part of you is touching either string or guard you are grounded
 14. I saw one of them for sale a few years back, it was pretty cheap, like under £1000 I think
 15.
Fire away without fear edit: but I must say, just in case, that I am already spoken for
it was for big red X
 16.
I can vouch for David, although he doesn't have any taste in pickguard selection... ;-) :-D
? what else you going to stick on a '58 reissue?
 17.
Ohhh... Rick, would you take a ten-year-old boy and a forty eight-year-old woman with quite reasonable boobs as payment?
both of them have reasonable boobs?
 18.
It's a bit raped looking for me. Apparently it's been in a lab under experimental conditions. You could pick up a pretty decent one for not a whole lot more.

raped awesome yeah true
possible to find/use a different adjective please?
 19.
Maybe so, but what if the singers on those "classic" tunes had preferred keys of E flat or D? No low root notes to use then... consequently a possibly rather thin low end...
e flat you would just move the whole tuning a semi tone. If they insisted on D well.... where do you think the "rock" trend for tight trousers came from?
 20.
You didn't find the mid sweep useful? Not many amps offer something like it. My gripe with the J-Retro is that it colours the sound even when you set it "flat". Flat does not really exist with that preamp (but it does with others), and I really like a passive Jazz sound. But even then, I love the oomph and versatility it gives me. But I could use just the mid sweep module and be happy, to be perfectly honest. I use that a lot.
Eden, SWR, Thunderfunk do, on multiple bands. Isn't the Yamaha East Eq modual essentially a mid sweep too? The mixing desk I use has two, fully sweepable with varying Q too
I just think that sometimes people don't fully think through the reasons for fitting (or not) a pre amp in their bass. I would hazard that unless the controls on your amp are very subtle or the EQ points aren't sympathetic to the bass (in which case you've either got the wrong amp or the wrong bass for you) that the amp should be able to do everything that built in pre amp can and then some. It's far easier to build an effective and musical sounding EQ when you're not constrained with having to fit it into a typical bass guitar and power for a decent length of time off a PP3 battery.
+1 but I do think you often overestimate people's ability to make gear sound good. I think sometimes you hear the idea of the sound realised but wonder how musically that has been achieved. It's fairly easy to suck the life out of bass tone with Eq. I have another question for you but it's pretty OT so will PM you.
 21. google is my friend. typing in "warwick" into google image search also gives you a plotted history of Warwick hunt's profile pictures
 22.
Seems a bit odd, my '87 JD Thumb has EMGs in (which were definitely there from new).
that's what I thought, and then did some research and found out you did get them with the active duncans the ones with the wee rockers on them
