1. You are spending between £1000 and 2000 on a lefty P bass? You thought of getting one custom made for you?
 2.
All of the active basses I've tried sounded 'smoother' in the midrange, with a big bottom and and extremely glassy highs. Not bad sounds by any means, but didn't seem to have as much character to me. I found I was always turning the treble down, but leaving the mids where they were as they didn't sound 'right' boosted. All this is IME of course!
try some more
 3.
Sorry this is off topic, but man that Jazz is sexalicious.
+1. I guess that's the bitsa?
 4. well if you don't have an allen key to change the truss rod, or you've never heard of a shim, it makes total sense
 5.
you can't go wrong with emg's. i haven't heard anybody say that they were ever substandard.
no good well made pickups. You'll find plenty that won't like the tone
 6.
So your passive basses work with knackered jack sockets then? I will get my coat..........
actually... active basses normally have switching jack sockets. often enclosed Them old fashioned passive basses often have cheaper open jack sockets - so yes cos you can pinch them together and mend them easily in an emergency .
 7.
It's the "Riverhead" thats the quality jap one Luke. From Headway, Bacchus etc.
epic fail
 8. the 80's japanese things, they were supposed to be good weren't they?
 9.
I live in south east London, near Greenwich. You can come have a look if you want, I'm only selling it because I don't play anymore. I only played casually with my mates, and stopped playing when I went to uni.
Louis.... lets all start again Imagine Basschat is a pub. we're all mates, and to be honest if you wanna pull up a chair and hang out, more the merrier and you are welcome. Sometimes we sell stuff and buy stuff. The barman lets us do this and we avoid the fees that ebay charge. The barman has rules, and generally we look out for one another. If I offer something for sale, I give my terms and generally either the first person to say yes (or the first person to say yes and get the money) gets it. It's honourable. If I underprice something normally people will tell me so I don't loose loads, and if I overprice something it won't sell. We don't really do auctions and as we don't have ebay to look out for us when it goes wrong, we do it as gentlemen, with honour and respect. We don't rip each other off, If I buy something for a pittance cos the fella just needs the money that week, if I sell it on I'll pass it on at the same price, if I sell something and it's wrong, I'll go to all lengths to sort the thing, I'll be clear and organised with my dealing with people, and personally I refuse to take the money until the thing is bagged up and ready to go. it works well. there are a few odd folk on here, and the odd bass floating around you wouldn't touch with a bargepole cos it's got issues, but pretty much it's brilliant. Hopefully you see how your posts possibly disrupted this atmosphere? My suggestion.... pull the ebay advert. Say sorry on here, start a new thead. £450 is still a good price, specify postage or not, or anything, do you want trades? if you don't play bass what about guitar, folk on here have them too. be open be transparent. and keep calm. lets all start again
 10.
That one was totally killed by the pointing out that Fender used a sealer under the nitro coat. Plus the body breathing would be a total fail of warping. Important bit would be swapping a single piece of wood to a multiple density laminate, which is a fairly significant structural thing.
I went into a guitar shop and tried out a fender jazz bass. Maple neck rosewood board. I also tried one of the overwater/tanglewood basses that had a 3 piece maple neck and rosewood board. How much difference did that make you think? I mean apart from the fact one was a JJ and the other a PJ.....
 11.
When oh when, will the mods restrict the selling forum to established bcers?
i dunno theres some established bcers i probably wouldn't buy off too!
 12.
How would you know the music you listen to was done on a four rather than a five? It does have all the same notes plus some extra ones. Flea openly states that he uses 5 ers in the studio but I can't recall seeing him play one live for example.
good point.
 13. I know how the story ends..... ....Ozzy got his one thousand brown M&Ms and played a cracking show....
 14.
Of course if you buy a Wal with the money that I give you for a Squier or Streamer then I could have another different bass in the house.
hmmm...
 15. btw not much clue on prices on effects so i'll take offers
 16.
When you posted this, the bass was already in my house while I was playing with the Richt Hoat Chillis at Whistle Binkies
hmm next time you should tell me where your house is... and when you'll be out!
 17. Thinking about the music I listen too.... I kinda always want to buy a 4 string jazz, as that's what's on the funk records I listen too. But not much I listen too uses 5's. I like the idea of a 5 string though, or even 6 if it's a TRB
 18.
A bit flat is how I would describe it too, right now. Maybe it *is* flat sounding. I plugged in my Squier VM Jazz and it was much more alive... but then the strings are much more alive too. I'm not a big fan of bound fingerboards, but this one feels ok. No sharp edges here. It seems like a lot of bass for the cash, even if it ends up needing a new pickup or two, especially since I already have a good MM type in my parts drawer.
Yeah, I don't know how I felt about it, it was very underwealming the one I played. Just a bit colourless, not got the energy and spring a good jazz bass has. The price you got it for though it's worth experimenting with esp if you already have the pup.
 19.
Well the Wal would make three basses and you only need two (says the man with... 'lots of basses' ), so I'll take one of the others off your hands (that'll be 'lots +1' then ).
don't tempt me!
 20. Warwickhunt, i've noticed this thread since it was posted- but for the life of me I never expected you to have two Fender MM jazzes! and in that photo... is that a rick behind the sofa too?
 21. ahhh, glad someone on here got it. I played the 5 string they had in scayles a while back when I was jazz bass shopping- the way I was looking at it was this was the almost top of the line made by the same folk that make lakland skyline- at not so much money. The whole humbucker/single coil thing intreaged me too. The one I played was ok. I came away thinking that with a bit of a set up, the neck edges rolled a bit it would play better. I also was trying it through one of those Fender TV amps, which have a certain amount of colour to them.... and it still sounded flat. I thought of getting it and sticking new pups and pre in it... but in the end never got one. The one you picked up was tempting me for a bit mind!
