1.
I've got a Vince Cable and it's getting on a bit....
Is that the one currently being tied down by the posh expensive wires?
 2.
60/40 lead solder is still available to the hobbyist, just not from Maplins, because Maplins is a terrible shop that recommends you go to bigger fuses if the ones you bought before keep blowing.
could have stopped at "shop"
 3.
Every time I see the same snake oil stuff about military point to point etc. I'm going to call it out, eventually, people will stop believing it. Point to Point is a terrible way to make amplifiers. Carbon comps are not long lasting components. Military applications use PCB, and military grade stuff uses lead solder you aren't allowed to use here, not actually sure if you can sell it here.
I ran out of solder and ran to the local old old electronics shop, been there years (now closed ) asked for some solder and got some lead stuff.... best stuff ever - quite a step up from maplins basic stuff! anyway, I found this thread and that was my interesting comment on it!
 4. two things to say wooks: 1: congratualtions, good luck 2: My friend has one of these- they really are very very good, good luck
 5. can't wait to get my warwick fixed up. what's the tone? gooooooood is what it is
 6. after all you've gone through with trying to sell this if I won the lottery that I don't enter I would take this off you. And looks way nicer with normal strings!
 7. er... I kinda agree with the seller here. You were happy when you bought it. Did the active mode work then? - I can see why he might be pissed off that you just get back to him out the blue and say it's not working. Bass preamps are quite simple circuits for the most part- have you tried fixing it yourself?
 8. you use the gain knob to set the input to the point where it's not clipping. Even if this is at 9 o clock that's fine. - then use the volume to set how loud it is.
 9.
Graphite neck, alder body. It's incredible. I was just playing it this evening and nearly put this topic to bed. However, I really want a vintage looking jazz that will give me a classic 70'a sound but with the ability to be more modern. Called Status about a new T Bass and waiting on a call back. Love the hassle free side of graphite. Another thing, when you get to Rob Green and Roger Sadowsky's level of craftsmanship, there can't be much of a difference in build quality and innovation, can there? There is a big difference in price though. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. G
Well Rob Green designs and builds basses of his own design and one of the few that pioneered the use of graphite in bass construction using proprietary pickups and preamps. Roger bolts together copies of fenders.
 10.
Ok like most people I've suffered my fair share of GAS (mainly through immaturity) over the last 15 years I've been playing. I've owned custom this and that, just about every major brand out there, tried every combination of woods electronics pickups bla bla bla. And what do I settle on? A cracking USA Fender precision. I've never ever been settled on a bass as long as this one. Original and best now IMHO! Anyone else with similar experience?
having just looked at your youtube vids there `i can see what you mean, the other bass on there sounds great- but in the mix and generally the P sounds great. With your playing style it gives it a bit of edge. Good move
 11. two things.... http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/anigre/ used as strips in boat building as far as I can see and.... WOW, that is stunning. Like wow- one of the top two nicest basses to come up for sale on here ever in my book (the other one beoing the JV p bass I bought)
 12. Go on, guess then http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/rare-bass-washburn-status-series-1000-fretless-and-fine-tuning-no-tuning-head/106942959
 13.
I can't keep the secret any longer............... It's going to be a bass!
getoutofhere!
 14.
This. I think these were anywhere up to £2,000 new. You paid a lot less than that, which I think you can be happy about in "as new" condition, no? Some times, when chasing the rabbit down this particular hole, Wonderland loses some of it's glamour. The market, on here, for second-hand Warwicks is flat - so you'll see some depressed prices out there. That's only an issue for you if you intended to sell, and only on this forum. But, if you bought the bass to play well; to play well in your hands... well, it's irrelevant
I think also it's very easy to fall into the trap of expensive bass good, cheap bass bad. And the fact that secondhand prices can go very low on these doesn't mean that it's bad at all. My warwick was cheap, and so many times I've sat and thought that x y or z bass must be better cos it costs more, or is more desirable- which is crap cos a good bass is a good bass. You have a good bass
 15. You got an as new streamer, nicely set up for a lot less than a new one. Any more questions than that and you'll just get annoyed
 16.
It would scare you witless to look at the cost of a new one then try to find a 'good' used price. Where most new items depreciate by 20-30% when you walk out of the shop (have delivered via an e-purchase), alas Warwick basses depreciate by a minimum of 50% and that isn't meant to do Warwick down, it is just a fact... and an unnecessary one at that! The info above is about on the money; I've sat watching ebay sales of NT Thumb basses end in the £600-£900 bracket with a few managing the £900-£1200 but rarely do they exceed those 'sale' prices (many are advertised for more but rarely sell).
they were very low (you know how much my one cost me ) then recovered a bit and then as everything else slows down seem to be getting cheaper. If i find a decent job after this masters is out the way and then save up enough I may go looking. I think an early one (one piece bridge or JD if lucky in my dreams....) will be a bit more though
 17.
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I can't believe how much these Warwick basses are new.
I'm sure WarwickOfficial will be along in a wee bit to tell us why! My top bass I want to own if I ever get another is a thumb.
 18. mind you your Marleaux looks good too! What's the 'one' thats replacing it?
 19.
Calling chris2112!
my first thought too! Looks a lovely bass. I've only tried one alembic, in a shop and it was so so so nice to play
 20.
Or maybe it was you who was talking rubbish, LukeFRC?
ach but broad neck as an option is only 10 years or so old. So....
 21.
I bought/sold a '98 thru neck for a notional £800 a few years ago - sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Nice bass, and I really wanted to keep it, but it wasn't the one for me.
the OP's mates bass is earlier. Makes a bit of a difference....
 22. search past sales on here, and on warwick.de - Theres been one on gumtree/warwick.de and other places not selling at £1200. So nice pictures and good chat, (and a lighter weight) and about that maybe. I'ld have it if I had the money
 23. A lot of the music made in the world gets produced by guys who write and programme it, I'm thinking pop, tv soundtracks etc here, and often there is little 'real' instruments involved. If these guys and gigs have access to good bass sounds- and the sound of an electric bass becomes more prominent in our cultural musical ideas... surely thats a good thing? I mean at present it's probably instead of synth bass
 24.
I heard Warwick already responded to the drop in sales by dropping production to up exclusivity.

Actually, production was cut so that we are able to ensure a higher level of quality and consistency. We are a relatively small outfit, and over-production was affecting QC. We've made major changes in the last 4 years, and now spend 22-30 hours per instrument vs. 6-9 in years prior. Every step of the build has rigorous checks for quality assurance, and no corners are cut - ever. We've invested in cutting-edge machinery, but also in acquiring the highest-skilled craftsman possible. Some of the instruments made previously wouldn't make it out of the factory today, and we feel that today's instruments are the highest quality in our history. All comments and feedback are welcome, which I will take back to the design team. We want the players involved and are open to all ideas of how we can improve. Thanks!
If you go back a few years on here there were threads discussing this, Small boutique hand built bass makers, focusing on woods and hand production. Start more mechanised workflow, become popular amongst certain genres and start heavy marketing there, sell lots of basses, bring out more models, sell lots of basses. naturally with bigger production QC is slightly lower and the website stops having quite so many pictures of wood sheds on. The genres invested in loose popularity, Warwicks are less desirable (secondhand prices drop stupidly low - good for me!) but my guess is that warwick still were selling a fair few basses... but the core values of the brand... and back then the tread I think seemed to suggest dropping the number made and making them more exclusive and developing rockbass at lower price bands..... and viola! Then think, what do we have that stands out, well we are in the most ecologically conscious and technologically highly advanced society around, why not build machines that can produce our basses with a better consistency to any mexicans in america that FMIC employ, and then lets use happy wood from happy forests..... and there you go Still want a thumb NT
