1. can't stand them. Big old chunky ones are fine as aftermarket items. But why they would make them standard on all fenders I don't know. Also, bug bear of mine- BBOT bridges- described as flimsy. FLIMSY have you ever heard of one being bent out of shape in normal playing? criky, lets ask someone with an old one, Hey Rick's Fine... on all your vintage basses, anything bent out of shape? anything? flimsy my arse!
 2. practice. lots of it. know what things sound like, know your scales.... and practice listening this is quite good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_jFAhN6V9s
 3. I'm sure that folk will come along with lots of knowledge, and some will suggest nice valve DI boxes.... personally I just use any cheap one as it seems to work fine
 4.
bump
5.
Get yourself a bart preamp to go with the pickups? I've always found the bart stuff sounds really good as a complete pickups/preamp ensemble. Alternatively, keep it simple and go passive, vol/vol/tone/tone and see if that does it for you? With you loving the sound of your passive JV, may not be a bad solution as it'd allow the more of the tone of the instrument to come through without a pre colouring it and it'd also match the outputs a little more between the two basses. Just my two cents.... T
Possibility. I was thinking I like vol/vol a fair bit in other basses I've had.. not as quick and easy as vol/bal but somehow works well. For some reason I find 2 tone controls just a bit annoying. The P bass output is a fair bit hotter than the barts on the warwick, but then that's never been a problem of adjusting gain to suit the bass, I used to do lots of PA stuff and when you have 24 channels of stuff going on to set gain on, and then set again if the band changes adjusting one gain between basses, or trying to get the two similar, never seems like an issue to me!
 6. actually, that is pretty heavy isn't it? my Puma 1000 puts out 1000w at 8 ohm and weighs between a third and half the weight. What they stuck in there thats so heavy?
 7.
Because its not a one stop shop, same reason 95% of us buy fully equipped amp heads. Going the separates route means more cables, more complexity etc and in any case - bar the underpowered Amplite - I can't think of a mini Class D power amp that weighs only a few pounds
but what I mean is that that sound that you want from it is possible. Admittedly I wouldn't buy an amplite either but it was just a suggestion. Mind you the Tech21 lass D isn't the most lightweight of lightweight either!
 8. why..... why not just get a VT bass, or VT bass deluxe and a small class D power amp? The SWR amplite for instance (is only 300w) or some other class D power amp?
 9. my both warwick streamer stage one's I've had with active MEC's and MEC 2 band preamp were very very quick attack. It now has barts in it to mask the brightness of th attack. So don't agree with your synopsis. But I had always put the attack on mine down to the woods used.
 10.
I'm partial but I've always thought how great a Warwick sounds unplugged!
so if i get an acoustic guitar pickup and stick it in one of the holes.... they are sound holes! It's finding something that is reasonably like an amplified version of the unplugged or direct sound, but with room for tweaking.... and not sounding like the glockenklang!

 12. so a 6, 7, or 8 string bass. 9 is too many, 10 is far out, 6 is the magic number. 5 is one too few.
 13.
Thanks man Toying with the idea of keeping this at the moment, but I could really do with a 6 String! Either full trades or part ex.
"trade for 6 sting + bass" it say in the title.... does that mean you want a 6 string bass and another bass or a 6 string guitar and a bass? it doesnae make sense
 14.
surely you can just wire the pickups directly to the output jack and have a totally passive bass in the meantime? at least that way it will still be fully functional while you hunt down a commercially made preamp for it.
tis what i've done. I just feel a bit silly playing in front of people with a bass with holes in the front!
 15.
Depends if someone offered to buy off site. Could get well stung.
so many things wrong with that you think someone would have be be a bit daft to get stung by that!
 16.
This thread has made me pull my finger out and put the electronics back in my cheap Dean Edge. I need a bass to leave down the rehearsal room, this on is the cheapest one I own so it's my project bass. But it's been unplayable for 2 years!
need to be simarly inspired. I think really I want new electronics in mine, but don't know what. Almost tempted to design and build my own preamp!
 17.
Sounds like some irony there. I'd love to hear the story! :-) CB
not really my story to tell, and I don't have any real reason to do down someone's business do I? When I lived in glasgow my money went to guitar guitar. that's all I'm saying.
 18.
This time last year big and heavy amps/cabs seemed very uncool but they're making a massive comeback!
are they? is that as much to do with the chinese monopoly on neyodinium (or whatever it's called) as anything else?
 19. though of the day: At christmas I got the pups, thought about it a bit and stuck them in with the glock preamp. didn't like the glock, took it out and left it empty saved up for acg saved up enough and then spent it on engagement ring wired the p pickup to jack so I could play at home with it. saved up again though maybe just use the original 2 band saved up enough blew it all on not realising that I had run out of free mins when calling fiancee realised today that my main bass has been out of action for 6 months! made me sad. really I want to stick a good preamp in there, unsure what though, or what would be good. acg is tempting- but not sure I actually would like it in practice. selectable freq on a normal 2/3 band would be nice, either sweepable or some kinda dip switch thing- or uber flexible like the schack pre. probably the warwick 2 band will be ok, but unsure- also still spending on new pot.... and I keep stopping myself... Meanwhile the P is getting lots of play time! (but really half a year )
 20.
I almost bought an early surf green 81-82 Tokai for £300 on ebay about a month ago. That was all original so I'm thinking this one would be lucky to fetch £200.
the one up loch lomond way? with the schaller bridge? Was owned by someone on here, they couldn't get it set up properly, Jimmy Moon couldn't either so sold it for about £300 in Moon guitars stores- turned up a month later at twice the price in the lovely CC music with the action just high enough you wouldn't clock half the issues- sold and then a month later was on ebay again!
 21. but thats not on a warwick.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5C9AEqaqRw
 22. replacement pickups of some kind- added by someone who can't solder! in perfect condition....£450 or so.... in that condition..... er.....
 23. my guess 1982 -1984
