1.
Luke... I can't really answer that, simple though your question is, as... 1 - I'm old, which means my 'absolute' hearing is not as fresh as 40-odd years ago. 2 - It went into a Douglas 6-string fretless; not exactly 'boutique' in the first place, and not to be compared to a Sadowsky or MM. 3 - We play covers; our youngest plays it and uses extremely 'ordinary' solid bass tone, simply 'classic', which fits perfectly with our set. 4 - Amp..? Hiwatt DR203, 200w 4 x KT88, into a 4 x 10 Ampeg, or 2 x 15 Fender Bassman, or both. With that, any half-decent bass sounds good. Decent basses sound excellent, and ours are decent. Low mids..? In spades, but all the rest too... 5 - I'm a drummer. What would I know about basses..? No, I'm not being completely flippant here, it sounds as if you've got a much clearer idea of the sounds you are wanting than we have. It was just a thought, but if you can use the original pre-amp still, there's no need. Never mind; stand easy, as you were...
It looks like a decent bit of kit, and I think looks like the Eq points are similar to the warwick. And I imagine works a treat with what it's in, and what's it plugged into. If anything I imagine that having the bass point there would sound good through that amp/cab set up BTW most of this x is better than x stuff is rubbish. If it works it works no mater what it says on it. If was as clever as John East and could design my own filter based preamp to run off 9v I would build my own. I can't and don't mind giving ACG my money. but clones like my ones here are, well they're not bad. Case in point- the z.vex woolly mammoth- rep £375 all hand painted case and that.... the circuit has about 7 components on it and would take about £1 to make on vero (the box/pots and switches a bit more) it was when I saw that I decided to sell the Line 6 pedal board I had at the time and make the three effects I am talking about in the thread. They sound a damn sight better than the bass pod, thats for sure!
 2.
The current craze of super lightweight 1x12s/1x15s that can handle serious power is going strong in the USA. The Thunderchild designs seem to be very popular and a true one cab/light solution.
Talkbass sure love their wee crazes
 3.
My advice. Just live together!
ah, but we are both people who love Jesus so thats not really our culture!
Good evening, Luke, and congratulations... I don't know if this will help, but I had to replace the pre-amp in an active bass recently, and bought this... http://cgi.ebay.fr/w...9#ht_4247wt_694 ...all pre-cabled with pots, just drop in and connect battery and jack. Works a treat. It is probably (ha ha...) not as top-notch as the 'boutique' pre-amps, but cost little, and sounds fine to me. Other configurations are available, I think, such as 3-band. Just a thought; could tide you over until the finances improve somewhat..? I certainly have no regrets.
thanks. Interestingly that uses the same bass Eq point as the warwick 2 band. How do you find it? it's got a fair bit of low mids in there I'm guessing. I've actually got the original warwick 2 band which is fine and I guess 'boutique' in terms of quality. I'm playing with the idea of 'upgrading' to something with slightly different EQ points and a bit more flexibility- I'm thinking of sticking an ACG in there- which would be very different. I think if I went with something more traditional I would either stick with the one I have, or try the U retro. I have the luxury of having an amp with the best EQ selection I have used at very useful frequencies and then to use this... which errs me towards trying the ACG.
Hey, I'll buy the small clone off you once I get some money, I need that Kurt Cobain sound for the 'ol 6-string..
first dibs for you then. It's got a much bigger cap on the input and I think slightly bigger on the output so it lets through a bit more bass than normal, also got speed and depth knobs and you can push it to do lots of odd phasing stuff at the extreme depth settings. Pretty cool Are you really in the US though?
 4.
I'd work out how much the parts cost & then add on how long it took you to make. It cost me about £15 for parts (maybe more) to make my looper/mixer pedal. So if I made one for someone, I'd probably sell it for £30-40 depending on what case I used. I want to make a gated fuzz (was thinking about modding the cheapo distortion I have), but I need to actually learn how to read a schematic first.
okay, that sounds like a plan. To be honest if I get back the parts cost I'll be happy. I think the chorus is pretty sweet small clone but tweaked for bass. The Pi will obviously be the cheapest but sounds pretty good. I need to turn rewire a pot as it is backwards at the mo. The SFT clone is an awesome bit of kit.... I'll work it all out this week, first dibs SFT for Ant and for muff for bobbass4k
 5. -A good jazz bass- probably a old tokai or early JV squier one. Or go for an overwater (maybe PJ) - A Warwick JD thumb bass - A stingray (2 band) there you go. that's my GAS list... but a list of what I would want to try at some point. I've had a fair few jazzes and the ones I've had have all been moved on. I would love a thumb- but it probably wouldn't get played much over the streamer (weight more than anything) and a stingray would be cool... but.... I wouldn't play them enough to warent buying them. At the moment I have a great P bass, like JV have a fairly good reputation- and mine is a cracker. It's lightweight, fits my hand and is so responsive to touch- the amount of sounds out of a single pickup bass is astounding. Could I better it and what it does without spending megabucks... probably not. My other bass is a warwick streamer- a early one- it's super light, and sounds so good. I didn't like the sound for so long but new pups and a forthcoming new preamp (U retro or ACG... I suppose that's GAS there of a kind) and ill be set. I used to get attracted to pretty pictures of nice and expensive basses- but then it's sounds great, is light and is good to play- could I better that? Probably not. So no GAS, I won't buy the basses listed above unless I find them for silly money on gumtree or somewhere. I don't need them and am lucky to have the instruments I do. I have the ultimate in rigs for me which I can't see needed changed in the next 10-20 years and guitar wise I have more 6 strings of high quality that I know what to do with (annoyingly this wasn't planned and I should prob move one on but aww they are both great instruments) basses are great. Playing them is better
see my current thread i can suppress the bass GAS but please spare a thought for those of us with GGAS .... 'General' GAS anyone who is a graphic designer will appreciate the allure of all things cute and shiny - shelf after shelf of gorgeous books that only ever get looked at (mind you a fair number of them are pics/design only so nothing to read - win/win!!) there is no cure!
I'm just doing a masters in graphics but my background is in fine art originally- the magpie nature of graphics was shocking when I started. "oooh look pretty things"
 6. actually it would depend on the circuit wouldn't it, the chorus has a £10 chip in it
 7.
I'd happily buy home made fx from a BCer if I had the funds. I'm also getting wed, in July.
but how much funds do you think you might need? Off the top of my head i pull the figure of say 35 posted.... too much, too little?
 8.
Ahhh! I see! - Hmm! I've no idea!
yeah, would be way easier if they were all in own boxes. As it is they are a little bit of a project. I suppose I could offer to get enclosures and the parts for them but then wouldn't be able to let them go as cheaply...
Yup, I'd be tempted by the muff for the right price, drop me A PM. As long as they work people will buy them.
the muff as a circuit and bits, it works but wouldn't be in a box so would need an enclosure and a few parts to finish the true bypass circuit.... BTW I'm not PMing anyone back yet but making a mental note of who got there first in terms of dibs.
 9.
How much for the sft?

^^^^ there's your answer!
ahh... and the problem is... (and why this isn't in the sale section) how much is this stuff worth? All 3 are in one enclosure and I'm guessing folk will will want the circuit on it's own (with pots, knobs and a SDPT or whatever it's called switch) will need enclosure and jacks and LED
 10. So I went and splashed all my bass fund on a ring for the young lady (she said yes, yay!) and just wondering how I can start saving up for both a wedding and the preamp for my wick I want to get. Well someone had a wanted ad looking for a delay pedal, which reminded me I have one somewhere that I can sell, and then thought I stuck home built clones of a Sovtek Green Big muff, a EH Small clone and a Caitlinbread SFT in the same enclosure. All home built, two on vero board, the small clone on printed board (with bigger input and output caps) any way, it works but is home made. was just thinking and I hardly use the thing, well the SFT is great but rarely use it (laziness really) Is that something someones ever going to want to buy? either the whole thing or the boards and pots and switches ready to go in their own enclosures? Or just home built randomness that no one will want?
 11.
I'd be happy to do them if you don't mind paying the postage Scoop Eude
I'll hold the camera!
 12. my guess Yamaha BB1200- mainly cos if you stick Peter Hook into wikipedia it tells you that...
 13. I personally think you should make some videos of them for us all
 14.
Sorry, I don't mean to be stupid. I'm just not sure the neck was the problem I made it out to be. It will be a while before I can get my hands on a grinder, in the mean time I shall have a look for a local repairer, there's a chap around the corner who I think would be a good place to start, he runs a small Guitar shop but mostly does lessons there. I shall take your advice and get more advice before I go chopping away at it. I really do appreciate the help.
the bass was built with a through neck and designed to work with the bridge and pups it has in it. At some point something has happened- you for instance have talked about the truss rod a lot. and you can't get the action low enough. it's not logical to shave the bridge down- it worked with that bridge when it was made. Logically the problem is more likely to be the neck. Sort that out and I suspect that the bridge will be fine as it is. If that means a trip to swansea or cardiff or wherever is near so be it- but go to a proper pro
 15. It seems to me, and I may be wrong, that you are a bit out your depth with the set up on this thing. You are going to mental extremes,if the allen key isn't the right shape to let you turn it, then the main thing is to get a different designed allen key- not lug out bits of the wood. The problem is in the neck- so grinding parts of the bridge away is an odd way to solve the problem. Find a guitar tech and pay them some money to fix it properly.
 16. Thing is, I was thinking it was just a wee local band doing pub gigs and the like. Which I could kinda understand bringing the kids too, (though a bit daft) But you are talking about playing some bigger gigs, touring europe. And I wonder how it will all work then- it's possibly a good idea to get it sorted before it all takes off and contracts etc make it harder to get out of
 17. i think Ped just doesn't like you. Seriously. Not a clue, doesn't happen for me.
 18. Hello Warwick, are you personally based in the USA like your profile says or in Germany?
 19. google deviser. The parent company funky dario is the european distributer and is on here.
 20.
A few years ago, I used to sell classified ads for The Birmingham Mail and we often had people selling stuff who had just bought something, didn't like it for whatever reason and were selling it on. The official guideline that we had was that the minute that the item was sold from it's first retailer, the item could not be described as 'New' even if it was unopened and pristeen. There was no issue with 'As New' as this implies that the item is in exactly the same condition as it left the retailer. The harsh fact is that the minute an item leaves a store following a purchase it is 'second hand'. There's no sliding scale.
two extra letters and a space. More money for the Birmingham mail too!
 21.
Read as "I couldn't find the 'rotate image' button" But seriously tho', it is rather fine looking.
ah see I'm young and can turn my head. I forget some folk can't
 22. This looks like a stunning deal, and chuck seems an great guy. How is none jumping on this? Say you picked up the preamp new, the pickups, the strap and the case new and thats about... £450 ish? So get all that for £350 AND a free bass!
 23.
yeah, it always makes me smile when someone tries to sell you something "oh, yeah, X does not work, but all it needs is this £2 part and you are sorted". Well, how about you sort it first, since it's so easy, and then we talk?
sometimes it's laziness though- and sometimes that gets you a great bargin it's truss rod and neck issues that get me weary. Oh the truss rod doesn't seem to move but maybe I haven't tried and anyway it's been perfect for me for the last year. Like how do I know how much relief you like in a neck, a neck like a banana and your super light strings and a potentially bust truss rod.... or neck alighnment- if it's not a major problem then of course the seller would just unscrew and screw four bolts.... I once passed on a great bass on here at a silly low price because the bridge saddles were set up right at the bottom, i.e. no break angle. Possibly it was fine but the seller couldn't understand I wasn't touching it with a barge pole unless he gave me some more detailed info on how on earth the thing was set up- my suspicion was the neck had a fair bow in it (prob not a problem) and to get action low the saddles had gone down... but try as I might all he kept saying was that the whole thing was fine and the neck was straight..... any way
