1. dafty! you should have kept that P bass I sold you! Anyway Brick is a great guy so trade away in confidence folk!
 2. I wonder how many people signed up on a bass forum would have any interest in a lesson that takes you from holding your bass up to your first song...
 3. DVD and porno video?
 4. thing is apart from a few things I've always wanted to try (and have).... T40, jazz, etc... I've got great basses and find it's far better just to play the things than go window shopping. Most the audience can't tell anyway. I've prob had, I dunno two dozen basses come and go now, the ones that stand out are the T40, the Streamer I have now, the Cimar Jazz and an old Aria fretless I traded with Rasta. The JV is a bit special too. Now of the 5, 3 of them cost under £150 ish. Some of the basses that cost £2000 or so new came and went with little more than a shrug. The wick is a keeper, and the JV is too. At some point I'll get too worried about damaging it and move the JV on and buy something else, but meh, it'll probably be another P bass or a jazz or something. Better just to play the things
 5.
Ones I'd like to try but haven't yet: Warwick thumb
yeah good call, I've played one years back but wouldn't mind owning one sometime. I'm going to talk more about what I would like to own for a bit rather than basses I've no interest in... wouldn't mind trying Overwater ACG (though going to get one of his preamps for the streamer as the cheaper option) Stingray I'ld like a shot on a Yamaha TRB to see what the fuss is about, a good jazz bass, maybe combine that with the overwater to make it an overwater jazz... or probably a PJ, but a jazz with a P pup not a P with a J pup... No interest however in.... rickenbacker
There are loads, but the ones I'm keenest to try are Wal, Alembic and a Peavey T-40.
I think every bass player HAS to try a T40 once in his or her life. If I only had one bass till I died and it was a T40 I would die happy. Possibly of a hideous back injury but a great bass to try.
 6. depends entirely what you want doesn't it? There are some makers designs I just don't like (even if the makers are on here and great people who I would love to buy a bass from) or others who I love their work but have different ideas on the aesthetics than them (I'm an artist/designer) or some which will do a certain sound and not another....
 7.
Hi Luke, Who? - please excuse my ignorance... Is he like OBBM for cables? - I'll check out some of his posts... Thanks for that, Daf
http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/ He knows his stuff and is a nice guy, send him a PM maybe?
 8.
Wow! How right you was! I wasn't implying any of them couldn't play. Just looking for who folk thought was their least favourite. I shouldn't have bothered with a list of ideas & left it to folk to come up with their own. Oh well, I'll take more care on what I'm posting next time.
Yes you did! you said they couldn't play enough to be called bassists.
 9. Okay, lets take just one of your examples- I'm sure it applies to most of them....
Krist Novaselic - Nirvana * I use the term "player" loosely as we're looking for folk that haven't progressed enough to be classed as a bassist.
can you imagine Nirvana with any other bass player? what else would he do, he creates lines and plays them that are perfect for the song and the genre - If you don't get that it's hardly because of his skill. He played bass in bloody nirvana- what else are you going to call him if you don't want to class him as a bassist?
 10. I just sold Martyn a nice motown book. Great guy Luke
 11.
As a youngster in a band that was 'going places' I had it drilled into me to smile shake the hand and say 'Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, thanks for coming!' I pretty much still do to this day
good advice. The band I used to be in played crazy art school electro pop stuff. Lots of fun- but also our major influences were maybe old 80's glasgow bands and a lot of pop stuff... a lot of folk would enjoy it but not have much to compare it too- it was always fun when they came up and were like "that was amazing, you sound just like ...... " it would always be a laugh who they picked! When I play at church compliments probably come from the fact that I play loud enough that you can actually hear me! Though there is a funny story I've heard... I'm sure the ideas of God using people for things isn't entirely foreign- well a common depreciating reply to compliments in christian circles goes a bit like this: "Hey man, really loved what you were doing on the bass in the worship" "Thanks, but it wasn't really me, it was Jesus playing through me" to which the correct response is an incredulous "no mate, it wasn't that good!"
 12.
Thanks for the concern brancini, but actually one of the guys i was thinking of is head sparks at the theatre, so we should be ok... (and it would have to be checked over by him and PAT tested anyway)
you sent silent fly a wee message yet? he's the sort of fellow who would take on your wee project and be able to add it to his line up maybe
 13.
I have an original Tune Bassmaniac and if this is similar, it's a great bass. I however think that with that preamp, sound samples are a must!! I actually think that, in the current market situation, sound samples and some basic data (nut width, string spacing...) would help a lot potential buyers decide - I personally feel that having to ask for that every time irritates the seller so sometimes I just pass... :-(
but equally a lot of folk, on here at least, know what things sound like, and the SGC Nanyo's are well known enough that there are thread after thread telling people what they sound and feel like. Also not everyone has the ability to record samples, even ACG themselves don't have sound samples on their site- just links to other people's samples.
 14. if the church has a half decent PA best thing is use a di box. Bass into DI, link cable into your wee amp and XLR to the desk. That way you use your amp just for yourself and the desk controls the front of house.
 15.
Another page 5 rescue. Things move quickly here... 400+ views, no comments, let alone interest! To get a bass of this age in this condition doesn't happen too often.
aww, have a comment from me.
 16.
Get down to a big big guitarshop that you can play everything there. Obviously I'd say Andertons but there are loads of others like GuitarGuitar that maybe nearer. And just play as many guitars as you can lay hands on and something will choose you. Also at risk of offending the entire forum id take the opinions of bassists with a pinch of salt. There is such a cultural gulf between guitarists and bassists and bassists have a lot of stigmas about things that they can't really claim to understand from a guitarists perspective. Not saying that's the case of any advice given here but I'd give more weight to what guitarist buddies might tell you. (please no one flame grill me I love you all really!)
do guitarists talk to one another?
 17.
He's looking for a good guitar, though, not a Fender
the joke is he has the strat already, and had a SG and sold it not so long ago
 18. I should stick some photos of the Yamaha SG up, I wired some switches in for coil taps which I will mount on the back plate. so much fun! Here's the Taki,
 19.
Which is why, if I were you, I'd go for two There is no one-size fits all in the world of guitars. You should be able to pick up two great guitars for a grand each and, having owned a PRS in the past, there's no way on Earth I'd spend two grand on one (or a Gibson for that matter). If I were in your position, I'd look pick up a couple of Japanese made beauties, something like an early 80's Yamaha SG and a Bacchus strat. Tokai's Japanese 335 style guitars are very nice too. That would comfortably cover all the sonic ground you'd want to. Something like this - I have something similar, amazing guitars http://www.ebay.co.u...=item56464ac98c And you should comfortably find an SG1000 or SG2000 with the change
Great advice there Schnozzalee.... but rather than a Bacchus stat maybe you could find a Fender American Vintage Series '57 Reissue stat (I hear 2011 is a good vintage) and then track down a Yam SG.......
 20. Theres a cheap t45 in gumtree at the mo
 21. i've seen pics of this. cracking looking bass and great price there!
 22. I think it's not a repair and just another bit of wood that's coloured differently. Otherwise it's an impressive repair
 23. you sure it's the preamp sounding overdriven? to me it sounds like the signal is hot enough to make something else overdrive
 24. status graphite are the company name, but yes rods up the neck. Eclipse artist isn;t it? Nice it is
