I mean it's @tauzero that spotted it - with my limited electronics expertise I don't understnad that bit of the circuit and I'm not even sure how he could tell! (edit though it's the same on the schematic as the older L5 preamp they have been selling for years)

Oh balls - I know I’m going to be pricing the parts up this week. Either a good idea or a bad!!
  4. Guitarguitar still have one…
  5. I think that sounds like a good choice
  6. I would love to have a climbing wall at home! oh yeah, and the bass thing
  7. I’ve got a John K mini XO that does this quite nicely A lot of it depends what kind/type and level of dirt you want though. I’m not totally in love with the drive/distortion sound of the mini XO - but I love the sound I can get out of my DIYclone of a barbershop

I guess they don’t have Bob Moog or his old team from the 70s on speed dial…. Aeon isn’t a bass player either so channel one is kinda fender like, and channel 2 is “different”
  9. @fiatcoupe432 - the overall tone seems to be "it's hard to make ends meet doing this" - I hope this is useful. I think you started another thread a while back about opportunities in music to get away from your job. A bad job can be soul destroying, but not all jobs are and even if the dream of full time bass player isn't going to be a full time role I hope you find something else enjoyable to do. I used to work on minimum wage in a cafe, and despite shift hours and low pay it was fun and enjoyable - I've worked in roles with better pay, but worse in every other way. My brother was seriously stressed in his role, and quit and ended up freelancing as a video editor and was a changed man (good money too) - sometimes a jump to something else that isn't the dream is worth it because it either makes you happier, or lets you work shifts and start working on the music income streams.

No, if they only work with Moog onboard preamps I'm fine, phew. Thanks for saving me!
  11. that is one cool bass one of the best basses I've ever played was a 1977 brown stingray.

The trimmer is to set IC8b to a certain gain for a given input - my guess is it’s to set a level for the transistors overdriving - but that’s just a guess. it’s not really taking me out of thing and make something else like a two channel fet2b and ROG ginger or something

It has a gain per channel then a master out on the top right?

I have NO IDEA what it actually sounds like - but I want to make one https://aionfx.com/project/l4-bass-preamp/ ( @disssa has probably made one!)
  16. I was about to say something similar. I think this applies across the creative sector - When I went to art school we were taught that we could do what we wanted career wise - as long as we were prepared to work bloody hard, work other jobs to make ends meet and never really expect much more than minimum wage, at least for the first 5-10 years. What you are thinking about isn't an easy option, and possibly you may end up doing whatever you do now to supplant it for a while... so what about your current career don't you like? Is it the completely wrong thing or just the current job that is grinding you down?

    Depends what you’re aiming for!
  18. I love my colourbox - it’s amazing even off the transformer just does lovely things to your tone, and then gets even better when you turn it on. it also can be over driven if that’s your thing
  19. Source audio C4? All the octave you want without analogue glitching - and as one of those examples seemed more like a synth than a bass which you would get with the C4

Vong is built as per guide, no duff solder I can see… squeeeell different chips can change the freq slightly but something just isn’t right with it when combined with the sushibox. not sure what next - probably decide not to use the valve pedals, sell the Vong or put it in a drawer somewhere- which seems a shame @tauzero I’ll get that sticker in the post tomorrow- its been a super busy week.
  21. double post
  22. In my head you either have a preamp designed around a pickup, the stingray 2 and 3 band being good examples, or you have something with flexibility to tune to your bass. I used to do a wee bit behind a sound desk so having a PA desk type setup makes sense to me. The Glock is a mid control at about 550Hz if you’ve something you can test a boost/cut at that frequency to see if that suits your bass it might be perfect for you. (I’m not suggesting it is the best solution for you, I don’t know, but the east Uni pre also gives you active blend, a passive tone and the ability to tune the bass and treble controls too, so it’s not just the mid boost) im actually surprised how few preamps have semi parametric mids!
  23. I think sometimes we get sucked into internet hype around X bass being better than what we have and just end up dissatisfied. I know I went through that process years back - but when I objectively went through point by point what could be better for me than what I currently had, I realised that the fancy/new/shiney expensive basses would be no better than what I had except for the preamp - so I upgraded the preamp. @Al Krow you've had enough very nice basses to know objectively how good the BB2005 is for you reguardless of price, and if it's good enough a preamp is a decent investment. It's a Yamaha so likely to be good regardless of price. Semi parametric mids can be uber powerful!
  24. I haven't ever tried it but your experience backs up by thoughts about how it would work.
