I saw one of these a couple of years back, that would have been a 8 hours drive to get but was considering .... it was in great knick but the rear pickup had gone... researching these I quickly realised that you couldn't replace them and didn't make the silly drive. Oh well, my loss? With the active pickups in the original gone I was trying to work out what you would replace them with ... I came up with something active like EMG and an active filter based preamp would probably be the closest to an AAlembic sound - a multi coil setup like a Wal was also something I considered. The pickups that far back is going to be a thinner sound, Alembic/Wal are going to normally cut the top end to sound darker, the Warwick preamp boosts bass at around 120Hz or so - so maybe try some heavy EQing. While I am not jealous of you having to solve this problem... I kinda am!

is it more vintage sounding?

Purely my opinion, but the Hipshop A sounds like a good choice. I think we would agree on the importance of the neck to the sound, but in my limited experience bolting things together the bridge, and how the neck is attached to the body do make a difference. You've spoken about the "Wal recipe", for me the "fender recipe" includes screwed on neck (not bolts) and a vintage style bridge - change these and you start to move away from it. IMO, YMMV etc

and design. - if the mass is used to make different bits stiffer. I think if you go for a similar ballpark style as Wal use you will be close enough.

If you installed an MN3207 upside down … would it kill it?
-
I imagine another way of thinking about it is rather than walking off cos of a big list of issues, you had more important things going on than putting up with badly run childish nonsense of a band. Sometimes more important things are more important

I can - if I want a wal bass 4 years is very long time to wait. Longer than that for the possibility that I might be able to get on an order list to wait 4 years at an increasing price…. If I had the money I’m just buying a secondhand one at whatever price…. In 5 years I might be dead, have no money or who knows… either you are musically be in need of a Wal or financially it’s not an issue and then you will get one. that says I’m not in the bracket of being able to afford!

it's crazy isn't it? I've got a mate who's got a bit of inheritance money and would like to buy his first proper jazz bass... he's got £800 to spend. A few years ago that would get you a nice American Fender, or start to find lots of boutique things on Basschat that have devalued a bit.... Now some secondhand Mexican fenders are out of his price range.

He looks good at the weekend though in a Skandi style... till they opens his mouth and sounds like a fishwife

2021 onwards MacBook Pro will do at low level and then I looked at different headphone amps but none of them seemed to have had enough power so I bought a mini behringer mixing desk that does!

So fixed the pedal with 20 components… onto the one with 131 components 🤯😬

First of all - thanks to @Woodinblack for the above help… might be useful for folk more at my level (Ie idiots) to go through how I got it going… Stuck a drum beat or demo from toy keyboard through it. Measured small voltage on input measured slightly larger at test point 1, bigger again test point 2 none at the volume or output tiny numbers wobbling around weren’t telling me much, so made an audio probe out of a Jack socket, a cap and two wires …. Ran that into my compressor at fasted and highest ratio… and into preamp to headphones… followed the toy keyboard beat around the circuit - figured the third stage 2n2222 wasn’t working switched it out for another one soldered it together, followed the beat to the end plugged in a bass and played!!

I have 600ohm ones. sounds lovely, pain in the derrière to drive

I can remember that from my trace... they filters are set differently from each other.... how I don't know cos I didn't finish the trace. ...

Only if you use Tone puppets
-
Aparently the top producers use them on synth parts too
-
Don’t worry - in the video Scott is interviewing Steve Albini, Nigel Godrich, Brian Eno and some other producer who’s name I forget and def they give props to our Ped.
-
I take it you’ve not subscribed to the enhanced pro level package on Scott’s bass lessons? The puppets are covered in the “studio tone secrets - lesson 5” I think. Once you know, you know, if you know what I mean

First time with a pedalboard today - Quatschmacher’s double bass preset on the C4 on one song ”loved watching you play bass and get into the music, couldn’t hear you weren’t on in the mix at all”

How? How much voltage on r2?
-
I’m now at the FFS it doesn’t work - let’s check everything stage of my builds. Both with no output thing is the only major difference between these two boards and others I’ve made is that these have surface mount J201 jfets - i made a test rig and checked the ldss of them - then soldered them in carefully - the board has space for a leaded version of them too so checked for continuity of my soldering … have I killed my jfets somehow? (Other thing I need to test is try a different power supply )

I’m just miming. It’s actually a keyboard doing the bass line

Good sense of humour - probably shouldn't have called Ped a willy
