There is audio similarity between John East's uni-pre and the ACG EQ-01 pre, there's something in both preamps which is a brilliant clean, clear and lovely sounding... it's one of the nicest preamp out there by my book, I loved the ACG in my streamer and the Uni-pre has transformed my Lakland... There was something on some really geeky audio forum I heard where they were comparing their bass passive into a load of high end preamps... and they threw the recording with the Uni-pre ... and a few people commented that it sounded as good (if not better) than some of those fancy preamps... However it does not sound like, say a Sadowsky preamp which feels less polished and to my cloth ears at least the Wal's I have tried preamp were closer to this kinda sound. My theory of the LPF Wal sound is something todo with a slightly more primitive preamp than ACG, and also something about how the resonant peak at the cut off point gives some kind of phase or group delay around that point making it sound rich and almost like a very specific slight chorusy thing going on. My ACG equipped Streamer in recordings had a similar thing going on if I boosted both resonant peaks to the righht amount... but interestingly I didn't notice it when playing and it was only when recorded I noticed it. Be interesting to see how the Lusithand does - my guess is it will be closer because it's more likely to be a closer electronically, and not being dismissive on whoever makes them, but John and Alan knew what they were doing when they designed the ACG pre and designed something lovely to fit that need, using all of their combined skills... and they probably went beyond the Wal preamp in some ways...

For testing purpose raising the strings will give you the same test without routing the body. Be a pig to play but hopefully tell you if you do need to rout lower…

it sounds odd, but I had 3 for ages and had a similar problem you describe, I always had the runt that was up for trade or sale or whatever... got to try a load of cool stuff so not a problem. With 4 you have a selection of flavours to try. So if you've got two rays, a limelight P go buy a jazz. You might not use it much, or the P but you've got those flavours there.

Have four. then you have two that don't get played as much and relax a bit about it.

I have no idea if it’s any good cos I’m not far along my learning … but I picked up a Korg SV1 off someone on here with my bonus last year. Fully weighted keys and NO screen at all!

You will be fine

Then you will need to stop some things to make it sustainable. any you read the ruthless elimination of hurry by John mark comer? I can recomend

A good thing I’ve used for in the past is divide your time up between times you are giving (playing, preaching, making the teas and coffees, whatever) and times you go to receive, worship, and erm sabbath on your sabbath … both are important. 50/50 is about the maximum healthy I think - 66/33 is possibly but starts to get draining

Rotas and don’t end up doing too much- giving time, skills and energy volenteerring to make the church work is good… to much and it’s not at all

I found the treble stack really poor sounding till I realised I could change the internal trim pot - for me the treble off the neck pickup fitted better than the bridge. I’ve not had anything more than quick try of Wals but to my ears the preamp was less hifi whereas John East designed stuff has a certain clean clear tone going on
-
If you use much of the treble stack The blend control for the treble stack (on the board) is fairly powerful tone shaper.

And how does the test bed sound?!

I've not fixed the preamp on mine but I've been picking it up more and more to play passively. It plays really nicely

For a moment I thought this was yours… https://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Ibanez_Musician_1982.html?fbclid=IwAR1JcYqyzeC9s9XkuAjotRjETZzXmyODZ6LfSjH6oVIlZD_ubEy0-h6Q_dY

Why would you do this? (Barefaced content)
LukeFRC replied to Merton's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
flog the speakers and send it back to barefaced to have the correct speakers added and it might not be the worst idea. -
Wanting to identify my old Japanese bass
LukeFRC replied to BassManBubba's topic in General Discussion
have you got a picture of the alleged prank so we can confirm or deny? -
What are the external effects? If you switch them out one by one does it change anything? Even off some maybe be buffered bypass. Also taking them out let’s you test the cables too…

Looks nicer than I had previously intimated

Looks like the apprentice was told to get a test piece to work on their dot inlays

oooh very nice where did you find that? If you look online you can find the 70-90's catalogues for ESP, mainly focusing on the complete instruments they would have been building. I'd love a Navigator Espionage
