  1. There’s one of them in red some fella is selling online - I keep having to pretend I didn’t see it
  2. till they die on you, or till you sell the bass?
  3. man @Owen sees that and it will all get expensive
  4. Glad I found this thread, thats tomorrows work soundtracked... also slightly OT, I love the national but seeing them live is a weird experience... starts off as a slick stadium band, ends up with Matt as a drunken mess in the audience in a way that would have been amazing in a venue a 10th of the size, bit odd.
  5. Aww I'm going to miss seeing the bitsas - but not the sense of regret when someone else gets them before me!
  6. you know I'm quite partial to a A string. you can do lots of things with it, it's the B string I find more puzzling
  7. that's a good idea generally - It stops the impulse and somehow writing it down helps think it through properly too.
  8. I played a wedding once, the church bit not the party but. there was a hastily put together trying quartet - decent cello player, very very good violin player playing viola, rusty violin player who played by knowing where to fret and a ok violin player who played by ear. Bride enters to adagio for strings or something - sounds great. Bride gets to front of church … song keeps going for ages! anyway wedding, church type song happen with our band… bride and groom go to leave to what was supposed to be (randomly) a non vocal version of verve’s bittersweet symphony- odd choice but had sounded amazing in rehearsal. string instruments- a church that’s got a lot hotter since the opening… everything’s out of tune… one violin player puts her fingers in the right places even though she’s no longer in tune, the other guy corrects to play the notes I tune and the viola player forgets she’s playing the viola and starts reading the violin line. nightmare. It didn’t sound much better when bass drums and guitars launched in. Marriage didn’t last either
  9. Cimar "1905" model Jazz bass from 1975. Ash body, maple neck. Bought for £40 about ten years ago. Done up and sold to a mate who was after a bass... only when it went did I realise how fun it was to play. Mate realised it too. It was odd, I had loads of basses that were "better" but there was something about that instrument that was just really enjoyable to play.
  10. you don't need that one. its not blue
  11. @gapiro - what colour is your 55-02? surely that's almost the same thing in a different colour?
  12. Oh it’s horrid ild hate to have a bass like that… oh wait… 😁🤪
  13. That’s what I thought but found a post where Roger said that it wasn’t and yoshi kikuchi had cut his interest in AtelierZ before starting Sadowsky japan … Japanese manufacturing is apparently quite collaborative so a factory building the bits that then a semi independent team put together isn’t inconceivable … and there’s a video from Bass japan direct where he says it’s ESP… I mean process of elimination for the volume it’s probably going to be one of the bigger manufacturers… Fujigen, Devisor, PGM or ESP … and Devisor and Fujigen aren’t based on Tokyo… so…
  14. I think I heard the Japanese metro manufactures might have been also called ESP for everyone’s interest, and tangential related to this thread… Sadowsky blue label steel strings have def changed since the Warwick licensing thing, similar, not as balanced and sweet tonally in the mids and less tension
  15. well - go on then, please do explain to us (that know almost nothing about it ) why we shouldn’t find the battle flag of the confederacy offensive. (and I guess Ild wonder why you care if we find it offensive?) Afterwards I’ll explain the basics of semiology which will hopefully help you understand if not agree with most views in this thread, and also why ideas and symbols can’t really be separated
  16. Is blue her favourite colour as well as yours? And was she actually after your bb1600?
  17. Having just read the thread back again - respectfully, wtf are you on about? No one has mentioned country musicians, or even “all southerners” - the whole thread has been about the morality of putting the flag of a bunch secessionist states (that crucially liked keeping humans as property, that started a war over it) on a bass - especially when that flag in the U.K. and US has increasingly become a rallying point for a certain type of right wing racism … plus someone pointed out the stars were wonky.
  18. It is a bit like a AA meeting where the guys who have fallen of the program still go to the meeting- and show off their bottles of whisky or something
  19. See this is another reason your back benchers don’t like you - “you’re”
  20. I wonder if Basschat erm... so I work for an American company, so apploagies for how I will l write this... but I wonder if Basschat reached out to Rickenbacker and tried to come to some understanding... if the answer was about speed of take down of fakers there presumably could be agreements RE how quickly things happened that would suit everyone ... or something. anyway, hope you're on the mend @Kiwi
  21. @Clarky - exactly, he's the best bass gear reviewer out there. I flipping love him. Good old @Dood
