  1. Rule of thumb - if you are debating the grey areas around an abstinence challenge you’re not really doing an abstinence challenge …
  2. I played this at same time as Lakland USA, Sadowsky Metro, Atelier Z and some fancy expensive Dingwall thing. Until now I thought it would have cost more than those not-cheap basses.... surprised it's not!!
  3. actually google found it for me! looks nice. One difference to mine... Sadowsky metro japan pickups with sharp edges apparently made by Dimarzio or Seymore duncan, the later ones with a slight radius to the edge were made by nordstrand (to the same reciepe I guess)
  4. I have no idea. Used Japanese ones seem to have had a bit of a price rise since they stopped making them and secondhand is about the same as a new German one. The Will Lee MIJ retailed new at about £3k. Whether the weird pricing between the japanese and German ones is justified or not I don't know, I've not tried the German ones (and I'm biased anyway owning a japanese one).
  5. IF that bass is as good as mine it's easily worth a 2.5 drive. I took it too a bass bash and had three people sidle up to me and ask if I wanted to sell it, I took it to @walshy's for him to try and he bought his own Sadowsky the very next day...
  6. I’ve got one of them, @warwickhunt traded it for me. It redefined what I expect in a bass, sounds amazing and super fast neck. Mind is just amazing, I has a real middy tone and doesn’t sound quite like a trad jazz bass - but I think that could be a freak to my specific instrument rather than all of them. never played a Victor Bailey though - sorry. is playing them side by side a possibility?
  7. Suggesting @Owen should keep the bass he has that speaks both fretless language and fretted dialect with a very quick turnaround?
  8. I’ve played this bass. I would be surprised if it does. I’m almost tempted to buy it just so @castlemaine22 can buy it back when he realises… (we live a mile or so from each other, I have him to the east and Scott Devine to the west - I am very obviously one of the worst bass players locally!)
  9. still kinda wish it had one less string - think the nicest bass for sale at the moment
  10. shared this with a friend locally... was trying to explain the difference between it and my blue P
  11. See if you’ve got a “perfect” that’s not really an issue… if I ding it it’s just my bass with playwear… …. if I’m trying it and it’s not perfect there a bit in the back of my head thinking about all the extra damage to photograph when I come to sell
  12. you sir are a genius font of all knowledge. (on the bass recognition bit, not the rascal recognition bit)
  13. google: Hi, I return to this thread to tell you about my experience as the owner of a Fodera nyc Deluxe 5 strings and 24 frets. It is a heavy bass, it is not light I have others lighter than the fodera, and even here the bad I have to say about this bass. For me, it's wonderful, I have dual pickups so you get two sounds, one more modern and one more jazz bass than ever, but with those foolish touches, I have to confess that it is not a plug and play bass either, as a precision bass or a fender jazz bass that is plug and play, I would say from my experience that it took me a few months to adapt, to get everything it can give and I imagine that until you do it, it is like that, but when you adapt and You make it yours is the best I've ever tried, in concerts and on recordings it sounds beastly, it doesn't need anything, the neck is butter apart from being very nice, it allows a ridiculously low action without frets although I personally have certain frets that I like. The preamp is two-band with passive tone control, and to go from duals to singles. The body is in ash with a maple top and the bird's eye maple fingerboard, the three-piece maple mat and the headstock has a precious rosewood plate, the color is defined as "transparent grape". In short, I am delighted with him, I love the lacklands, the MTDs, the Elrick ect ... but in classic aesthetics this fodera makes me stupid. I am attaching a photo although up here, I have seen some of my bass. https://www.doctorbass.net/es/c/?iddoc=1000171618 I don't know how to add photos from my gallery ... hehehe
  14. what is it exactly you're wanting to find out about it? You've got maker, specs and former owner... I can't imagine there's much else
  15. I always wanted to try one of them - no knobs on the fretless?
  16. Given that the tracking doesn't seem to work... how long should a Thomann order take?

I had a DHL no-show last week, despite being informed of a 1hr delivery window. They tried the next day and the drop-off point supposedly refused the guitar. The drop-off point was recommended by DHL.

      It's in Thomann's hands now.

I am getting the feeling the answer was and is in the future something that rhymes with “Chase Effect”

I hope they eventually delivered your Thomann order. Mine arrived today undamaged, which is not bad at exactly 5 working days since I ordered it. Unfortunately, the main part of the order, which was a Guild B-240EF fretless acoustic bass had clearly not been through proper quality control. The nut and bridge were cut much too low. The first string was practically touching the fretboard immediately after the nut and it rattled horribly. The fourth string wasn't much better. It had quite a noticeable bow in the neck. I think that, rather than send it back for a new nut, the factory QC just slackened the truss rod a bit to make it almost playable. If I had tightened the rod to get less of a bow, the top string would have been touching all the way up. I am not sure if it is because of this but plugged in the middle two strings were much louder than the 1st and 4th.

I have started a return/replacement request but assuming it is collected on Friday, I am probably not going to see the replacement for another two weeks. This is the second time I have had to return a faulty guitar to Thomann. I suspect they just take the boxes out of the warehouse and post them without more than a perfunctory check. The battery was still in its plastic wrapper, so clearly it had not been plugged in before being posted and how anybody could think the setup was acceptable, I don't know. It is irritating but then I have had similar experiences with Andertons. It seems quality control is not a priority for the volume box shifters.

  17. this thread I guess - but the OP has already found that...
  18. No idea what it is - but it looks lovely!
