I have had many lovely basses. Normally driven by my desire to have x, y or z or a specific version of a specific model ... I would be able to tell you all the specs, all the history, have read every thread on it on talkbass, basschat and a google translated bassic.de and only bass... ive ended up by two basses, both bought by accident without much thought. moral of the tale, the G&L would have been nice, but not as nice as it possibly is in your mind, and not much of a step up from the Yamaha BB you ended up with as you imagine... -
I know that many bassists don't like 'showboaters' ....

I liked that. Interesting nut on the bass too, doesn’t go all the way across. -

It’s gone man. Sorry about that. The shop have been really good to you which is great so you’ll get your money back, might take a while cos of the couriers and the shop probably what their insurance back before giving you your cash back- which is understandable. It’s a sucky situation. Would have been nice, but it’s gone. Hold on till you get your cash back and find something else... lightweight P bass, wonder if Jon shuker will do one of his lightweight Burnell basses in shell pink? -
well it's one more maker off any future GAS list!

only making 100 mind.

I would be feeling like it had been lost and I was waiting for an eventual refund. that way if/when it shows up it’s a happy thing and you will enjoy the instrument, there’s been a few things in the past where the stress getting it means the owner doesn’t enjoy it when it arrives. If it were me I would be trying to avoid that. -

You’ve kept at least one mouse I hope

the one thing with higher gain sounds is worth experimenting with... pick the b15 sim with a separate cab b15 cab block.... experiment turning the cab on and off.... you can get into hairy overdrive and the cab tames it to give you nice harmonic richness.... turn the cab off and it's way too fuzzy.
-
yeah - some of the cab models are good examples. Solo they sound a bit spongy and fluffy... but if they are what it take to make the sound sit in the mix better*... why be precious? *presuming DI to desk, obv diff if running into backline

I think that's the slight problem bass players have compared to guitarists. - I think there is often a lot more colouration given by effects, amp and speaker, A patch set up to make you sound like John Squire of the Stone Roses for example, will probably get you in the ball park given similar pickup types.... with bass it seems a bit more subtle and playing with small margins, I'm pretty sure to get a specific tone that will work for a wide range of basses you would have to kill a lot of the dynamics. And yes, not enough clean amps. I liked the SWR and EBS sims Zoom have. Going back to John's Dr Tone stuff one thing I took from his latest flat mids amp settings is how low he ends up running the gain on most the models to get a clean sound. Also the fender bassman amp sounds nice clean.

B·U·L·L·S·....

Yeah, there's a trend in indie stuff of not doing encores. It's not that unusual, didn't the Stone Roses do the same? Laura Marling I think too. I can't remember, don't care. The lovely eggs are going to get a shock when their web traffic tripples due to this thread or something!

Looks great!

My take is that he probably makes the best presets around if you play a Yamaha attitude. nah the presets I’ve never been blown away by, Maybe learn a little in terms of new ideas of how to set things up maybe. his flat mids amp settings though are really good starting places for a default good amp block starting point and build from there. That said I’ve never got the point of paying for a preset that I could work out myself, what are some wow ones that are worth paying for?

His latest flat mid settings surprised me- they are volume matched and if anything quiet!
