  1. Owen you have been very kind in the past letting me try various bits of your gear, you should have said when we were in your neck of the woods - I'm sure I could have lent you the kids to experience those days again! (Like GAS, the memory is probably better than the reality)
  2. my hay fever means I haven't slept well lately, last night my 14 week old daughter is full of snot and decided to be spectacularly sick in our bed at 1am. It is very much a big pot of coffee morning. This music has made me happy though, thanks @owenOwen
  3. Or even the Dual sound set at the same octave could do similar
  4. Was there a Moollon era too? Talking of basses, @Al Krow - you’ve got a new profile pic with no white 5 strings in it!
  5. he's bred the orange one with the blue/lilac one... you wait he'll be showing off a purple one soon
  6. I saw that on their fb - it looks great! I tried the 4 string double cut that’s currently in the FS section and the neck was lush
  7. Not done that yet! For me on the 4 I can tend to default to the low roots on the E and A. On the 5 that wouldn’t sound amazing so it forces me to play higher up the neck and across the strings ... turns out that works better on the 4 string too!! sunday was ok. Looking back at the live stream the bottom of the acoustic was swamping my freq a bit
  8. The one in the OP ended up at the bass gallery - I think it’s there now - if you take their photo and compare it to a standard 60s or 70s jazz then *both* pickups are closer to the bridge! Even closer than a 70s fender position
  9. is it though? You've paid cash for an item, the seller is given the option of either shipping it (and therefor being able to prove delivery via the shippers) or having you collect it showing the pass code/ QR code that eBay provide. ... so from eBay's point of view the guy has done neither so you should lean on them for your money back. Just cos the guys made a crap story up doesn't mean that suddenly he gets to keep the cash and the cab is stolen from you at his front door...
  10. if you have two basses you will have your main bass that sends you to the moon, and the backup the paradox of owning more than a few basses - you want all of them to send you to the moon. But you can only play one at a time, so if you pick the best the rest of the basses you have, by definition won't be the best you've got and won't send you to the moon...
  11. Have you had it long enough to know you’re not over the moon? Does it do things that are unique and mean it’s a counterpoint to the rest of your herd?
  12. Stick with the 1300 for a bit. It might grow on you, and you’ll not find another
  13. Walshy has a nan with a van he uses and recomends
  14. The 4 - it’s being live-streamed to YouTube and I’m fairly sure the 4 will sit in a mix with no bottom better
  15. Update from me. First time playing in a year or so coming up tomorrow at church. Was practicing at home on the four string. I'm still ambivalent about the five string, in that I don't feel the need to own a 5, or identify as a "5 string player", my 5 is good enough to keep regardless of the fact it's a 5. BUT I just found out that playing the five string has majorly improved my ability to play the 4, learning the fretboard far better, and bizarrely creating more melodic lines.... so that's good!
  16. I don't think that that is necessarily the greatest analogy as the amount of tech in cars has changed so much. You can add a preamp to a bass but you equally can go your whole life playing passive basses and never really miss out. The difference I look for between great instruments and 'meh' instruments is similar to acoustic instruments, in how the thing resonates, sounds, and feels. Generally if I go and buy something from someone really top end, I dunno, Fodera, Overwater, Sadowsky NYC etc I expect it to sound 'right' passive/unplugged and to have a fairly even response across the board. As I go down the price points I expect the chances of getting something that does that well to go down. (Unless it's a Yamaha, in which case it will probably be a lot better than other instruments at the price point.) Fender CS prices, I expect it to bye pretty good as an instrument, regaurdlesss if they are recreating a '50's instrument, a C18th violin or a modern instrument.
  17. Two thoughts: First - Some exceptional basses do just sound "ok", there's something about a consistent bass, even throughout the fretboard and with a fairly smooth tone response that might work fantastically in a mix. Secondly - One of the worst basses I've ever tried was a Fender Custom shop. YMMV
  18. lovely guitar.... and I've not seen a website like that for a while!
