Soon-ish... No specifics at the mo. I think we are looking weeks rather than months now.
Wonderful news pal
Turn your head sideways and you can see a fat ninja in the grain
Magic!
Slotting issue resolved and progress is underway. As a taster here is a rough cut of the body (before final sculpting etc)...
Now that is a cool looking bass. I used to struggle a bit with that Roscoe shape, but to my eye now, it's very much the "Thumb Bass" of the Roscoe range and that's never a bad thing Really chuffed things are on the move again dude, congrats Eude
I've got my LB212 and was surprised that it weighed 24kg! I had a look inside and its got celestion 12 200x Speakers in. Thinking id been sold a lemon I rang ashdown and spoke to Dave who designed the LB I sent him some photos and he assured me its how it should be? He said they used emminence in these cabs as well depending on what they had and that he would expect it to be heavier as it was heavy gauge birch ply. he told me I as lucky to get one of the few remaining British cabs There is a label inside saying who covered the cab and he said that it was made just up the road by the people who make orange cab. So its heavier than expected but seems top quality. Ill see how it sounds when my mibass head arrives today if its not for me ill just move it on but hopefully its a good un Bri
Wow, that's a bit heavier than expected! I guess if you can live with the added weight, it'll have added oomph! Be interesting to hear how heavy other folks' LB cabs are?... Hope you MiBass arrives safe and sound and you manage to give the whole setup a damn good go tonight Eude
Luke - do you mean USACG (USA Custom Guitars)?
From what I've heard, they make all the wood bits for Valenti Bass Guitars... -
My LB 212 is defo feels around 15kg which is astounding considering its output,( I am actually going to weigh it on some scales, will get back to you with the definitive) I am not saying the VS are heavy either, when you compare them with similar offerings in the market. Both the VS and the LB are great cabs, they really sound fantastic and because of the shape of them they are easy to move through doors etc and have great on stage dispersion. But who is going to be the first to run two VS212 ? ha ha that would be silly loud!
Well at 31kg, I reckon the VS-212 is no lightweight, but it's a big capable cab by all accounts and it's very cheap, so you can't have everything I agree, 2 of them would be a very powerful setup, but I imagine best reserved for someone who needs some serious on stage volume!... Hey mate, love the sound of the spec, and I don't think anyone will make you a better bass like that for the money. There is a small question of a wait, but at the end of the day, it'll be more than worth it. I'm more of an ACG guy these days, but I have owned 2 Shukers and they were absolutely incredible instruments and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jon's work. I'd say go for it Eude
I'm not sure about the VS cabs weighing more than the LB's. I emailed Ashdown a while back when they came out and they told me they were identical except the VS212 is a 4ohm cab and the LB212 is 8ohm. I also think they were lying about the weight of the LB cabs, somebody was selling an LB112 on here recently because it turned out to be 15kg instead of the advertised 9kg! Not sure what's going on really.
Really? I heard the LB cabs had Neo drivers and the VS ceramic ones, oh and the LB ones were handmade in the UK, hence the price difference. (I see you're a knight of Croydonia, I'm moving to Sanderstead in a couple of weeks!) Eude
i saw the mibass cabs on the site the other day but not for sale anywhere yet. Thats why i went for the LB 212 I need my new set up as i have gigs lined up. Pity as i would have liked the modular aspect of 2 112 cabs. Still I think i would use both cabs most of the time due to the drummer and guitars so will (hopefully!) be happy with the LB if its as good as Ive been told.
So, is it here yet?... Eude
LB212 is a great cab powerful, light, tight deep lows, made in uk, exquistly made (well mine is) very well balanced thoughout the range, outstanding value for money. vs is good but heavy and looses 100 watts power. I guess if people starting going on at ashdown they will make some more lb's. They do listen! This could be clever marketing, their UK made stuff is lush. I would have paid £100-200 more for my LB it is a great cab.
With them opening up their "custom shop" they'll make you anything you want these days
Can't see the combo on their website yet - so maybe there's more to come!
Yup, there's 4 MiBass Combos, a 1x10, 1x12 and 2x8 with a removable MiBass 220 head and a 1x15 with a removable MiBass 550. I really wish they would do the 1x12 with the MiBass 550 in it, that plus the Mi12 cab would be perfect for me, although I'm sure I could settle for the MiBass 550 head with 2 Mi12s if I have too... More info here >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/171636-new-ashdown-gear-at-musikmesse-2012/
Presumably its for the 220 head?
Yeah I guess so, but would it not be a better bet to buy the 1x10 Combo then, as it already has the same head in it, if the Mi10 cab was an 8 Ohm jobby, it'd be the perfect addition to the combo... Eude
I agree - a 4-ohm 10" cab is pointless, but it could be a misprint. The new vinyl covering on the MiBass combos looks really swish, at least on the YouTube video.
I guess they could be going for the EA Whizzy Double Bass market with their 1x10, it's a whizzer style cabinet from what I can tell. Eude
There seem to be some mibass cabs now. I hadn't seen them before http://www.ashdownmu....asp?section=mb They look good. quite like the look of the 4 ohm 110
Reckon they just appeared on the site today! I personally reckon they should've made the 1x10 an 8 Ohm cab too, as they're doing a 1x10 MiBass Combo, so that would've been a really nice modular setup. Apparently these cabs are gonna have a kinda carbon fibre looking "diamond tolex", and the 1x12 will be a taller vertical oriented cab, i.e. be designed to be up on it's end, the pics on there are the prototypes.
I just googled it and they ranged from 369 to 390 I found one at music junkie for 329 (never bought from them so taking a chance but its on the plastic so should be protected) seems to get reports re output and weight to take on barefaced cabs Not used them before so we will see I will keep you posted
Yeah, it's a 4 Ohm Cab, so you'll get all the power of your MiBass from it, and it's apparently very light for a 2x12! Can't wait to hear how you get on! Cheers, Eude
Cheers Stevie I've ordered a mibass 550 and an ashdown LB212 cab both get really good reviews and recommendations on the forums ill let you know how I get on with them both thanks everyone Bri
Nice one mate! Really looking forward to hearing how you get one with it! Where'd you find the LB212 Cab? They're quite hard to get hold of these days, plenty of VS212s kicking about, but they're a bit heavier.
Two Vs-112s is a great little setup, I am a big fan of paired 1x12s as they are so versatile. The only concern I have with the VS/LB112 is that the power handling is pretty low, so I wouldn't want to put a Spyder/ABM/MiBass 550 through a pair.
I'm sure it would be fine if you're careful with the volume control and keep you ears open for any signs of distress. Perhaps the Spyder 330 would be a better match for the VS-122 cabs then... Eude
I have a LB212 a really great cab, It sounds fantastic, light and beautifully made (in uk) it has great lows and good mids / highs even though its got no tweater. It is also very sensitive so its loud, great dispersion. It also is very clean, it handles rated power nicely. The VS series, I was told are identical except the vs is chinese made (still fantastic build quality) and has custom made ceramic drivers rather than the uk made neos, bit heavier but still a great cab, 112 are also great cabs. There are quite a quite a few lb112 still around, you can pick them up at the same price as a vs equivalent which is a steal, considering the price of the drivers in them. In hindsight I would have gone for two VS/ LB112, as it gives me more options for rehearsals etc. But I am happy with the LB212 its seriously all you ever need for most gigs, it has a great on stage dispersion, and sounds fantastic from any angle, happy bunny here. I am using my Di'ed LB30 and 212 for most stuff I am doing, ( we are all miced / di ed even the drummer, I cant be arsed with stupid on stage vol) . But I have got some big shows lined up in the summer, so have got a CTM300 and CL610 on order, cant wait. LB30 CTM300 are seriously ground breaking amps (these are the work of Dave Green, the ex Matamp designer) the VS LB and CL cabs are also fantastic, they need to be to keep up with these amps. I also like the MIbass def, the best lightweight amp around at the moment, esp if you use it with an optical valve squasher like a EHX Blackfinger, blows all other lighweight stuff into the weeds.
Wow, thanks for the input dude, and you Walbassist. I've had a dig around online and found a few LB-212 cabs still on the go, and the LB-112 ones too, however the VS-112 cabs are £123 over on Thomann! At that price I could get a 2 x VS 1x12 setup with a 500W ABM head, a 550 Spyder or the MiBass 550 for a little over £600, or maybe even just got for the 330 Spyder and spend the rest on liquor and black jack! I am tempted to hang fire till the MiBass cabs come out though, especially if I end up going for the MiBass head. I had an email conversation with Lee for Ashdown who said the cabs will be very keenly priced. Dan, what's the flat tone like from the MiBass head, my previous tonal nirvana was a MarkBass LittleMark 250 head run flat, for reference. So now I'm thinking, either a more classic sounding rig with VS 1x12 Cabs and probably a Dual Tube Series Head, or... a more modern sounding rig, with MiBass 1x12 Cabs and the MiBass 550 Head. Shame I can't afford both. Watch this space... Eude
I'd imagine there's little difference between the LB112 and the VS112. I'd say go for it!
I know they're heavier, I guess as they've got ceramic drivers instead of the LB neo jobbies. Reckon they'll fairly versatile? I like a fairly clean full, lots of low mids, and a little bit modern sound. I know most of that will come from the head, but do you think the cabs will be able to deliver that kind of tone? Eude

Hey guys, sorry to revive an "oldish" thread, but was wondering if any of you can help? Have any of you tried the newer Ashdown 1x12 cabs, the VS-112's? Particularly running a pair of them? I'm looking to get a 2 x 1x12 rig later this year and these little cabs have got my attention, for two reasons, I'm quite keen to buy an Ashdown setup if I can find what works for me, will probably end up with a MiBass head, but the price on these lil' pups is almost too good to be true... Cheers, Eude
If they was made in the UK, then I could understand (to an extent, as we usually make crap). But it's probably made in China, therefore you're not really buying British! Markbass is Italian & made in Italy. If you can get an LM & a Barefaced cab, I can't see you needing anything else amp/cab wise for some time.
Well, they're a British company, which is something at least. LM, yup, cool, Barefaced, I'm afraid I'm not sure about. I didn't like the Compact I tried a wee while back, plus they're designed to sound great in a live, loud, band context, as far as I'm aware, but that comes with the sacrifice of good tone at lower volumes, I really want a versatile solution. If money was no object, I'd have a MarkBass LittleMark and an EAD Foundation 212 in a heartbeat! Eude
It depends what you call "flat". I'd bet a large sum of money that all these amps would sound identical if you were to set them to a flat response. The MiBass is pretty flat, I'd say. It could have a slightly rolled off top end, but without measuring I couldn't swear to it. Doesn't the MarkBass have some built-in contour? The tone controls of the MiBass are really versatile. They're parametric with infinitely variable frequencies - similar to the Rebelhead 450. I'd be surprised if you couldn't dial in the MarkBass tone. I've compared the MiBass flat sound to the TC Electronics Classic 450 and prefer the former.
I'm just keen to get back what I had before, later this year, but with a bit more power. Running the LittleMark 250 flat into an Aggie GS112 got me exactly the tone I had in my head I know the simple thing would be to just buy a LittleMark III and 2 Aggie GS112s, but like I said, it would be nice to "buy british" and save a bob or two, as I want to buy new - by the way the Aggie prices are going, you'll probably be able to get 2 of their Mi12 cabs for the price of one GS112 when they come out... Eude
