Plus, it's technically an "Allparts Fender-Licensed" neck, so it may have even shipped with the decal on it for all we know...

Lightweight 5 String Build Options/Experience
Oops I stand corrected I never was any good with names He kindly got me some Ultalites for a very good price to, top man.
Aye, he's a good man! I took the liberty of asking the weight of the new J Type, apparently this one >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Available/22/ comes in at 8.25 lbs with the Gotoh tuners, so with Hipshots it'd be a cool 8 lbs on the nose Eude -
That is rather tastey I did see some of Andy's work at the London Bass Show a couple of weeks ago, quite stunning. I have a fretless being made for me (not an ACG) that's having one of his filter based eq's in it, looking forward to seeing how it sounds.
It's Alan at ACG by the way I've been watching your fretless build, it's looking great! Eude -
I'm quite into the custom build thing so will go down that route again as it means I get the spec I want.
Well if it's a definitely a custom, I can't recommend ACGs enough mate, and they've just started doing a new J-Type bass which might be up your street if you like a more traditional looking bass >> http://www.acguitars...k/Available/17/ Eude -
Swamp Ash I've obviously heard of but Limba is a new one on me, You have all put a smile on my face today as sub 8lbs would exceed what I hoped for.
Limba is a bit like Mahogany tonewise from what I've heard, although I'm not sure what a very lightweight piece would be like. I think you could also look at Spanish Cedar and Cherry too, but if you're into more "trad" sounding basses, I think Swamp Ash will be right up your street, either that or a chambered body made of more regular wood. 8 lbs is definitely possible, in fact I reckon it can be guaranteed if you go custom, but you might find something off the shelf that would be light enough, funkle on here had a love swamp ash Lakland 4 string that was easily sub 8 lbs in my opinion, think he moved it on a while ago though.
Thanks Eude, looks like you've got a stunner there and I'm amazed at that weight, I thought I was being optimistic hoping for sub 9lbs but it's obviously quite achievable. Swamp Ash could be the answer
Yeah man, some super light swamp ash will sort you right out! Mine would be a lot lighter if I had gone for a lighter neck material, and I guess without the single-cut shape you'd lose a little more weight too... Sub 8 lbs is definitely achievable. Lightweight Hipshot hardware will help you along the way too. One of Scoop's ACGs, his fretless 4 string Recurve >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/278/ is even lighter than my 5er, using some uber light limba, that's another possible wood I reckon? Swamp Ash mate, that's what you need. I'd give Alan at ACG a shout. My 5 string >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/72396-look-what-i-just-picked-up/ is well under 8 lbs, probably closer to 7, I'm barely aware I've got it on when I play it and it's got a Wenge neck! You're welcome to have a shot of it, but it's not going anywhere Eude -
I've said this before on another thread, but as for single-cuts - they remind me of sperm whales. Sea-bound mammals ahoy!
Ha ha, I hear you, but I still love them! I believe the first Skjold single cut shape was called a "Whaleback"... Eude
I (generally) like Warwicks. I own 3, so I should do. However, both the Vampyre AND the Dolphin are wrong (as shown is this thread) Why? Gold hardware on the Dolphin. It really should be black. The pick-ups. That's what's really wrong. What makes the Dolphin, Infinity, Vampyre and Fortress Masterman great is the pick-up complement; J/JJ. JJ in the case of the Fortress MM. Go up to 6 strings, and the MEC Js and JJs are too short, so out come the soapbars. Unless they're a single coil at the neck and a tappable parallel humbucker at the bridge, they'll sound somewhat different to their progenitors. I understand that others may feel differently, but this detail ruins it for me. And am I alone in finding the Vampyre ever so slightly vulgar? Maybe it's too loud, and I really am getting too old!
Yup, I loathe gold hardware, on any bass, it just looks cheap and nasty. Black would look so much better. I think you're right about the pickups too, bit of a cop out really. Especially as they now pretty fit any kind of pickups you want, albeit for a fee. These are show pieces for Musikmesse, so it really wouldn't have hurt all that much to pop in some Delanos or even some different MECs in there. Even if they couldn't match the exact Dolphin or Vampyre pickups they could've got close, or maybe just done something a bit different... Eude
From the Albert Hall site - Wednesday 4 April Sailing The Seas Of Cheese & Green Naugahyde performed in full Thursday 5 April 2 special sets spanning the entire catalogue Oh boy oh boy!
Excellent, very glad I went for the Thursday night! I love Sailing The Seas of Cheese a hell of a lot, but Pork Soda is definitely my favourite album, closely followed by The Brown Album, so there's every chance they'll play a little of both then. Nice. Eude
Don't like Dolphins. They don't even look like a dolphin. And they haven't got built in sonar. Or their own TV show. Nasty. You'll have someone's eye out with that...
I hear ya, but there is a kind of Dolphinesque elegance to the design, especially the old "Pro 2" which came in solid colours. This is just a little reminiscent of a Dolphin, right?... Eude
That is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL basses I have ever seen!
Unfortunately, I imagine it will also be one of the most expensive too... Eude

Oh my, they're doing a 6 string Vampyre now too! http://www.warwick.de/modules/custom_shop/NewsCustomShop.php?newsID=3651&modell=Vampyre&page=1&cl=EN One thing that always bugged me about some of the Warwick range was that would only do 4 and 5 string versions of their more exotic looking beasts. Looks like they're caught on Eude

Reckon it'll look cool mate

Perhaps a NEO speaker? They tend to produce a bit more mids than their ceramic cousins. The reason the GS cabs scoop the mids a bit at volume is to do with the cab design, from what I've heard, that sacrifices a bit of mids for the surprisingly huge low end extension. A NEO cab might be just the ticket though. Not tried it myself but I used to own a GS 112 back in the day... Eude

Well I never, See Tickets have just emailed me telling me my tickets have been dispatched... I didn't expect that, I was gearing up to furiously queue at the box office moments before the gig started, which tends to be the "See Tickets Way". Oh well, perhaps they've finally ironed out their business model... Eude

Nice work Rich! Looking forward to hearing it, in about a year probably... Eude
I've given up a jolly to lake Garda and a new hall carpet!
Sounds fair enough, carpets are for wimps and it's likely to be too hot around lake Garda anyway

So Rich, how does this sound compared to your big ass STD 104 HF? Would two of these be a match for it?... Eude
-
Not yet, will ring up later to find out the scores on the doors, luck dictates they will all land at once and my wife will spot that I've blown the holiday budget on on basses!
Good luck mate, for all the possible scenarios...

So.... Any news mate?....
-
D'oh! Just read the specs, yes it is. Hidden set neck though? Fancy bit of wood to hide the laminates?...
-
Quick question, is the bass set neck?
-
P.S. I had to pop the cushions behind the basses to allow a bit of contrast, I usually not a "soft furnishings" type of guy...
-
Hey guys, I popped these on my build thread but they should really be in here too... As you can see, my 2 go very nicely together... When I finally get a reasonable amount of time in daylight I'll get some proper shots of my ACGs, but hopefully these will do for now... Eude
