Wow mate, that'll be a really stunning instrument. I kinda see what you mean about the slight thumb bass comparison there too. Oh, and angling the pickups like that will certainly bring "the fatness" to your dub step playing Going to be a cracking instrument. I really hope it gives you everything you need to keep playing and stay healthy. Cheers, Eude
If they didn't sell enough it was only because they didn't manufacture enough. About 6 months ago or so when I was in the market for one I couldn't find a shop in the country that had any stock. They were all saying 'we should have some in 2 weeks', then it was going to be next month, come august there was still no stock. I bought a GK MB500 instead as there was no clear indication if and when anyone would have any stock delivered.

Likewise. I couldn't get a new one. My local shop gave me a 6 week wait. I eventually found a used one on ebay for nearly £200 off the retail price.
That's a real shame. I guess it's very hard to strike the balance between making enough to make a mark without wasting money if they fall on their arse. Seems they struck gold with the quality and price point, but didn't risk big enough to grab a real market share. You never know, something might be in the pipe for Summer Namm... Eude
Weird. I also think Markbass are off the pulse when it comes to the latest market. The new amp they have isn't really anything new and they are discontinuing the F1/F500!
Hmmm, that's a little silly! Perhaps they weren't that cost effective for them? I guess, they weren't actually that much smaller or lighter than the LittleMarks. Shame though, I really liked them. I agree with you though, the new amp is about 12 months too late, but I also think they're close to being able to trade on their name alone, much like the other big stalwarts of bass amplification, so if they don't push boundaries they'll still sell gear...
Well, it seems Ibanez have the new amp/combo listed next to the old one: http://www.ibanez.co...Promethean_Head http://www.ibanez.co...omethean_Combos Looks like perhaps they are an additional to the line...and they are cheaper: http://www.gak.co.uk...ean-p3115/56949 http://www.gak.co.uk...ean-p300h/56951 I don't understand it if they discontinue the existing line though.
Maybe they're marketing the newer kit to go up against the likes of the GK MB200, and leaving the previous models to continue to slug it out with the bigger boys? For the money, I can't fault the P500 kit, I really can't. It's right up there with it's competitors and undercuts most of them. I have to say though, I'm a little disappointed they didn't do anything a bit more exciting with the range, a bit of a refresh of the 500W model(s) would've been nice. Like I said above, a 12" cab and combo would've been very nice, if you've heard how much they can get out of a single 10", imagine what they could do with a 12"!... A cosmetic refersh is always nice too, however I still think the kit looks good. Maybe they'll do something for Summer Namm 2012?..... Eude

Gallien Krueger MB 200 - can't believe how good it sounds
eude replied to nottswarwick's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for your input guys! I've always been interested in GK gear, but only ever played through combos at gigs. I'll definitely check them out when my credit card finally burns a hole in my pocket! I'll be sure to check out some different combinations of heads/cabs too, the designer in me likes things to match up though One thing's for sure though, I'll certainly be going for a 2x12, or maybe 2 1x12s, love the sound of them 12s Cheers, Eude -
Can't say i've seen many issues with build quality of the MB heads, only the cabs. The three MB heads which I've used (I still have 2) were all absolutely spot on. But I would expect the QC to be tighter in-house
Yup, nothing but good things regarding the MB Heads and the NEO Cabs, just seems some of the MBE Cabs have been a little off. Having said that, perhaps folks are expecting far too much from what is basically a fairly budget range of cabs. I'm pretty much sold on a 212MBE Cab, as it's exactly what I had in my tiny mind, but wasn't aware of anyone who made one that I could afford. The tricky thing now is, what head should I get to go with it? Are these cabs best with a GK head? My favourite tone previously was a LittleMark 250 into an Aggie GS112, but I want a bigger, louder one cab solution, without gaining loads of weight or size. Would a LittleMark speak nicely through a GK cab, or would it be sensible to go for an MB500 or Fusion head?... I've got plenty of time to figure this all out of course. Perhaps I should go bother Mark at Bass Direct one afternoon. Eude -
I've just called DV247 and asked if they have a date for starting to sell this, they don't know about it at all... Not looking like it's gonna arrive here quickly. I want to buy it from a UK shop so if I don't like it it's not too expensive to post back...
Cheers for that mate, it's not the shipping back I'm concerned about, it's the possible warranty issues you can sometimes get into if you use a different PSU from the one that ships with it. I have heard that some amp manufacturers won't honour warranties if you cut the plug off an amp bought from mainland Eurpose and wire it up with a UK one... I can wait, have a few things I need to sell to justify the expense anyway Eude
I had the Ultra Fuzz for years and it was the best fuzz I had ever used on bass, but when I tried the SFX Micro Fuzz I sold the Zoom straight away Check it out, I don't get tired of recommending it. I wish I had a use for it in my current functions band It really nails the Death From Above 1979 sound to my ears, which is what I bought it for!
Interesting...

Cheers guys. I'm just interested in trying one out, but like Mike says, there's others out there. For what I've heard the Ultra Fuzz did some really nice BIG smooth fuzz sounds, which were almost synth-like, but I guess the B3 has plenty of synth effects going on, so I'm sure I'll find something in there Any news on when you can buy these in the UK? Holding out so I can get one with a proper plug... Eude
I've used the fuzz face sim which is the only fuzz sim on the B2.1u. I think it sounds good with some clean blended back in. Just interesting that they discountinued it and have omitted it from their multi effects... Eude

Do any of the Zoom products do a good version of the "Zoom Ultra Fuzz UF-01"? ( http://www.samsontech.com/zoom/products/guitar-effects/uf01/ ) I've never tried one, and they don't make them anymore, but it was meant to be a very VERY good fuzz, especially for bass... Eude
I've heard the price point is great, but some of them aren't made so well...bit of a gamble. BUT, I think thats part of why they have changed to manufacturing near their head office.
Cheers for the advice, just skimmed some fairly lenghty threads about the MBE range on Talkbass. Seems they have all the same drivers as the equivalent in the NEO range, but without the biamp facility (where appicalble), and the NEO has a high quality horn and crossover vs the piezo tweeter in the MBE. They're assembled using the same grade of ply, the NEOs built and braced for strength and the MBEs built for lightweight. You're right about the QC on the current models though, for every thread about how good the cabs are, there's several moaning about build problems and modding them, adding in acoustic wadding to deal with boominess, can't find a single complaint about the NEO cabs though, seems they're regarded as very high end kit I'll hang fire for the US made MBE cab, which suits me fine as it'll be a few months before I'll be in a position to do anything anyway... Cheers, Eude -
I doubt it will be much, and I think the quality will be much better. I like the look of dem MBE Cabs! I like them alot! I'm going to up my amp a little later this year, and was hoping to go for a very light upright 2x12 with a micro head. A 212MBE with an MB500 or a MB500 Fusion might be just the trick! Anyone tried the MBE Cabs? Are they up to task, or should I save up for a better cab? Eude -

I'm looking for a very specific production Jazz bass...
eude replied to funkle's topic in Bass Guitars
The Maruszczyk instruments are the main area of inquiry for me. The problem is, the more I look at their site the more customised I want to make the bass, and the price goes up. I've tried out a Yamaha TRB6P from the first series made (slightly shorter scale) to see how I might get on with an extended range instrument. I liked the extended range but found the scale still didn't suit me. Still, a worthwhile experiment. Easily one of the finest instruments I have laid hands on. I just keep on getting chicken when it comes to instruments that are customised or non-production. It's so much easier to sell a production instrument if there's something I don't like, and I'm still learning about what exactly it is I like in an instrument, even after all these years. I find it hard to think of parting with the money for a custom and getting it wrong. Doing a big band gig tonight with my Fender JB62-M, my medium scale (32") jazz, and every time I pick it up it just feels 'right'. It's absolutely great with the preamp (J-Retro) in there. No-one ever seems to notice in a band/gig context whether the scale length of the bass makes much odds, and it says 'Fender' on it so everyone is familiar/comfortable with that. I have found a 30" production 6 string for sale that I am discussing with the seller. Interesting, seems worth a try....http://www.rondomusic.com/hxb406natbshort.html Pete
Hey Pete, Had no idea the original TRBs had a shorter scale, sub 34"? I see what you mean with regards to your bass situation, it would be madness to go down a customised route if knowing you weren't entirely sure what you need/want. I personally have done that, maybe to a lesser degree as I've got along, and it's an expensive process. I've definitely settled on 33" these days, don't see me trying anything else now, if I could've justified keeping my ol' Shuker Jazz I would've but finances dictated otherwise, I'll be ordering a more old school styled 33" 4 string at some point again. If you're keen to try a shorter 6 string, then I would certainly give that Rondo Music one a go, not a huge gamble case wise, they get fairly favourable reviews over on Talkbass, and if you decided to sell, even on here, I reckon you'd get a few bites out of curiosity, me being one If you do get round to it, I think Maruszczyk would do you a 30" 6 string Jazz, so you might be able to sneak that past the other Jazzers Cheers, Eude -
