1.
I like the funky dance kind of stuff. Reckon that could sound wicked if you get the right musicians together. Id go for a female vocalist aswell.Think it would suit the music better. If nothing else itll be easier on the eye Think my favourite is bustin king cobra
Cheers mate I think a female vocalist would've been a good idea too, us bassists should be standing at the back anyway, perhaps behind the drummer... Eude
  2. Hey you lot, in prep for starting to look for a new band or project down here in London, I thought it'd be cool to whack up a load of recordings on Sound Cloud as a kinda folio. Thought it might be cool to share them with BassChat. Anyway, here goes... Early music, mainly with School pals (I've got some even earlier stuff, but I'm not sure I can share it, a little too embarrassing...) >> http://soundcloud.com/eudeboy/sets/early-music/ More recent tunes, from my time in Edinburgh >> http://soundcloud.com/eudeboy/sets/recent-work-1/ Finally, some funky stuff with a couple of signed artists (most of it's 70's car chase music) recorded over the last few years >> http://soundcloud.com/eudeboy/sets/electronica-dance/ Be gentle Hopefully I can get match fit again soon and start playing out and about, I do miss it. Ashdown MiBass
Happily build you a totally made in England MiBass but doubt on the whole people would want to pay the price difference, sadly that's what we are up against these days and to be honest after working with our china factory for 10 years now the quality of our Chinese made products is so good would you want to pay a large premium simply to have made in England on it? If you do want to buy British we still make plenty of high end totally made in Essex products and offer a total custom shop service too...
Thanks for the reply mate. I know it's hard to find any "affordable" UK made gear these days, as it happens though, Ashdown being a British company is British enough to be considered "Buying British" in my book. Everything bar the manufacturing is British Eude

    Ashdown MiBass
Probably the only thing on that amp that's British is the plug, and you can't even be sure of that nowadays.
Fair point...

Nice one Pete, thanks for chiming in. Hope to try one of these as soon as I can, would love to be able to "Buy British" Eude
  6.
A 5 string jag with coil tapped humbuckers rear routing 36inch scale. Cheers dood. Should be up that way in a couple of weeks. Will drop a pm when I know dates.
That sounds like a really cool spec mate! Jon will make you an awesome bass too
A clear satin lacquer over mahogany or walnut. Ebony fretboard and maple neck
Jon usually has some very nice American Black Walnut in stock, think that might catch you're eye Eude
  7.
Breaking news, four months wait for a bespoke order on a Sandberg VM5 maple fingerboard medium aged, block inlays. Deposit of 10% paid (£180) ordered this morning by this time next months I'll be able to pay the balance
Nice one mate Eude
  8. Yup, astonishingly nice and silly cheap too! They're even tempting me to try 34" scale again!... Eude
  9.
That's pretty freaking awesome.
Drop them an email, Adrian, the guy in their vids, is really friendly! Eude
  10. Looks like I might be in trouble now too... They're willing to do a 32" 6 string Jazz now! Eude
  11. I get on great with my Promethean mate It's a great for home use, small, light and flexible, and I've used it successfully on it's own on small gigs with a full drum kit and for on stage monitoring on larger gigs. The head gets a great write up on it's own too. It's a bit of a win - win in my opinion! Eude
  12.
20mm string spacing at the bridge, with a 50mm nut, same as my Curbows. Rightly or wrongly, that's just the size that feels like a "real" bass to me! (in honor of "Talk Like a Pirate Day").
Wow, I've gone for 16.5mm on my new 6er with a 52mm nut - I've found that smaller dimensions make things easier for a stocky little Scotsman like myself! You must be a big lad!
  13.
Indeed--a little finish, a bit of hardware and electronics, and she'll be ready to go! Too exciting! (Just got word from Alan that my special heavy, wide-*ss bridge arrive from Hipshot, so mine's not far off either...)
Wide-*ss? What the hell spacing you going for?..
  14.
Yeah, I have a series of depping gigs coming up over the next few months, all with the same band, so I'm hoping to give this an outing pretty much as soon as I get it. I've already decided that I'll be using the graft harlot 5 and the beech recurve 4 for most of the gigs but I'm really looking foreward to the opportunity to give this a run out.
Nice one matey. Sounds like a good plan! Can't be long now?.... Eude
  15.
I'm always thinking about ordering another bass. Being able to afford another bass is a different matter entirely...
I know the feeling mate, I have an "ACG Shopping List" with all my, hopefully, future basses all specced up in order of justifiability. Sad I know... Eude
  16.
Very nice indeed! It will be great to see that top on your bass. That also leaves the other piece of ziracote available for someone else's order, right?
I guess it might You thinking of ordering another bass soon?... Eude
  17. Quick update... Because of me being annoying, shifting the goal posts on this build, i.e. changing the body shape, the original piece of Ziracote was a little too small. Alan, ever the professional, has sourced another equally lovely piece and here it is!... Ooooo Yeah! Eude
  18. Wow, totally missed this thread... If you still ain't managed it yet, I'm in SW London, and I'd be more than happy to let you have a look at my bass, this one >> http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=72396 billyapple mentioned he'd like to have a go of one too over on the ACG Build Progress, so perhaps we can all meet up together. Cheers, Eude
  19.
Right I think I should put this here: Say hello to my Jon Shuker Jazz 5 Video first - slight volume problem, but I can't be bothered to deal with it until later. Spanish Joint by D'Angelo - I know that the timing is iffy at the start, due to my inability to lock into the rhythm! There is also some dodgy soloing around 4mins in. Don't judge me, I can't solo :haha:
Beautiful bass mate! What's the specs? Cracking playing too. Congrats! Eude
  20.
Yep, a good hour in Alan's wood-store with the white-spirit fumes filling the air... you'll have a whale of a time.
Yup, a lovely way to spend an afternoon, just let the effect of the white spirits fade before you drive home...
  21. That's beautiful mate! You must be getting pretty excited now... Eude
  22.
The basses seem to be really well priced though, has anyone played on of these? I could be tempted...
The main guy, Adrian, who I struck up a bit of an email conversation with, he's a friendly chap, said they'll likely be over next year for the London Bass Show. I'm going to suggest they try and get along for this year's Bass Day in Manchester too, will keep y'all posted on the reply Eude
  23.
Wow, I leave the house for while and a ton of replies! Thanks Eude for your suggestions. This 'Pubic Peace' company looks really interesting and are 'production' enough that getting a 5 string medium scale wouldn't cost the earth. I'll definitely be looking at them further! Thanks for all the help everybody, I've got loads to investigate now. Pete
No bother at all mate, happy to help. Being a fan of "shorter" scales myself, I genuinely hope you find the right instrument, those Public Peace guys seem to be on the money though, in more ways than one!
I'm really loving that Public gear stuff too. It's great to see a company that has such a clear vision, with a good consistent range of products. The whole, look, vibe and attention to detail are really nice. I now have major gas for a shortie jazz, and I'm very serious about getting one. It would be nice to own some decent gear for a change, instead of budget ones all the time, and these are well priced to me.
Go on mate, you know you want to
  24.
The basses seem to be really well priced though, has anyone played on of these? I could be tempted...
I've never played one, but I've been watching the range expand and the whole operation become a lot slicker over the last couple of years. There's a load of video content on the site and all the kit looks and sounds top notch! I'd be seriously tempted if I had any spare cash kicking about. Perhaps once my terrific honeymoon credit card mauling has been paid off. Would love a little Jazz Bass Shorty... Eude
  25. Pete, took the liberty of emailing Public Peace about this. Here's their response... "hello, thanks. Yes, we can build one, no problem. a standard elwood 5 passive medium would be cost about 900,-€ and we need 6 weeks for build this instrument greetings adrian" Tempted?... Eude
