6.
The Matamp 212 in Jim's post (first post) used to be mine, unfortunately my Terror never even got to see it, but it now has Jim's beautiful GS112nt cabs for company. Also the Matamp cab deserved the AD200b. I think the Orange/Aguilar combo looks smart as hell, its much smaller than my previous Zoot 210/115 rig and easier to transport than the Matamp 212 (as its 2 separate cabs)
Man that looks PIMP! What a cool combination! I miss my little GS112, always dreamed of having 2. Maybe one day... Eude

  9.
A budget option would be Picato nickels - very nice strings for the cash. They are not quite as bouncy as Sunbeams, but sound warm and balanced. Made in South Wales and can be had on-line for a tenner. Expensive option is R.Cocco nickels - very, very similar feel and slightly brighter sound when new. Just as pricey as DR, but better prices from Thomann (as ever).
I've just taken delivery of some Nickel Picatos for my Shuker. Although I'm not really playing the Shuker much at the moment, it's got some heavy-ass Rotosound Nickels on there which aren't really my bag, far too stiff, so I thought why not try out these guys and a lighter gauge too, for s**ts and giggles. The customer service with these guys is incredible! Almost immediate response to my emails, paid for the strings Friday afternoon and they arrived at my office on Saturday! This was for a custom gauge Nickel 6 string set, £19 all in including postage! As a long time DR Nickel fan-boy, I'll give you lot my opinion once I've messed around with them. Cheers for now! Eude
It's a v cool looking bass you have, with the grain on the body I'm getting it should look pretty spectacular.
Yeah, the finish really brings out the grain on the Ash. The ash in particular on my bass is crazy light, the body is substantially lighter than the all wenge neck! The bass can't be much more than 7 lbs, at least, that's what it weighs on our crappy bathroom scales. It feels half the weight of my Shuker! Eude
Im looking forward to it, just something a little different and we all know it will be good, also a v reasonable price, I hadn't really considered the "dirty ash" finish until scrolling through the build progress pages and finding a single cut with it, that one looks seriously nice so I thought what the hell!
He he, that's my single cut

Very nice dude! The PB Pickup is a new one on me, several "firsts" in this bass. I'll be watching this one closely Eude
  14.
Nah, I hardly ever post over there, just lurk. I reckon the last time I posted over there was a wanted post for a Gibson Victory Artist bass, funnily enough
I bet some folks would be pretty dang interested though, perhaps a compressed diary thread. Your call of course, but I'd be shouting from the roof tops about that bass. I'd never heard of one before that day you showed me the one you where drooling over on ebay, that was arguably mint condition and gorgeous, but this is so much more special Eude
  15. Wow Matt, that looks absolutely incredible! Hats off to both you and Rich, incredible work. (Tip for your printing, best use a high quality photo printer if you can get your hands on one and set it to over print black, oh and if you set the fill to C=100%, M=100%, Y=100% and K=100% in Illustrator, or whatever you're using, that should help a lot too. God I'm a geek... ) Eude
  16. Exciting! Man, you'll have to give up your job, just to play all yer basses! Eude
  17. Man this bass is going to rock! Can't wait to see the finished item Eude
  18.
I really do want to have a proper listen to a prometheon, I still have a bit of a mental block about them being Ibanez in my head - even after all the good reviews!
It felt like a bit of a shot in the dark for me when I got mine, especially when moving from a tried and tested MarkBass-Aguilar setup, however it was the only thing that was in my price range that had everything I needed at the size I required. At the end of the day, you can always return stuff if it's not what you expected. I have to say though, the Promethean gear is really high quality, I admit i was very pleasantly surprised at just how solid the little combo is Eude
Shamelessly nicked from Talkbass, here's the new tilt-back cab... which can also be ordered as a combo: I like the idea of the combo for bigger gigs...
Glad to see they've not come out with anything too radically different, hate having out of date gear Eude
  20. Aye, thought you'd like them Eude
  21.
erm. haven't violins and standups always had heavily radiused boards?
Indeed they have. I meant that radiused boards on guitars, classical guitars, at least ones that more recently predate leccy guitars, where flat, and the radiused boards came along not long after. Eude
  22.
I suppose I should revisit my nylon strung guitar and have a think about how the flat board relates to hand position...
If something's comfy, brilliant, if it's not, try something else Have you got a flat board on any of your basses then? Eude
  23. Personally, I'm a flat fingerboard convert. My Shuker 6 string has a 20" radius and my newer ACG 5 string is flat. I'm so impressed with how the flat board feels, I don't think I'll ever change from that now. You can of course get marginally lower action, but I guess you can close with most well thought out necks. I'm not sure how it'll work with a shallow/thin neck, as it would very much feel like a plank of wood as you say, but with an asymmetrical neck shape it feels right. Also, on a extended range bass, it certainly makes sense, as it brings the lower register strings closer to your fingers. I've played a fair few flat 4 strings too and they felt fine, really comfy, however having played 5 and 6 string basses for so long with my tiny wee hands, pretty much anything with 4 strings feels like putting on nicest comfiest slippers in the world to me now, regardless of the spec. Another thing to consider is that radiused boards only came about to make chord shapes, predominantly bar chords, more comfortable to play, so at least initially, it wasn't really relevant for bass, depending on how you play, or what you're used to. I guess it's just one of those marmite things. Eude
  24.
Did the musicmasters/Mustangs not have a 6 pole Pup out of the Tele or strat?? Or did I dream that
The Mustang had it's own baby Precision style pickup, the Musicmaster, I ain't sure as it was under a plastic case hiding the pole pieces, but I'm pretty sure the cheapy Squier Bronco ships with a strat pickup, which is usually the first thing to go when folks start modding.
I don't really notice any difference switching between my 35" scale 5 string and my other 34" basses.
Body design and the location of the bridge can make a huge difference to that. Have a look at the RIM basses with the fancy fishtail bout, that moves the bridge to almost behind the bass body, which in turn moves the nut closer to the player. I've had a shot on a various 35 and 36 inch basses and the biggest stretch I can remember was on a 35 inch Spector, felt like a 40 inch scale because of the bridge location! Just my 2p Oh and Jon will make you an awesome bass, regardless of the specs. My other 2p Eude
