Pretty please?
Yeah man, I'll try and do something, having to borrow and beg tools for the moment though and have no proper space to work in... I'll be gluing up the headstock veneer this week, then I'll be leaving it till I get down to London beginning of September. Luckily, my Fiance has a work bench, some tool etc. and if necessary, her dah has a proper work shop full of spoke shaves, files etc. I see some horrific hand injuries in the next few months! It's a shame I didn't take photos of the process when I did the actual build years ago, pre-digital cameras though... Eude
  2.
Ah, the 6-string fretless? Eeeeexcellent.
Indeed Alan has very generously been giving me some advice on how to finish it off properly, I built it about 14 years ago, strung it up to test it and ended up playing it for about 3 years, so it never got finished properly. I'm going to put on a nice headstock cap, a wooden scratch plate, a proper recessed control plate on the back, epoxy the raw wenge fingerboard, possibly replace the bridge with some chrome monorails if I can find them cheap enough, give the whole thing a good oiling and a proper set up. I have heard you can't polish a jobby, but I'm going to roll this one in glitter Eude
  3.
You lucky, lucky bugger! Glad to hear it. I'd love to see the body in the flesh. The pictures never quite have enough resolution to make out the grain very well. But the big question is... what were you doing down at Alan's? Do I smell a new build coming on? Anyway, just got this from Alan last night. Holy crap, it's a whole neck: Admittedly, it's not carved yet, but we're getting there.
Yeah man, it's going to be a lovely bass, the wood always looks so much better in real life though Afraid I wasn't speccing anything up, unfortunately, bit of discussion about a few exciting things for further down the line, once I've moved and got a new job..., but Alan was helping me out with my my "project" which I think you spotted in my Promethean thread a few weeks ago Eude
  4. Hey dude, saw the component parts of your bass on Sunday last week. It's going to be loverly Eude

Really really sad news. I'd never met Si but we'd talked a hell of a lot on here and by P.M. and considered him at least a "virtual friend". His huge contribution and wit will be sorely missed on here and my thoughts go out to everyone left behind. Rest In Peace Si. Eude
  6. gaf - it does sound faulty to me, not an oddle of hiss from my amp, even at pretty serious volume, get it sent back Well did my first proper gig with the little Promethean last night and it totally rocked! It was in one of the Spiegeltents as part of a "Fringe" event to the Edinburgh Festival. Crowd of about 100 people, unfortunately in a space that would've easily held 250/300, but a great test for it. I used the amp to feed the PA via the DI (had to use the -20db switch as it was breaking the desk ), and used the combo for on stage monitoring for the whole band, so the bass wasn't through the stage monitors at all, quite a contrived but a very specific test. I was competing with a full drum kit which was mic'd up, two vocalists and an electric guitar going through a Fender 2X12 which was also mic'd up and through the PA. Very pleased to tell you The Promethean passed with flying colours! Everyone could hear the bass very clearly on stage, the tilt back feature and the middy nature of a 10" speaker really gave my sound a lot of presence, but man it throws out a lot of lows at volume too. The best bit was the sound guy asking me to turn the stage volume down as it messing with the PA and it was pointing across the stage, not out front! I also managed to lug everything, bass, amp, effects and stand, in one go over a half a mile walk, without dying, to the venue as it was right on the harbour and there was nowhere to park my little Fabia anywhere near! All in, I'm very very happy. Eude
  7. I've really not noticed much hiss at all, however I don't use much of the EQ section or Vibe Control, just a bit of bass boost and I'm good to go. Got my first proper test for the little combo today for a Festival gig, planning on using it to feed the PA and as my onstage monitor, will let you know how I get on. Cheers, Eude
  8. Wow! That is amazing! More info please... Eude

  13.
Funnily enough, I was thinking of doing just that. You read my mind.
I'd give this little guy a go >> http://www.mackie.com/products/srm350v2/ We use the 12" unpowered versions of these as part of our PA setup for pub gigs and they're awesome! They tilt back on their side like a wedge too, which is a nice feature... Eude
  14. I can vouch for the Promethean Range. The little 10" combo I have is incredible considering the sound, so I'd be quietly confident that the 10" extension cab would be just as good, I'm still incredibly and pleasantly surprised by the build quality too! There's a bit more "real world" info here, not much though >> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=603591 Here's some more little cabs for the mix too... 15.
Oh, and kudos to Alan for having the flexibility to accommodate these changes through the build. It's an organic process, dahling. I've edited the OP to show the changes to the original spec.
Alan's a true gent and a pleasure to work with I imagine he'd be less happy about the pickup change if he'd already routed the holes for your original pickups Really like the spec though. Eude
  16. Looking good dude! Good luck on the big day too! We're planning ours for early next year, it's scary stuff isn't it Eude
  17.
Cheers! It's just a shame flats sound so boring out-of-context....
I dunno dude, I think it sounded really cool, nice bit of growl, and that's through my bloody MacBook speakers! I'm currently resurrecting a 6 string fretless I built a long long time ago, was thinking about putting half rounds on it, but I might go flat now
  18. Sounds like you're getting the tone you want out of it dude. Very nice
  19.
but you could replace a standard nut 16 times over with the price of it! Sorry. I think it's a great idea, but not worth £80.
Fair point dude
  20.
You take a spare 6-string fretless neck to gigs? Is it for battering off the hordes of unruly ladies who want a piece of bass-player action?
I wish dude, however I'm sure the fiancé is more than capable of battering them on my behalf, what with her jiu-jitsu and all... The fretless neck is a wee sneak peek for a thread to come soon Eude
  21. http://www.rondomusic.com/ursa2mn63ts.html Got to hand it to those guys at Rondo, they really seem to be able to tune into what people want! Shame they do short production runs, as they did a cool 30" scale 6 string bass a while back which I missed out on Now if they did a 30" 6 string Jazz, Jaguar or maybe even a Precision, that would rock! Shame about the ugly head stocks they had to change to after pressure from "Uncle Fender" though... Cheers, Eude
  22. Just so you know, the Promethean killed last night! Easily overpowered a 4 piece drum kit, and 2 vocals and acoustic guitar going through a PA. This will handle pub gigs no bother at all. The thing has a hell of a lot of bass extension for a crazy small box too, not quite as much as the Aguilar GS112, but a similarly surprising effect! Eude
  23. Well if someone had told me that I could feasibly go to a gig carrying only this >> I would've told them their brain was in wrong. First proper practice with my little Promethean tonight and it was amazing! It easily overpowered a 4 piece drum kit and a PA with two vocals and an acoustic guitar going through it. It's no metal set up, but I now know this little amp will be more than enough for any acoustic'y pub gigs. I've got a festival gig in the 11th in one of the Spiegeltents, which will be acoustic and electric, so I'm going to use the Promethean to feed the PA and as a stage monitor. More to come... I'm one happy Eude though! Eude
  24. Excellent dude Glad it's all working out so far. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the little fella. I've got a rehearsal with my "jaunty dad rock" band tonight, acoustic guitar and 2 vocals all through the PA with full drum kit throw in. Not a full on "war volume" test, but will give a good idea of "pub gig" use, plus it'll be nice to get it past annoying the neighbours volume levels! Got a smallish festival gig on the 11th of August too, I intend to use my little Promethean as my stage monitor and DI out to the desk for front of house stuff. Eude
  25.
Nup, still lost. You can file a nut appropriately to get different height?
That you can, but you can't "un-file" a nut. The Just-a-nut means you can lower and raise the night to your hearts content without ever having to replace it... Eude
