1.
It's definitely in the old-school side! More so than the TC? Maybe. This really suprised me. I ran both amps flat (whatever that means in reality!) and they were definitely in the same ballpark...
Cool man. I'm resigned to bedroom playing for the foreseeable, having moved to London, so no big gigs at the mo. I'm still in my Edinburgh band, but gigging is going to be very sparse just now. Getting married next year, so once that's done, I'll look for something more regular down here, "South of the River". Can't wait to get the Promethean plugged into something with a but more speaker surface area. It's great that the very same amp is perfect for bedroom practice with headphones though isn't it Eude
2.
Quick update... I too the Promethean head out of the combo and ran it alongside my RH450 through a BFB Compact over the weekend, switching back and forth between songs. What a great little head... it was a slightly different flavour to the RH450, but I just couldn't choose between them. What a bargain...
Glad to hear it's still working well for you mate. Would you say the Promethean is a little more old school in character? Is to my ears, certainly not very hi-fi. Cheers, Eude
3.
I think the bass should speak for itself, brand name or not. Just got to make sure it gets into peoples hands.
Well if I end up in the market for a Jazz Bass-esque instrument I'll be looking at Farida first for sure, not a lot of people have shouted about them yet, but the ones who have know what they're talking about when it comes to Jazzes Do you know what price this one will be coming in at yet? Eude
4.
Couple of questions, I'll presume judging by the price they're coming from america, so how much did you have to pay in import duties and stuff? Also, can you possibly stick some pics up of yours inside and out? Cheers, Dave
Hey Dave, I can't recall the exact figures now, but it ended up costing about £135 all in, but at the time the dollar was pretty weak. Dave Perry on here recently ordered one, so you might be able to get a better estimate from him. The bags are paid for in the states and made in South America, can't recall exactly where though. You'll have to be patient with me RE pics I'm afraid, I'm not home during daylight hours at the moment, so getting a decent pic will be tough. Here's a pics of some of my gear to get started though >> http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=904935 It's in the back there. For more pics and info, there's some stuff on talkbass >> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php...amp;postcount=3 and Probag used to make the bags for Low End too >> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...ighlight=probag - exactly the same stuff... Will try to sort out pics when I can. Eude
5. As far as mass appeal goes mate, I'd leave the ramp idea well alone. I'm sure it would put off more people than it would attract. Folks who like ramps are usually no strangers to modding or custom basses, so putting one on wouldn't be a problem, however if having one on the bass effected the overall aesthetic when it was removed, some more traditionalists would look elsewhere. I personally think the bass looks amazing as it is, and I really think it could be a bit of a Squier/MIM Fender killer. Going for a satin neck would be sensible if it was possible, as although this thing looks far better than it's competition, it'd probably be sensible for it to feel a little more familiar, as you don't often get a gloss neck with a Fenderesque bass. Just my 2p Eude
6.
Woohoo! Body waxed. The finish is finished so-to-speak Pre-amp and assembly here we come.
HOT DAMN!
7. That looks awesome dude! Eude
8.
cheers for the link eude, they look quite sweet to be honest!
No bother at all matey. They do custom work and they have standard sizes and shapes too. Really really impressed with the workmanship. The zips on the pockets are a little puny, but you could ask them to use the same as they do on the main bit, I will when I order my next one. The quality of leather is amazing, nothing subtle or delicate about it, just big slabs of very thick material, never seen anything like it, perfect for protecting your bass Eude
9. Top work mate! Looking great, quite an adventurous build going neck through, but looks like you've broken the back of the work in 2 days! I'd love to do this course sometime soon, if time and money will ever allow! My fiance did a wood turning course down at the same place recently, some real nice places to stay round there, and several good watering holes too! I'd love to build a nice simple shortscale at some point... Eude
10. Silly Small!
11. http://probag-net.com/ Got mine from there, really really pleased with it
12. This is awesome dude, how'd you get on board with a project like this, you in the the business? Really intrigued by these Farida's, they get a proper good write up from everyone, and I for one really like the Jaguaresqe lower horn. Can't wait to see how this pans out. Top work fella Eude
13. That is freakin' tiny! Eude
14. Keep coming back to perv over your collection mate, your black Jazz in particular! Awesome And your new holly topped beast is gorgeous too, you're a lucky man. Eude
15. Have you spotted this?... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry900797 I know it's over budget, but the extra £150 is worth it for the preamp alone never mind the fact it's a hand made bass! I've played that particular bass and if it'd been 33" scale I'd have been all over it! Cheers, Eude
16. Hey mate, did you ever get this bass?... Eude
17. That looks brilliant mate. Looks like it'll be a race to the finish, which bass will win? Eude
18. Great review mate. Glad the bass has found another happy home. One of the nicest single cuts out there Eude
19. You're getting good at this Rich. Top work! Eude

24.
I find them pretty soft under finger but the sound is by no means soft. I originally went from mediums to light to try and reduce friction as I have sensitive little fingers Through my search the Overwaters were the smoothest feeling of all of them. There is great string tension, but the way they are wound just works so well, almost like they are coated... But they aren't. OW strings are one of those things in the bass world that I don't understand as to why everyone doesn't use them. Cost & performance to me nothing comes close.
Sold I'll definitely give them a go next then dude, may as well pop some on the Shuker too, as I'm going to try and give it a proper set up, get the action a lot lower, like me ACG. Now lets get back to drooling at that bass </sidetrack> Eude
25.
Tonally I find the Overwaters very similar to DR Black Beauties (which would look awesome on the Marseer) which a good friend of mine swears by. I have never tried the Low Riders so would not wantto comment. I find them quite bright and good in the upper mids. I tried so many brands I lost track until 2 years ago when I took a punt on a set of Overwaters and have never used anything since. Plus the price in a 6 string set is sooooooo reasonable!
Thanks for that dude! Yeah, the pricing is very keen. How about feel, are they softer than usual or are they tight? As far as I recall, most of the DR strings are slightly easier going, used to use Hi-Beams a long time ago when I "played" 6 string fretless Eude
