1.
Being this close <-> to pulling the trigger on the Promethenentheanananthean, I'm intrigued by these. But then, with it being Carvin, it's probably less of a bargain by the time it gets to this side of the pond.
Well with these being Carvin I reckon it'll defo be $ = £, but even at that I think these will be pretty darned good value! More updates on the Promethean to come dude, will keep you posted as soon as there's more to report Eude
 2. Just bought myself an Ibanez Promethean combo, which I'm extremely happy with, but as usual, a suitable alternative comes along just after I've pulled the trigger! http://www.carvinguitars.com/bassamps/microbass.php What do you lot reckon? I've heard mixed views on the micro Carvin heads, but you can't argue with the bang for buck factor... No UK prices yet, but I'm sure as is commonplace, $ = £ with most cool bass stuff that's built in the US I love the look of that little MB10 combo, but I'm still chuffed with my Promethean, as it's smaller and louder The custom colours are a really cool addition I reckon. Cheers, Eude
 3.
Any further thoughts fella?
Hey Derren, not had much time to play unfortunately Down at my folks this weekend so I popped it in the bag and popped it in the boot of the car. Fitted perfectly, nice and easy to shift too. Wouldn't want to carry it for a few miles, but a lot more manageable than the last set up, which I managed about a mile on foot with, along with my bass on my back too. Still real chuffed, hoping to give it a blast at my folks, as they have a detached house vs my 1st floor flat, should manage a bit more volume. Hopefully I'll get to whip it out at a band practice next week though! Eude
 4.
Cheers mate. I'll be painting the headstock black, and I will be getting a decal. Also going to have bowtie inlays on the 'board.
Sounds good matey! Looking forward to seeing it all done!
 5.
OK, Gold or Black hardware?
BLACK! Gold just looks tacky to my eye, on pretty much all basses. I'd also see if you can get the headstock painted to match and design yourself up some nice graphics for it. There's loads of places that custom print vinyl or waterslide decals on line... Eude
 6.
No they didn't charge me for it - I just had to pay for postage....
Great customer service there. Hats off to Ashdown Eude
 7.
no im definetly sticking with the rounds Ewan. mainly so you can give me some more direction in slapping next time we meet checked your Shuker page as well matey. how long have you been with them?
Shucks dude, I bet you'll be playing rings round me next time we meet! I've been playing my Shuker about 4 years now I guess, was July 2006 when I took delivery of it, man that seems a long long time ago, I wasn't even in my 30's back then... Eude
 8.
check this regarding the flats or rounds on a stingray http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA_KrCDjbV4
Finger style sounds real nice with the flats, I'm actually quite surprised, thought that would choke the "classic stingray sound", but I stand corrected. Slapping on the flats sounded like ass though, which is not a surprise... Still prefer the rounds myself though Eude
 9. Please take me off the list, not sure where exactly in the UK I'm going to be over the next few months, so I don't want to cause a blip in this cab's progress around the country. Maybe next time... Eude
 10.
Neck width doesn't bother me too much (and I've got fairly small hands), and neither does string spacing at the nut, but neck profile does. The depth and shape of the back of the neck makes a big difference to me. The most comfortable neck I've tried so far is the ACG asymmetrical profile. Quite chunky on the bass side, but much slimmer under the thinner strings. The "wedge" shape helps to keep the thumb a bit straighter, so everything feels just a bit more... "natural". For want of a better word. It just feels "right". Weirdest profile I've tried... Warwickhunt had a black Zon (I forget the model... maybe a Sonus?) with a neck that was essentially flat on the back, top to bottom, like a wood batten (except, presumably, graphite or composite ). Genuinely odd. I'd like to think I could adapt pretty easily to any neck, but that one would probably take a good while. EDIT: It was indeed a Sonus. Looking at the light reflected on the back of the neck, it's obvious that it wasn't completely flat. Very shallow, but not flat. But by 'eck it felt it. Odd.
I've got little hands, wombat claws if you will, and I'm the same with regards to neck width, pretty much anything is cool, nut width can be a little bit of a stretch on 6 strings and up however. This is probably down to learning "proper technique" early on though, like Rich described. I agree, the issue I think that contributes to comfort is the neck depth, which I struggled a little with my ol' Warwick. As far as 4 string bass necks are concerned though, I think they all play amazingly easy as I've pretty much played 5 and 6 string basses for years. +1 for asymmetrical neck profiles too, best of both worlds... ...and back to the original thread - lovely looking bass there Steve! I personally would stick on some nice roundwound nickels to really bring out that MM growl, would be a nice contrast to the noises the others from your herd make... Cheers, Eude
 11.
I think 'rays sound frickin awesome with rounds, in fact they're probably integral to their punchy sound. Unless you are intentionally aiming for a specific sound I can't see the point in trying flats.
+1
 12. Black Black Black - All Black! Can't get the pics of the mint condition one you showed me on ebay out of my heid, it won't look right unless it's black now... Eude
 13.
I am a tad confused! Which RockBass did you strip, I have not seen a RockBass with MM/J
This one I believe >> http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/...-Bass-Black/9M5 Eude
 14. OK First impressions! This thing is small, very very small! Deceptively heavy but still very light considering everything that's in the box The tone of the amp is great flat, pretty neutral, not quite the same as running my old LittleMark250 and Aguilar GS112 flat, bit less weight, but the thing is about half the size, so that is understandable! The EQ section of the amp is pretty straightforward, gain, mute button - switchable remotely, bass and treble controls, with a graphic EQ section for tweaking, which is also switchable remotely, vibe control, which i'll cover in a minute, and volume. The vibe control is a bit like a mix of the VLF and VLE filters on the MarkBass gear, all the way left emulates an old school amp i.e. less treble - more thump, all the way to the right, more bass - mid cut - and added sizzle. This feature is also switchable remotely too. Just a note, you can buy a foot switch to control all these "switchable" functions, not necessary for me the now, but I'll consider it for later on. The headphone out sounds very very nice and gave me the opportunity to rediscover the flexibility of the pre in my ACG, lots of fun without annoying my noisy idiot neighbours, think I'll do most of my noodling at volume tomorrow, that'll learn them I've not had a chance to test this at war volume, but it can kick out a fair bit of weight, especially if you dial in some bass! I should get in a band practice either this week or next. So far, I'm a very happy Eude More to follow soon...
 15. Gosh! That looks brilliant mate! Eude
 16.
So it's you that's got that rucksack on - take it off and put it on the floor!
Whoops, sorry....
 17.
I can actuall take my full rig on the tube 2x10, 1x15 and LM, bass on back.. It makes a city gig alot cheaper for me
I bet you're popular when you do that... I get evils just for wearing a rucksack on the blinkin' tube in London! Eude
 18. It's here No sign of the man bag or leather strap I ordered with it, but I'm very very excited... Will post thoughts as they occur to me, once I get it home. Eude
 19. Aggie 12s all the way mate! To my ear, the GS range are a bit more aggressive with a fuller low end and slightly mid shy at volume, the DB range are a little warmer and trad sounding, but still aggressive but in a more middy kinda way. My preference is the GS112 though, would love 2 of the buggers and a 500W amp, the perfect set up, loud enough for most things but also modular and compact. I used to have just one but I've had to downsize for now When the time comes round again though, I doubt I'll look anywhere else... Eude
 20.
You'll have to be quick - I'm picking it up today
YAY! Pics Pics Pics, once you've exhausted yourself playing that is... Eude

 22.
You notice there are no names on them? That means Alan's making some stock basses. Wallets at the ready, people.
I wish my wallet was deep enough...
