Nickel Lo-Riders are my strings of choice now, having been through a fair ol' few over the years, including all of DR's range. They're bright enough without being harsh. The seem to add a lovely warmth and a bit of grunt when you dig in. Just lovely lovely strings and the really seem to make my basses and more importantly my playing sound better SunBeams are real nice too, but a little more subtle, would be my second choice though. SS Lo-Riders aren't too bad either. As far as I'm concerned all DR strings are worth the extra cash, they last at least 2 or 3 times as long for me compared to common or garden varieties...
I almost always run through my pedalboard, and the EBS MicroBassII on there has a headphone out (and you can run audio in through the FX loop), so Mrs Endian's happy without me even firing up an amp.
Ah, you obviously have a plethora of gear then I don't have a whole lot, so getting an "all in one" will be most useful and take up less room too, again pleasing the other half... I love the look of the little TC Electronics 12" cab, in different circumstances I might have gone for something like that and kept my LittleMark250, but unfortunately, circumstances have dictated that I really need to downsize as much as possible while still having something usable for real gigs... Hope the shoulder gets better soon mate! Cheers, Eude
Also, the Prometheaneneannean will take an iPod in. Handy for rehearsals, innit!
Plus it has a headphone out - handy for keeping the other half happy too

I should add, the above was for crowds of up to about 100 folks too...
Ta for the info, Derren. Quick question - I know this is probably pushing the laws of physics given the combo's size, but how do you think the combo alone would cope with a fairly low-volume band rehearsal, or an acoustic-ish open mic night with a quiet drummer?
I've played a load of gigs like that, including ones with the drummer mic'd up and through a small PA with the Vocals and Guitars. I used to use an Aguilar GS112 and LittleMark 250 (150W at 8 Ohms) and never got the volume past 9 o'clock, so I'm absolutely positive the little Promethean will hold it's own in a similar set up. I'll be able to give you some real world feedback on this soon, got an acoustic gig in a festival in August where I'll be using this little bad boy. Might have something sooner than that too, but I'll keep y'all posted Eude
I've also been chatting with 'GeoffByrne' about this very same combo too. It would appear that it's now getting a lot more attention which it rightly deserves.
I think a lot of folks might have had a bit of brand snobbery to start off with, Ibanez make cracking guitars and basses, however they do predominantly appeal to metalers. Ibanez's previous experience of amps has been pretty small and budget so I guess they've found it hard to shake off that stigma when lauching their "pro level" kit. I have to say, I have been pretty cautious too, I had my eye on this stuff as soon as the first press release came out, but I made sure to hold back and read up on the reliability etc. before making my purchase, which I do so with every confidence now Eude
You'll love the combo mate. I find it to be a very versatile and practical unit at a fantastic price point. The fact that the head is removable is a real bonus and is what sold it for me. I find I don't need to use the EQ much as it's quite a clean amp, so a good bass will shine through it. The features such as mute, selectable EQ and vibe settings means you can have a variety of tone options 'on tap' easily just with the flick of a switch. The 'man-bag' is very useful and very well made and makes for a nice complete package. I personally feel it could do with some grab handles on the side as you can only lift it with the long strap. A bit awkward in and out of deep boot spaces, but that is a minor gripe. Overall a nice compact and useable unit for small venue gigs, stick an extension speaker on and you're rocking I've had a MB CMD112P in the past and the Promethean is slightly heavier but in the same size range. The Promethean is also built like a tank and does remind me a lot of the earlier SWR Working Pro combos. Everything about the unit feels well made and well thought out, and I think this is reflected in Ibanez's long history of successful guitar making etc. They'll obviously listened to what consumers want and have made it.
Thanks for that Derren I can't bloomin wait!...
I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it...
Yeah, I'll be sure to pop a proper review up once I've spent some time with it.
Wouldn't mind trying it against my CMD112P
If I could've stretched to it, I probably would've gone for a MarkBass 12" combo, but they're way out of my price range Would be nice if MarkBass came out with a 10" combo, along the lines of their acoustic range, instead of those weird 6" driver amps... Thankfully, the Ibanez is as powerful, on paper, a fair bit lighter and more compact, and it sounds a bit MarkBass'y. Eude
Nah, I'm only pulling your leg! I like that ACG shape, if I ever get another one (and I'm tempted) I'd get this shape, no doubt. D.
Aye, it's a loverly shape, it was between this and the Skelf SC, this one won out this time, but the next will probably be the Skelf...
Nice, very very nice. I'm a big fan of single p/up basses. Of course the big question is (if we can ask that is) how much? PS Yes, photoshop is your friend:)
Hey man, glad you like it I love single pickups too, this one came out of the fact I only ever use the front pickup on my Shuker. It couldn't have turned out better! As far as cost is concerned, best speak to Alan at ACG, he's a proper magic guy to deal with and his basses are surprisingly reasonable Cheers, Eude

Spurred on by all these "basses in the garden" shots, I did a quick photo shoot with my basses at the weekend at my folks' house. I'll upload the lot in the right place when I pull the finger out, but here's a sneak preview... Man oh man I'm so freakin' happy with this bass Eude
He was having e-mail problems 7 years ago. I think it's more he's a technophobe than anything else
He gets a load of SPAM as his email address is just sat there plain as day on his website, it ain't SPAM protected in any way, so he gets 100s of unsolicited emails daily. As a result of that, his Junk Mail filter is set uber high which means he quite often misses emails, as they get accidentally junked. I did explain to him how to fix it, but he's obviously not had the time, but it'd save him a lot of time in the long run!... Eude
I caught this, and I thought his bass tone was awesome!
Yup, was most impressed with that guy too Gotta love those little Fender basses too, another one for the GAS list... I've tried to do hi-hat and bass drum along with bass before and it's not very easy, clearly a talented guy, or he has two brains or something Eude

Update... Mini Rig - SOLD. Posting out today and tomorrow, once it's all arrive and folks are happy, I'll be ordering me my very own little Promethean Combo. Can't freakin' wait, although I'll have to, as Thomann won't have it in stock till the 1st of July, still don't have any more gigs till the 11th of August, but how the hell am I going to annoy my neighbours in the meantime...
Thankyou for your input guys Ordered the Promethean 2 days ago when it was in stock, just checked my account now and it says out of stock and not coming back in until the 1st of next month I had to cancel my order since i am moving house on the 28th
Boo That's pants, guess that's what comes with ordering from over the pond, thankfully I won't be in quite as much of a hurry. You'll get yourself sorted dude, "patience Danielsan..." Will keep you posted on how I get on with mine when I order it. Cheers, Eude

Excellent comparison Owain. I really found that the playing position shifts a good couple of inches to the right even on Scoop's 34" Skelf (Lazerus). The kinda reverse shape of the Skelf SC makes it a very comfortable bass to play, for shorter "wombat-like" individuals like myself, or maybe even someone who wants to go for a 35", or even a 36" without the added stretch and resultant horrible wrist angle. Very nearly went for the Skelf SC for my bass, but I was seduced by the Finn SC. My next ACG will almost certainly be a Skelf though Eude
