  1. I've always found tone stacks frustrating and confusing, I personally feel that they are irrelevant these days thanks to more modern active eqs. With a tone stack, as long as you're happy with your tone form the bass and amp, it's doesn't matter, but if you need to do a bit more tone sculpting, I'd bet most folks end up using a preamp pedal. Even if you have a PHD in tone stacks, you're still working with extremely limited tools.
  2. So no spiritual successor to the Trace Twin Valve?...
  3. Well that's a bit tasty!
  4. I think they got lost purely because they were a little heavy compared to the Class D offering in it's big brother. There's also a difference between the MAG power supply and the ABM, which is actually quite audible, I think the RM220 had the MAG PSU. If Ashdown could make a head the size of two of the RM ones on top of each other with the ABM power supply, I think they would do well.
  5. It would, especially if they could make it look like this!
  6. I was meaning the Class D modules. I had a MiBass 2.0, which sounded lovely, but lacked the power of more recent Class D amps from Ashdown and other manufacturers, even ones rated to be lower in output. The ABM NEO 400 had the very same Class D power supply. The 1000 is a very different beastie though. I also think some of the ABM EVO3s fell through the gaps as a result of them being made overseas unlike most of the other versions of the ABM, might have just been a bad batch? I'd love to see a mini ABM, in a lunchbox format, something along the lines of an Orange Terror Bass, but I imagine it would need to be a lot bigger for the heat sinks and air flow purposes, especially with a proper old school lump of iron power supply. I doubt that Ashdown would be willing to lose any of the features of the ABM for this kind of thing, as technically, it would no longer be an ABM if you start messing with the recipe...
  7. Yup, both @Merton and I have been on Mark's back about this for a long while now. It's not something they're keen to do sadly. I know there was an ABM NEO a while back but that wasn't much smaller and had one of the older, not so good class D power stages, things have come a long way since then. I really think a downsized ABM with a compact but old school solid state power stage would sell so so well...
  8. That is absolutely stunning mate! You must be delighted! Congratulations, and have a good gig! Eude
  9. I think the only really unique thing in the marketplace here is that they are pushing the environmental angle, which is certainly a big plus in my book. Lightweight cabs, nothing new, however if they can build them better than GR, they score a point. Naming convention akin to the madness of how Chinese firms name their armies of mobile phones? Lose a point. The rest is just hot air. They do make good stuff, and I wish them all the best, I just felt after such a build up, things fell a bit short.

  12. Loads of options out there, I've got a Rockboard and I just stuck the power supply to the underside with velcro >> Total self promotion here, but I have a Rockboard PSU for sale that would do the trick nicely, has all the cables and stuff you need too. >> It has 8 x 9V outputs and 2 x 18V, and fits very nicely under any of the Rockboards
  13. I think folks will pay what they can for things, much like cars. Things are worth what they're worth to their target market. I am surprised that Jaydee don't charge more though...
  14. I loved that design, nearly bought a 5 string one in the late 90's, ended up with a Warwick Thumb BO 5 instead though... Something like this... I never saw that mad pink one though, gorgeous!
  15. He certainly only plays the Status stuff live from what I've seen, he does have a lot of other basses too though
  16. Looking at the dimensions, these guys do a classical guitar bag that is long enough internally for a Fender Mustang Bass >> https://www.protectionracket.com/products/guitar-cases/item/classical-guitar-case-standard possibly a little too deep though.
  17. TGI do not make short scale bass bags, regardless of what Bass Direct tell you They only make guitar and full scale bass bags, if your short scale bass has a minuscule headstock, or even better, is headless, it will fit in a TGI guitar bag though...
  18. That's a tricky one, there's very little out there. Bags made for offset Fender guitars, Jags and Jazzmasters tend to fit pretty well though, I know Gator do one.
  19. Colour me interested!
  20. As a player of 5 and 6 string basses with 31.5" scale, I can wholeheartedly say that scale length is only part of the puzzle, doing the other bits well can make the effect of scale length fade away. I play ACG basses almost exclusively, but @Andyjr1515 took a huge 6 string bass I built myself and brought it back to life with a 31.5" scale neck to replace the 36" one I'd foolishly gone for. The low B on that is lovely too. In isolation, the low B on a 35" or 36" is always going to be better, assuming the bass has been built properly with considered material choice and decent construction, but in almost every other context, you'll be glad you went for a shorter scale 😎
  21. Percy plays Ibanez basses now, and he doesn't sound any worse, just saying...
  22. There has been mention of a class D Handbox on their site for some time, does anyone have any experience of it?
  23. I think it's safer to say, "heavy wood sounds like this", "hard wood sounds like this" etcs. In my experience, I know I like the sound of a heavier body, with a hard top and fingerboard, in a bolt-on flavour.
