Beer o'clock is calling my friend.....
I have no issues turning up for beer o'clock, it's my favourite time of the day, it's just not so easy to call it a night once things get started. Guess we'll see how things pan out on Saturday night... Eude

Just found the this thread! I'll most certainly be there for the full shindig. I'll have my Shuker 6 string and my terribly nice new ACG 5 string with me, both 33" scale. I'll also have my mini rig, MarkBass LittleMark 250 and Aguilar GS112, and a modded Dod 250 and Boss AW3.
and tired.... and hungover
Man, that Sunday last year was one of the worst hangovers of 2009! I have every intention of behaving myself this time round, but as usual I can't make any promises...
Phew so that why I had a sore arse the next day. I though it was Ewan's overzealous spooning.
You wheren't complaining at the time Rich Wonder if the 3 of us will get the cottage again, that was a good laugh! See you all soon! Eude
It might have been more interesting to give the job to a designer instead of a guitar maker to see what would happen (I'm reminded of the Ned Steinberger story).
I know where you're coming from, involving designers from outside the musical instrument field can produce some interesting results - the Musicman Bongo was a collaboration with BMW as far as I recall, and from what I've heard, the majority of folks who actually get their hands on them are very enthusiastic about the results. One thing to consider though, is the fact that Musicman has an enormous corporate backing, which I'm sure could sell "the emperor's new bass" to some folks if they wanted to. I don't think Overwater are doing anything wrong here, they're sticking, roughly, to what's made them a success. I'm going to reserve judgment till I see the final models. Regardless though, I wish them all the best with the new venture. Eude
I really want to post mine! But it feels a bit wrong doing so before I have given John any money, although getting some feedback from other BC'ers on my idea could be useful
You can always set it up as a "Discussion" thread...
Thanks Eude! Ill have a look BTW, a few people on here would gladly chat for a long time about how nice 2 x GS112s are...one is nice, but two....two is the sweet spot...same as the 2 x DB112.
No bother mate I know that adding a 2nd GS112 is the sensible thing to do, as I get away with a single GS112 the majority of the time. It's just GAS, hoping it'll pass Eude

Found a bit on pricing for LDS cabs here too >> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php...p;postcount=629 Obviously they'll go by the exchange rate unlike the more established companies that like to rip us off good and proper compared to the prices in the US... Have you thought about these guys?... Low Down Sound >> http://www.lowdownsound.com There's a tonne of info on them over on TalkBass >> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=452230 One of their cabs, a 3 way with 12" + 6" + tweeter here just looks sublime >> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php...amp;postcount=6 They make very nice custom efforts and don't mind dealing with us folks over the pond. I have heard that £ for £ they're very reasonable and are willing to make anything you can dream up, within reason. I know this through my own experience... Before I ended up with my Aggie GS112, I was talking to LDS about a very custom cab: 3 way cab like the above, with a 12", 6" and tweeter at 4 ohms. Sub 40lbs in weight. Pretty much a cube in shape, but with a slice off it to allow the cab to be tilted upright. Dark Camo Tolex and Vintage finishing, i.e. chrome bits and a silver face grill cloth. Pretty wild specs and I would've probably ended up regretting the camo finish, but nothing seems to be too much for them. Unfortunately, I couldn't stretch to the cost of a custom cab at the time, think it was about £500 all in, but don't quote me, and ended up going with the GS112, which has been brilliant, but I wish it just a had a little bit more. I've just put myself in a dilemma now, do I save up for another GS112, or do I just sell mine and go for a "one cab fits all" effort, oh no what have I done... Good luck with your search anyway man, I'll keeping an eye on this theard Eude
+1 on the DR Sunbeams, they are my absolute favourite string(i have them on my jazz), a little bit of zing initialy but wears off fairly quickly leaving a nice warm but very clear sound, just perfect, i used D,addario XL,s for years and you cant beat them on cost/tone as they are very good but as yo say quite bright and harsh compared to the sunbeams, i currently have fatbeams on my 5 string and they are very warm and smooth for steels, not much bightness at all really, i was very surprised, i am very tempted to try the lo rider nickels after the earlier post, although i remember trying the steel lo riders and not liking them at all. Anyway its all subjective and a very expensive learning curve finding "your" string, good luck with the quest
I'm really digging the Nickel LoRiders, they just a have a bit more of an edge than the SunBeams, with quite a mid range growl to them, but without the harshness you get with Steel strings. I also tried the Steel LoRiders, and although I liked them, they wheren't warm enough. I'd say they're pretty close to the D'addario XLs, but slightly less harsh and lat a lot longer One thing to note, the LoRiders, Nickel and SS, are a little tighter in feel than the SunBeams too. Cheers, Eude -
DR Sunbeams... not cheap but after the initial freshness has gone they last for ages, so can be as cost affective as cheapies.
+1 Sunbeams are great strings, reckon they'll suit you down to the ground and they last I personally like a bit more snap, but not too much, so I go with DR's Nickel LoRiders these days.
Wow £27.60......yeah not cheap, but if they last twice as long as £14 strings then i'm happy. Are these silk wrapped on the ends? Anyone got any words of advice as far as gauges go? I want the tension to be low. I usually use whatever has the 100-gauge E. Can be anywhere from light to medium. Whats the deal with cloth wrapped strings?
As far as gauges go, SunBeams are a little softer than other Nickel strings I've played, so I reckon if you go with your regular gauge you'll be pleasantly surprised. Also, you can buy them from the states via ebay a lot cheaper. I usually buy from this seller >> http://shop.ebay.com/bassspecialties/m.htm...from=&_ipg= Silk windings won't have any impact on your string's sound, they're purely cosmetic and to stop the exposed string end scratching your bass. The only bit of the string that has an impact on the sound is the bit between the two break angles/points, the bridge saddle and the nut. Cheers, Eude -
cheers fellas, I'm starting to get very excited about picking it up tomorrow
Can't beat a new bass day There's something very satisfying in actually collecting it personally too, then driving home with your car filled with that new bass smell You'll know what I mean tomorrow, Alan's basses smell amazing when new, I think Scoop went on about that too, I think Alan said it's Teak Oil...
I tested the Bass Terror and it's filthy! In a good way...if you like some tubey gain the Terror is perfect. There is a great F1 comparison video here by talkbass amp/cab expert Kjung: http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F...p;v=-eUrmYZlSnY If you want crisp clear bass, giving you masses of volume in a tiny well made package, I cannot see many amps that come close. Some of them do state more wattage, but markbass, and recently TC, are probably the only amp companies making micros that are honest with ratings. Personally, I love the little mark 2/3. Slightly warmer, still precise and clear, very loud. I still want an f1 though.
Thanks man! Link didn't work, but I found the right one >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eUrmYZlSnY Very useful and now I'm even more convinced I should be sticking with MarkBass and getting an F1... Cheers, Eude
I don't think a bass terror will produce the desired effects there... they're very valvey from what i've heard, quite warm, not at all transparent! Ashdown amps don't tend to be as transparent as markbass gear either, luckily i love the sounds my ashdown makes, so it's all good.

The Bass Terror is too warm and dirty I think for this. A good amp for the money but its more of a rockers/blues amp. Transparent, crisp and clear = Markbass F1 or LM2/3.
Thanks guys, kind of what I expected. I run a pretty hot output too, so I guess I'd struggle to get a clean sound at all out of the Terror then. F1 it is I reckon then, unless OutToPlayJazz comes along with some wise words about the LittleGiant... Cheers, Eude
Awww, so cute On a serious note - How is that little giant?
+1 Yup, interested to hear your opinions too. I'm looking to move up from my LittleMark250 to something with more wattage, but it needs to sound good, or at least be very transparent, and be cheap. Currently thinking about a Terror Bass, or perhaps a MB F1 if I can get one cheap enough, but hadn't considered the Little Giant... Cheers, Eude

Another great cable from Dave! Was worried that having making a point of having good quality cables for my bass, I couldn't vouch for the quality of the XLR leads used to hook up from my DI to the recording desk/audio interface. Quick email to Dave and he put together a high quality Starquad Audio Cable with rock solid Neutrik XLR connectors. Should do the trick Thanks again mate! Eude
