3. You lucky B! I've seen this bass in various stages through it's build and it's an absolute beaut and that was even before it had hardware! Pics soon dude, but for now, get off the internet and play that dang bass Eude
  4.
Okay, the first thing I should say is I HAVE THE NEW BASS IN MY POSSESSION! But as the light is fading fast and I'd rather wait 'till tomorrow to take some proper shots and give some first impressions of the instrument ....and I'm too busy playing it anyway...and the kids are howling for their Tesco pizza and cucumber slices....I thought I'd bring you the promised pictures of Mike soldering away with his iron and shielding the inside cavity instead. You all love this stuff (I'm told!) :lol
You're a terrible tease bud! Glad you've got the bass though, can't wait to see the proper pics. Enjoy, Eude

  7. I think they're "licensed by Delano", as in they're OEM model by Delano made specifically for Sandberg. They all used to come with Delano branded pickups, changed about a year ago with no drop in price, so I'd assume they're the same pickups in slightly different housings, or perhaps wound to custom specs? I also think having the lower part of the P pickup further towards the neck would help to fatten up the D & G strings, just my 2p anyway Cheers, Eude
Oh! Nice Freudian slip there, Dood (I assume - or do you really, really love it?) So .. what is the difference? More "bridge" sound from the E and A or more neck from the D and G? Sandberg do them all that way round which looks very strange on their classic look California sunburst jobbie. Also are those Delano pickups on the Sandburgs? They have that same big single pole thing but the website says they are Sandburg pickups.
8. Reckon your first option would work out best. I know the single pole piece jazz pickups will be more like a Jazz Bass on steroids, rather than a classic one. Simon's Single Cut which he mentioned earlier in the thread might have just the setup you need. (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39830&hl=shuker+porn) Cheers, Eude
  9.
Maybe 3eq humbucker, switch to passive which makes the humbucker single coil and seperate nob for ballance + tone when its a jazz? that way I could pre set the bass up and wouldnt have to twiddle between songs much. or am I being crazy? im not sure whats possible with EQ so ill leave it to you guys to rip me to bits about it and tell me why im wrong.
Hey man, there's a load of options out there. But I'd be tempted to keep the pickup selection separate from the EQ. Your idea with the switchable MM to single coil and a single coil up front would work fine, with a passive vol, pan and tone, then have an active EQ which you could turn on and off. This would give you your active Ray sound with a passive J Bass sound, but still give you the option of running the J Bass sound active and the Ray sound passive, if you want to. Cheers, Eude
  10.
id kick myself if I didnt ask this, what if I wanted an active jazz tone?
Hey bud, I'm pretty sure you can just set the pickup with a separate switch to choose the coils, rather than linking it into an active passive switch. You could then add that to a 3 band EQ, and active/passive switch and a passive tone control, but you'd end up with a hell of a lot of controls, might be pricey all in too... Cheers, Eude
F**K! Eude! come on man, ive just been looking at the shuker site looking at what I some day could afford/want. then the first thing I look at in gear porn is pretty much exactly what ive just been specking up for myself, id want a full maple neck though. Mate, tell me where you live and the next time your out Edit: The Jazz bass btw.
Hey man, It's a pretty sweet bass, even if I do say so myself. I'm very very happy with it, especially now the ACG pre is in too. It's become my main gigging/rehearsal bass, keeping my 6er, my pride and joy, nice and safe for home and studio use, at least for now. No point in telling you where I live, as the bass tends to come with me most places... If you're ever in or around Edinburgh though bud, give me a shout, more than happy to let you have a go. Cheers, Eude
  13. Gorgeous mate! That bass is giving me serious GAS! Eude
  14. Yup, fully agree with everyone's comments above. Want to just say enormous thanks to Alan (Skelf) for going to such an effort to organise this bash, I hope that this goes on to be a regular event and that the poor turn out doesn't spoil things. The venue was perfect and those who turned up where all incredibly sound guys and brilliant players who all brought a wealth of basses and other equipment to try out. Was a real pleasure to meet you all, great to put real names and faces to the usernames on basschat and even awesome to get my hands on so many different basses in one afternoon - all the way from a 1 string to a 12 string! Even had a shot of a very fine G**tar that Alan made too. Spose, everyone who didn't comes' loss was very much our gain. Plus I got off lightly and didn't have to perform probably the scariest gig I could ever think of - in front of an audience made up almost entirely of bass players! Cheers guys and lets make the next one even better! Eude
  15.
I'm guessing here but there might be a few other basses there to play, if your's don't make it I'll even let you play one of mine for a second or two...
A go on my Shukers for a go of your ACGs? Eude
  16. Looking forward to this little shindig See y'all soon! Eude

Right, got my ACG preamp in and it's absolutely amazing! Very confident I can dial in a nice aggressive burpy low mid tone no problem. I've also changed from Nickel to Stainless Steel strings for a bit more of an edge, D'Addario Pro Steels to be precise and they're very very nice I had considered putting this one out to pasture, but not now, very very happy with it. Cheers, Eude
  19.
After a coupla decades on RS66 (and, occasionally, Warwick Reds) I am currentl running D'addario Pro Steels. Seriously, give 'em a go. Good VFM, too!
The Nexus strings are off. The finish started flaking quite badly over the frets which makes me think they're no different to the spacers which where pulled a while ago. The strings are coated, but not coated enough obviously... Got some of those Pro Steels on now, very nice too Cheers, Eude
  20. OK guys, I had the ACG preamp installed in the Pub Bass and it's woken it up! The limitations of the vol/vol/tone controls have gone and I now have a bewildering range of options. As a result of this, this bass has been withdrawn from sale. Thanks for your interest though. Cheers, Eude
  21.
The up to date prices are here... Rich.
I did not need to see that! I thought a 6 string headless Original King Bass Std. with a bendwell would've not only been the stuff of a mad man's dreams but ludicrously expensive! It's terrifying to think that it'd only be £1695! I know it's a lot, but it's a lot of bass for that kind of money... Ooo errr... Eude
  22.
How are they doing?
Hey guys, the strings are OK, but not a revelation. The tension is a little too soft I think, I thought they where a lot like Sunbeams, but they're a little softer. They're not super bright, very nickel(y) but they're very even tone wise across the strings. They look awesome, but the finish has chipped away, albeit only slightly on one string, incidentally after I played them with a plectrum. They haven't changed at all brightness-wise since they've been on, and they've survived 2 practices and 2 gigs, which is quite impressive. Overall, they're alright but I'm going to go for something a bit brighter when they eventually wear out, might try the DR Black Beauties... Good buy if you like the sound of nickel strings and soft string tension, oh and they do look very very cool Cheers, Eude

And I checked out ten storeys high tonite, I love fragile and dysfunctional, some great stuff going on there. As for serial numbers, Jon numbered mine one and two, now if I could remember which one is which!!!!. :-)
Thanks Wiz! Glad you like the tunes too! obbm's feedback

Just got some cables from Dave. Fantastic sounding and looking! These are replacing my BassMonster cables and there's basically no difference, think they might even look cooler Great price and really fast service, will be buying some more soon, very soon. Thanks Dave!
  25. I'll happily vouch for Nectar3 (Aly). He's recently joined my band on Keyboards/Geetar and is a really sound bloke. I can also vouch for this bass, I had a good shot of it last week at rehearsal and it's an absolute peach! It's in perfect nic and gets that wonderful classic Stingray sound straight off the bat. Cheers, Eude
