1. Absolutely gorgeous mate! Baby Doodle is a corker! Eude
  2.
Ah, this is a shame. Now, a 33" jazz 4 is exactly what I want - I'm loving my 33" Shuker 5. However, I just bought a Moon 4 and Edinburgh is quite far away...I shall watch this thread with interest. Good luck!
Hey Mike, still a little undecided, we'll see how the ACG Pre goes, should come next week sometime, I think. If I do end up parting with the bass though, I am in London for the weekend a fair bit so I could meet there, or near there with the bass to let anyone try it out. Cheers, Eude
  3. Pic fixed now guys. Something had gone weird with my hosting. Jon, not totally set on selling yet, but it's a possibility. I just wish I was rich enough to shelve this bass for the right occasion, and orde something more suitable... Cheers, Eude
  4. Hey guys, still not close to being decided on this. I just want to see if there might be any interested folks out there. I got this bass to use as my gigging instrument to save me worrying about my 6 string Shuker in and around seedier venues... I opted to go for something very different sound-wise to contrast nicely with my 6 string and provide me with a bigger tonal palette for recording, however my ear always leans back to a more grunty, low mid rangey, aggressive sound, ala MusicMan, and I can't really get anything close to that on this bass without relying heavily on the EQ of my amp. I am giving the bass one last chance however. I'm fitting an ACG preamp ASAP, this might fix the problem, however if it doesn't this bass will be up for sale, with or without the ACG preamp to fund another more suitable custom. I've also found that I'm missing my low B string a fair bit too, more than I thought I would Once again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the bass at all, it's a brilliant instrument, but it's not quite meeting my needs. It's very lightweight, a breeze to play and provides a really nice range of warm, dark vintage tones, unfortunately I need something more modern, burpy and aggressive. It's in absolutely perfect condition, only a few months old and has only been gigged 3 times and would come with a Gator hard case. I will not be looking for trades, as I now know I need something very specific to me, so it's unlikely that anyone has anything suitable... Here's the spec >> Downsized J Bass shape, Slab Finished Black Walnut body with Black Wet Look Gloss finish and matching headstock 33" Scale 5 piece Mahogany/Wenge neck with graphite rods, 22 frets and Rosewood Fingerboard EMG JV pickups and electronics with vol /vol /tone control layout More pics here >> http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39571 PM me if you're interested or have any questions. 5.
Received an email from Jon last night. The body has been routed, shaped and is ready to accept the neck. The neck is cut and routed to shape ready for the fretboard. Once the fretboard is on the neck can be glued into the body. I've been told that I shall receive some photos tomorrow. Glee
Wow! That's quick mate! Good news though, can't wait to see 'em pics! Eude
  6. Whynot - Awesome looking bass dude, shame it's the wrong way round Quick question, how close a sound can you get to a proper Musicman Stingray with the MM pickup? I played a Stingray 5 for the first time tonight and I think I'm in love... Cheers, Eude
  7.
I'm in. It's the 19th from 11.00, right? Pete
I believe so dude. I'll have my 33" Shukers for you to finally have a go of too Cheers, Eude

    My Shukers
Loving your Pub bass, stunning, how long did you wait for it? What aspects of the bass are unique to you / your request I received my Shuker JJ Burnel signature bass 3 weeks ago, 8 months wait but worth the wait, it's all powerful!, a growler, the finish is perfect. The only special request I had was making my daughters birth date the serial number. Jon Shuker is a master craftsman, a topper of a guy too.
Hey man, the bass took about 10 months, quite a bit longer than Jon originally quoted, however, in the grand scheme of things, not that long compared to other builders, certainly luthiers from overseas... There's quite a lot about the pub bass that is unique to me. The Scale length is 33", the body has a slab finish, i.e. less contours like an old school P Bass, the woods involved are a bit unusual for a Jazz Style Bass too, American Black Walnut for the body with a 5 piece Mahogany/Wenge neck, as I wanted to have something that would contrast nicely with the bright aggressive tone of six string. The electronics and pickups where to also help with the contrast, but as I mentioned before, the vol/vol/tone setup that came with the EMGs just doesn't do enough for me, so it's getting an ACG preamp Not entirely sure if either of mine have a serial number, where is yours?... You'll need to post some pics of your bass on here dude, I'm sure there's a load of people who'd like to see it! I see you're from Aberdeen, do you reckon you'll be abe to make the Scotland/North of England Bass Bash in Moffat? I'll be bringing along both my Shukers which people are more than welcome to have a go on. Cheers, Eude

    My Shukers

The Pub Bass will be getting an ACG preamp next month, which I'm very excited about The standard vol/vol/tone that came with the EMG set just isn't cutting it, struggling to get anything close to "my sound" and I don't like to rely on my amp for tone. If it all goes well, which I'm sure it will, I imagine I might be dropping one into the 6er too - watch this space... Cheers, Eude

    My Shukers
Ohh ... if you're not going fretless then you have to work on that angle ... even if anodising isn't the answer. I wasn't just talking about looks as it happens .... fretless and unlined is my kind of bass, and LaBella black tapes have just become my favourite kind of string.
I've fitted some new Rotosound Nexus strings, which are nice and black, so I've nearly got the look you mention above... Cheers, Eude
  14. Right, strings are on and so far so good. Not had an enormous amount of playing time yet, but I'm pretty impressed. They're not quite as bright as I thought they would be, but they are very thick and punchy, quite aggressive sounding. The coating doesn't feel weird at all, in fact they feel like regular strings. String tension, I'd say is a little softer than average, bit like DR Sunbeams, but they feel nice. I'm afraid I can't comment on the longevity yet, obviously, but I will in due course. Can't really comment on how they compare to other coated strings either, as I've never tried any others, but I have heard that some brands can feel a bit slippery, the Nexus strings feel pretty much normal as I mentioned before which was a nice surprise. Got a practice on Wednesday and a gig on Friday, so I'll spill a bit more once I've had more proper playing time with them. Oh one negative point, they have multicoloured silks on them, a different colour each string which kinda spoils the black evil look I was hoping for... Cheers, Eude
  15. They arrived today. Should have time to get them on my Shuker tonight Eude
  16. I just ordered some today. I'll hopefully get them on the bass before the end of the working week. I only paid £25 including postage off ebay by the way. Watch this space... Eude
  17.
Same dimensions as the Compact but a few lbs heavier due to the added midrange speaker and crossover. Will completely and utterly flatten every other 1x12" you can buy and even many 4x10"s! Should have the first one done some time in May. Alex
Very excited about this one... Eude
  18. Looking awesome dude! Well worth the wait? Eude
  19.
OK update. Now the post-coital glow has subsided, I've decided that even though the bass might have a little settling in to do, I'm not all that happy with the sound of the Delano SBC's. I'm not saying there's anything necessarily wrong with them but I wanted warm pickups and these babies just aren't delivering. The bass doesn't sound solid enough to me. In fact the only time I've had a satisfactory sound out of the pickups is when I've recentred the mid sweep as low as possible and boosted both the mids and bass to the maximum on the bass. Then it started to sound quite nice. I've spoken to Jon about it and discussed the possibility of Andy at Wizard rewinding the neck pickup to give the bass more oomph. There's also too much mid scoop in the sound when both pickups are on (perhaps because the pickups are so similar in voicing) so I'm hoping that tweaking the neck pickup might reduce the scoopy character a little more. I'm also aware that the Shuker preamp is only being fed by 9v at the moment, because Jon didn't have enough space to put the other 9v battery. Normally I might feel a bit guilty about being demanding but after waiting this long for it, I feel like I have a right to satisfaction. Jon said he's going to talk to both Wizard and also to Newtone about some custom PSD strings for the bass while we wait for the piezo saddles to be redesigned with larger transducers so better string contact is possible.
I was about to ask you how you where getting on with the Delanos mate, sorry to hear they're not quite your thing. Jon's pre is pretty transparent when set flat, so getting the pickups right should be your first point of call. Maybe some custom made pickups by the Wizard might be the way to go, I reckon some overwound Jazz style pickups would match up very nicely with the pre. I think the 18V option does make a difference too though. With my six string, I just solo the front pickup, notch the bass up a bit, and back the treble off slightly and it sounds huge! That is with EMG DC's though... Newtone will definitely be able to hook you up with anything you want string-wise too. Keep us posted Eude
  20.
That is gorgeous. Great choice of everything. I must get along to Jon Shuker's to have a look and a play. I've got until January 2010 to choose a fretted IV for my 50th birthday - anyone know what the typical wait is for a Shuker?
I think the wait can vary, but I'd allow about 12 months(ish) to be safe. If you let Jon know you have a big deadline on it, like your 50th, I'm sure he'd make the extra effort to make sure you get it in time Cheers, Eude
  21. Wow Kiwi, that bass is amazing! Well worth the wait I bet. I really wish you hadn't posted these photos though, I had finally got my headless 6 string GAS out of my system and now it's back with avengeance! Congrats dude - enjoy it! Eude

    THE GAS THREAD

Holy Crap - that is gorgeous! I've seen Adamovic stuff before and it always looked nice, but never really stood out from the pack, but that thing's given me a semi Eude
  23. I've got a Mark Bass LittleMark 250 and an Aguilar GS112 and it's surprisingly loud, but I wish I could've got the grown up LittleMark. The Mark Bass head is very transparent, to my ears. I have two quite different sounding basses and their voices speak very clearly through this set up. I believe the Aguilar DB range have a thicker, more low mid range sound and look a bit cooler, but I can't really complain about the GS range at all, plenty of bass considering it's just a wee 12" speaker! Cheers, Eude
