1. Hey guys, I've spent a wee while playing the bass now and I'm over the moon! Here's a few bad photos, I'll hopefully get some pics of it in use from our gig on Sunday night... Like I mentioned before, it's incredibly small lightweight, but I 'spose I am used to playing a 6 string single cut. The body feels great on and the neck is really fast and easy to get around. Yet again Jon has nailed the sounds I asked for in this bass. Lots of low mid grunt and growl as usual, but with a bit more of a classic dark warm sound to it. It can do the classic 60's scooped Jazz Bass sound and it also manages to do a pretty decent Precision Bass impression with the front pickup soloed. It will never be as versatile as my Single Cut, but that was never part of the plan anyway, it does exactly what it says on the tin, so I'm pretty darned chuffed. Bear in mind, all I've managed to play the bass through so far is my little sis's Peavey 8" Bass Combo, so when I get this thing through my Aguilar cab and eventually a P.A. its going to be scary! Only one con, I'd originally spec'd a Brass Nut, and it arrived with a plastic one, not sure this was due to a Jon's choice because he thougt it'd be better for the desired sounds, or maybe it was a wee mistake thanks to me rushing Jon to get it out the door, that said though, I am very happy with the sound, so although I know it'd be very easy to ammend, I reckon I'll leave it for now. More soon... Hope everyone is having a good Christmas! Eude
  2. Yay! I got the bass! It got delivered yesterday to my parents, and it took until now before I could get to it. It's so sexy, lightweight and plays like a dream. Have yet to plug it in though, as everyone is in bed, but I'll get that donr tomorrow. Some pics and a proper review soon! Cheers, Eude
  3.
Try the Lo rider nickel, they're a bit stiffer than the sunbeams, they have a hexagonal core instead of a round core. You may have to order them, I got mine from Mark at Bassdirect.
Thanks mate, I'll give them a go. Cheers, Eude
  4.
I'd love to see a mini vertically stacked 2x12 Vintage when the Eminence 3012s are released...
Me too! However, a 4 ohm 12" with a mid range speaker would probably be perfect, with a vintage grill cloth or course Eude
  5.
Sorry, I ended up using them myself.
No bother mate. How do you rate them? I'm currently using some DR Steel Low Riders, but I'm definitely more of a Nickel guy, I love Sun Beams, although they're maybe a little too soft on a 33" scale, and I've used some SIT ones which where pretty good and a lot cheaper, but I'm really interested in the Fodera strings, a lot of folks seem to like them. Cheers, Eude

  7.
No I didn't mate, sorry. I only had 45mins there and couldn't really hang around.
No bother mate, just thought I'd ask. I asked Jon for a finished photo, but it's getting delivered tomorrow morning, so no point bothering now. Back on topic, your headless bass is making me GAS so damned hard for a headless 6er of my own, I think I might have to stop checking this thread till I can afford a deposit!... Cheers, Eude
  8. Right, just like Bassmonster's the bass is being picked up today and delivered tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, I have to have it delivered to my parents' house so I won't get my mitts on it till Wednesday night, still at least it'll be before Christmas! Nearly there... Eude
  9. Don't suppose you clocked an all black Jazz Bass while you where there did you?... Cheers, Eude
  10. Holy Crap! That is Gorgeous! Nice one Kiwi! Eude
  11. Hey man, that bass looks amazing, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait! Mine is arriving on Tuesday too, but at my folks as I mentioned, so I won't get mine till Wednesday night. Looks like we'll both be having a nice Christmas after all... Cheers, Eude
  12.
Logo: Alex
Very nice Alex, looks very pro. I take it, it's going to sit on the top left of the face? Eude
  13.
These are top quality bass strings used by Matt Garrison, and all sorts of people like that. The gauges are 125, 105, 85, 65, 45, 30. They came by mistake, I'd ordered stainless steel, I'm not a fan of nickel strings so I've never used these. £30 including postage.
Hey man, just stumbled across this post having searched in Google for Fodera Strings... Are these still available? If so, would you be willing to put them on hold till I get paid, on the 29th? Cheers, Eude
  14.
Can't wait to see the pics of this! Pete
Yup, neither can I. We'll need to sort out an opportunity for you to have a go of it to in the new year. Hope you're well! Eude
  15.
another update, got an email from Jon last night to say he still had the LED switch to fit!, but expects the bass to be shipped on monday, and i SHOULD receive it tues, i am also expecting a pic, the first since august!, Eude looks like i was right about the discount thing
Yup, you're bang on. I've arranged to have it picked up Monday and delivered Tuesday too. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to have it delivered to ME on Tuesday, so it's going to my folks' place... I was going to drive down for Christmas on the Wednesday via Glasgow to get my sis, but I think I'll have to drive down on Tuesday night just to get my hands on the bass, I'll just have to drive the extra miles on Wednesday... I've also asked Jon for a photo of the finished bass, just to tide me over. Nearly there... Eude
  16. Quick Update Looks like the bass will be turning up Monday next week I think. Jon's been crazy busy as usual, plus the bass should really sit for at least a few days to let it settle in once assembled, I'd rather wait a few more days than run the risk of having to send it back for tweaks. I'd considered wrapping it up and leaving it till Christmas day, but I don't think that'll be happening somehow... Cheers, Eude
  17.
I hope to add a 12"+mid to the range once the right speaker turns up which I would have thought would be the best solution for players such as yourself. The double bass cab is very much focused on minimising feedback and replicating the polar response of a double bass in a very unique fashion but the compromises required to do this make it a less logical choice for those playing non-acoustic instruments.
Wow Alex, that 12"+mid cab sounds right up my street! I love my Aguilar cab but it's a naturally a little shy on the mids, it's only 8 ohm and could be lighter, it's a one hand lift on a short journey, but having walked two miles with the cab, my bass in a gig bag and my head and other gear in a rucksack, I was wishing for something a lot lighter, or a cab with wheels and an engine... Can't wait to see what you come up with when the right speaker is available, really interested in a tilt facility too. Cheers, Eude
  18.
nothing mate, i will email jon at the end of the week if i havn't heard from him, i know he has a lot on, so don't want to bother him....to much, maybe he's waiting until yours is done so he can get a discount on the shipping
That's kinda good news for me then Hopefully he'll hurry things up to get your bass to you ASAP and by default I'll get mine... There's very little left to do to my bass, can't imagine it's more than a few hours work left. Cheers, Eude
  19. Hey man, any news then? I'm on the edge of my seat... Eude
  20. Wow man! That figuring is beautiful! I thought you where going for a Jazz Bass/MM pickup layout, you going for a $$ style arrangement now? You got an ETA yet? Eude
  21. Try Newtone Strings ( www.newtonestrings.com ) They've made all kinds of custom bass strings for me in the past, scales, guages, taperwound etc. and they do acoustic sets, they might be able to help you out. On a side note, I find that regular, albeit electric, bass strings fit fine on my 33" bass, so you might get away with a regular set. Good luck dude, Eude
  22.
a very merry Christmas then ... "Eude! Come and open your presents!" "No need, thanks" widdle widdle widdle
Ha ha, I think you're right! I'll miss my birthday probably too, it's only 2 days after. That's me confirmed my choice of layout with Jon by the way. Straight line - Classic Black Metal Dome Knobs. Awesome, Eude
  23. Hey guys, yeah I think you're all right, the more traditional layout is the way to go. Oldgit, I'd never thought of using the grub screws to keep an eye on things, might get my allen key out tonight and investigate. Live with my band I only really use the one sound on my 6er, so not really necessary on that one, however, this is a new bass, so who knows how I'll use it Stylon, not so sure about shifting the controls so much, as I'm looking for a more classic look with this bass. They'd be well out the way leaving plenty of room for crazy technique though... Cheers guys, Fingers crossed I'll have the bass in about a week! Eude
  24. Right, one last decision to make. Control layout and knobs... Either going with this >> or this >> Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards the more traditional straight line layout, I don't think 3 knobs are enough to follow the curve of the body. Oh, and I need to decide on either Lakland style Rubber knobs or the standard Black Metal Dome ones Jon usually uses, like in the pics. Cheers, Eude
  25.
Eude - I understand your excitement
It's terrible and awesome all at the same time!
i'm such a child, but seriously that is good news that its not to far off
No no, I laughed a lot even as I wrote it! Eude
