  1. I think a pure FRFR cab can be a little too HiFi, but I think there's consideration built into the LFSys cabs to stop them sounding harsh? Correct me if I'm wrong @stevie...
  2. I use taperwound 125 B strings on all of my 31.5" scale ACG basses and they sound and feel great! They also tune down to A and remain equally good. I actually think the design, construction and setup of a bass has more to do with a solid low B than using a super massive string.
  3. I replaced my two One10s with a single Monza and I'm over the moon! The single 1x10 cab is louder, goes lower in a beautiful punchy way, and has better dispersion than the two BF combined!
  4. Man, they sound very very interesting, but €120 for a six string set is wild! Maybe one to add to the lottery win purchase list...
  5. Bump with a slight price drop to £1550. Got a lot on at the moment, otherwise I'd have had time to pop this into the Bass Gallery for a commission sale. I'll be taking this down and making that visit ASAP, so anyone interested, please get in touch ASAP. I'm also taking away the option of the Hiscox case, as they're not going to be easily replaced now and I want to keep one. Sorry, but UK sales only I'm afraid.
  6. Literally pick any UK luthier, well most of them at least, and they'll build you exactly what you want, by hand, not CNC, for a fair bit less. You'll have a better bass, with way more input from yourself too. I don't doubt they're good basses, but it seems a hell of a lot for what's a fairly basic bass. I guess the Acinonyx basses will go the same way as the regular Nordstrand basses now, just a few made a year.

  8. If it's even half as good as the Monza, it'll wipe the floor with 99% of all 1x10" cabs out there, you know it makes sense... Your opinion/advice was key to me getting my LFSys cab, and every time I use it I have a smile on my face
  9. I think the Pro might have a tuner, along with some more effects, amps and cabs, but I have to say I'm delighted with my regular one. Especially since discovering I can plug it into my phone via USB C and use it to record audio for videos! I'm going to try it out with the new Fender Studio app this weekend too.
  10. I expect a half decent luthier could take an aftermarket short scale neck and pop it on a bolt on Epi Bird, and tweak the headstock to be a bit more Gibson flavoured. Even doing it with decent kit would probably still cost less than a real short scale Thunderbird.

  13. As another Monza owner here, I can only chime in with extremely positive vibes. I've had my cab a several months now, definitely way past the usual honeymoon period and yet, every single time I use it, I'm blown away with it. For a single cab, with a 1x10" speaker it is incredible. The low end is tight and punchy, all the time, but you can dial in more low end if you wish, the driver can handle it. The best word to describe it, as @cetera stated above, is, "authoritative". There is a solid presence at all volumes, that can't be ignored. I also think it would be a wonderful cab to reinforce a double bass. @stevie is also an absolute star to deal with, and although I'll likely never need it, I have another Monza on my shopping list, as soon as I can afford one. I recommend LFSys and the Monza especially to anyone that'll listen!

  15. Nothing new there I'm afraid, Charlie Hunter has had that pickup and output set up on his guitars for as long as I've been listening to him, possibly the best part of 2 decades! Jeez I'm old! Back on the topic of the bass at hand, I really don't see anything special to it, whatsoever, but some folks are willing to pay lots for custom instruments, that others think is silly, it's just another example of marmite in the bass world...

  17. Ryan Martinie has moved to Fodera from Warwick, his signature tone was always a Warwick Thumb, and yet, his Fodera sounds just the same, with a maple neck, korina body with a maple top.   18. I think the very dense body wood of a Thumb also contributes something, although, probably less on the bolt-on. If you were to build a Jazz sized body with similar woods though, it would be a boat anchor!
  19. 5 feet 6 here, and although I managed with a Thumb BO 5er back in my late teens, early 20s, I wouldn't want to be playing one now in my 40s! I moved it on, primarily as I wanted to go back to a 6 string, and couldn't afford to keep both, but once I went to a more comfortable bass, I could never go back. The sound was immense, they looks SO cool, but ergonomically, a very bad design compared to a lot of others out there, including other basses in the Warwick catalogue.
  20. OK, I only have bathroom scales, so not super accurate, but definitely sub 10 lbs, I'd say between 9 and 9.5 lbs. Bloody light considering the lumber involved.
  21. I can weigh it later today, but I reckon it's about 9lbs, or there abouts. For a 6er, it's not that heavy. Will report back soon.
