Well, it's that time again, another ACG build for lucky old me! As most of you know, I now own a few ACGs, but none of them scratch that Jazz Bass itch, so this is the one to do that. It's going to be one of Alan's RetroBs, his nod towards a more traditional styled instrument and quite a departure from his usual stuff. Anyway, here's the nuts and bolts... Number of Strings: 5 Scale: 31.5” Body: Ash Top: Quilted Maple with black veneer Neck: 3 piece Maple/Wenge/Maple Fingerboard: Cocobolo with AI Maple blocks with 0º Radius Pre-amp: John East Uni-Pre 4K Pickups: ACG B Series (probably overwound single coils) Hipshot Type B bridge with 18 mm spacing Gotoh GB720 tuners Hardware Colour: Black That's it, bar a couple of pics... Massive ad issue here, one not hit on before, although I am suffering the annoying ones at the bottom too which make the site extremely annoying to use on a mobile. Check out this big B**ger though! It totally mess up all down the page too... I'm using Chrome on a mac, pretty much up to date too, for a change... Eude

You're right, I read in an interview that SS1 was the first good bass he had and the only one he had during the early days with JK and for all the recording sessions for the first album. Personally, I think that bass sounds marvelous on the album and it's a big part of the overall sound. I think the P Bass thing came once he left the band. Every single bit of footage before then seems to be a Warwick bass. Eude

If it was entirely hand made, a left hander would not be a problem, Warwick now make all the high end stuff with extremely sophisticated CNC equipment, the absolute best of the best. There's obviously a lot of hand assembly and finishing too, but the basic shapes I expect are dictated by the CNC programming. Having said all that, they do seem to be willing to make anything these days, which would result in new CNC programming required, so it's odd that they're limiting the SZ signature off the bat... Miles off buddy, try €6799! https://shop.warwick.de/en/Instruments/Electric+Basses/Warwick+Masterbuilt/Stuart+Zender+Signature/Warwick+Masterbuilt+Stuart+Zender+Signature,+4-String+-+Nirvana+Black+Transparent+Satin The Warwick custom shop prices went through the roof a few years ago, at least compared to what they used to be, still a lot less than Fodera or Alembic I guess. That's great news @wateroftyne, I had heard he had been ill and was worried that would be it for TKS. Thank you very much for sharing. Eude

I don't think there's many around. They came out about the same time Warwick's prices went UP, when they radically changed their custom shop set up, and as a result, unlike most of the other models, there's no real second hand market of ones that were bought for a lot less. I'd be surprised if there's more than 20 of these basses in circulation. You never see him playing it these days either, it's a shame though as it's a really sexy beast. To be honest though, I'll always associate Mr Zender with his classic Warwick Streamer Stage I 4 string from his early days with Jamiroquai >> Eude

Ooooh, very nice @Merton, this is some year for basses isn't it! (I need to start a thread on mine too...) Eude

Onboard bass pre-amps - what turns your EQ on?
eude replied to Al Krow's topic in Accessories and Misc
It's an incredible preamp, although I've got the DFM version. Particularly well suited to fretless 😎 I wouldn't have anything else in my ACG fretless. -
I've had basses with 1 and 2, and to be honest I've never noticed the difference. All have been custom made, so the necks have been as well put together as they possibly could be and barely ever needed any kind of tweakery. I expect experience may well vary on a production line bass though. Eude

I think Musicman price has jumped up regardless of the hardware improvements, on all their models. I have to say, I know these are some of the better examples available, but they are still ultimately production line basses as far as I'm aware. Each to their own, but I would be looking at a custom made bass if I was going to spend that kind of money on a bass, especially if it was a 6 string... So, in reference to the OP "music man bongo 6, is it worth it?" My answer would have to be a resounding NO. Eude
-
Yup, try adding roughly £1000 now! https://www.music-man.co.uk/instruments/basses/bongo-6 Eude

Is it bad I'm trying to imagine that with 2 pickups and 6 strings?... Eude

Hot Damn @Andyjr1515, you've done it again! I love that design! Eude

Back in the late 90s/early 00s, I used to rehearse in a place that provided Ampeg gear, SVT 2 on an 8x10 fridge usually, and the amps never made it through a full rehearsal with me, not once, put me off Ampeg gear for life. Eventually they bought in an Ashdown ABM head for me to use and it took everything I threw at it and wanted more. Been an Ashdown fan ever since. Most rehearsal studios I've used more recently have had pretty recent Peavey gear, and it's been OK. Nothing like the Peavey of old, but pretty serviceable. Eude

That truly is the worst, but man alive it's SO good when it arrives! How soon will it arrive? Eude
