  1. It's reasonably well known that the older MarkBass stuff is considered to be better, there was a change in design between the LMII and LMIII, change in power supply I think, but I suspect some of the original LMIII's might have had the older power unit. I expect though, as a lot of folks have chimed in with, the room will have done a lot to change how the rigs performed. Eude
  2. Peavey always deliver, always have. I've not tried any of their newer Class D stuff, but I'll bet they're a lot louder than everyone else's. I wish they, and everyone else, would concentrate on compact, not necessarily lightweight, solid state amps, I'd buy one in a hot minute! Eude
  3. I should add, if a bassist who doesn't play a 6 string bass comes up with a neck profile that's comfortable to them, it's pretty much guaranteed to be comfy to a 6 string player, most 5's and all 4 string basses feel like toys (in a good way) when you transition 😎 Eude
  4. This is all very exciting! I think you've earned a few days "off" Eude
  5. This. I've got two Ashdown Mi10 cabs, so a similar set up to yourself. With the matching MiBass 2.0 class D head, they're not the biggest or deepest sounding and certainly not the loudest, although it does produce a nice tone, has a great DI and is tiny. However, I've recently tried the cabs out with a proper old school Ashdown ABM and they sounded enormous, with absolutely effortless low end and much better spread of sound. Same cabs, different head, VERY different story... Eude
  6. Yes indeed! It's my favourite design that Alan does. I have a Salace E Type and a Krell E Type which are more comfortable to play seated, the Salace in particular, but there's just something about this shape that speaks to me. It also feels incredibly familiar as I've had at least one Finn SC Classic in one form or another for pretty much a decade now 😲 Eude
  7. All very exciting mate! Lovely specs. I have to admit, I'm a big fan of Black Limba too, here's my Finn SC Classic 6er... Eude
  8. I'm sure we could figure something out once the bass is back home
  9. Yes indeed! It's always hard to visualise it until some hardware comes into play. I see you're in leafy Purley, I'm just along the road in Sanderstead! Eude
  10. Me too! He's a bit of a wizard isn't he...
  11. Sounds like a well considered decision dude 😎
  12. Phew! No more "air bass" now though Eude
  13. It's all relative and everyone is different, some folks find they cramp up on super slim necks! At the end of the day, its the differences in life that makes it interesting
  14. That's awesome news mate, a custom bass is a wonderful thing! That's going to be an absolute peach of a bass. Have you considered Alan's DFM preamp rather than a Uni-pre? I find it to be absolutely sublime on fretless instruments! Eude
  15. It's funny, I don't have massive hands, yet I've managed OK on 6ers since I first tried them. When I was at Art School, one of my class mates, who was 6 foot 4 and had massive flapping hands, could barely get his hand round the neck of the 6er I had at the time. I think your hands just get used to it, the muscles adapt, stretch and get stronger. It also means anything smaller, 5s or 4s feel comically small when you go back to them... If 16.5mm spacing wasn't available, it wouldn't stop me playing 6 string basses, I'd just have to get used to whatever was around 😎 Eude
  16. Looking great @Andyjr1515! If you think that neck is wide, it's only 16.5mm at the bridge, I believe Dave Swift's custom 6ers have 19mm spacing 😨 Eude
  17. Back before I could afford to have a few basses, I would go from 4 string, to 5 string to 6 string back to 4 string and repeat, selling one bass to fund the other as I went along. Through that journey I've found that I feel most comfortable in a 6 string, just feels like home. The low B sees a lot more action than the high C, but it's still something that I miss when playing a 5er. I'm, currently, lucky enough to have a few 6s and a lovely 4 string too (all ACGs 😎) and much like @Bridgehouse I would encourage everyone to try something different, you never know what might stick! Eude
  18. No bother dude, was just wondering. I don't usually mind swapping around either, but I have come to prefer a tight spacing on a 6er, 16.5mm, and 18mm on 4s and 5s. Cheers, Eude
  19. HOT DAMN! That looks incredible, not long now... What string spacing are you going with at the bridge? Eude
  20. Can't believe I forgot about this little guy >> If you can find an original Ibanez Promethean P5110 Combo, you'll be laughing! 300W, 500W with an extension cab. Tiny. Incredibly powerful. It had a kick back stand built in too. I have no idea why they stopped making them. There's been another model since which was total crap and now they're doing a 20W version that looks a bit like this one, but obviously being 20W it's not really much use to anyone. The only other real mystery is why I sold mine! It kept up with a loud drummer at rehearsals and quiet gigs, and worked perfectly for the kind of on stage monitoring you're talking about at louder gigs. They do seem to be extremely rare these days though... Eude
  21. I'm just going to leave this here, it's all I can think of when someone mentions "air bass"... 🤣
  22. I tend to agree with you, although I am partial to a completely Wenge neck 😎 I've got a bass with a Wenge/Purpleheart/Wenge neck which has a great tone, and a couple with completely Ash necks too, which seem to contribute a nice mid punch, but a little higher in the frequency spectrum than Wenge. It's a bit more aggressive sounding rather than growly, it works greats with a bass in passive mode. Eude
  23. Don't worry @Andyjr1515 I would never complain about the pace of your work, or the amount of updates! It's been wonderful! Don't forget the "big day" isn't till near the end of December... Great work on the cover, you've managed to match the flow of the grain on the Ash! Laaaavly! Eude
  24. Now that's just showing off! Absolutely love it @Andyjr1515!
