Not long now for my incoming fretless six. Hoping to pick up on the 17th!
The pic is not working! THE PIC IS NOT WORKING! Sorry for the urgency, I'm very keen to see this Eude
It is! I was tempted to get it set up from E-C but I ended up not doing that.
Fantastic
Your wish is granted! Suitably Cheap Trick and suitably bonkers!
Wow! Is this a 32"er with a low B too? Cheers, Eude
Zilla quoted me £100 for a 2U sleeve. I've not got one at the moment because I've ended up having a Line 6 G90 in my rack.
Thanks for the update, I've managed to get hold of Zilla now too, they're very busy, which is hardly a bad thing, just waiting for a ballpark quote. If it's anywhere near the figure you've mentioned though, I'll be a happy boy. Cheers, Eude
Wooden tolex covered sleeve. I've emailed Zilla.
Hey mate, how did you get on with this? I've got an Ashdown ABM EVO II RC I would liked housed similarly too, I emailed Zilla but no heard back yet... Cheers, Eude

Hey guys, I've got UK list prices for the Carvin combos now >> MB15 - £440.98 MB12 - £642.90 MB210 - £571.90 I have to say though, having read the concerns about reliability, the prospect of buying something that might well require sending back to the US in the event of a likely failure, I'm going to give it a miss. Give that you can pick up a new Markbass CMD 121H for only £50 more than the MB12, I think that's most likely the best option, unless one of those Alain Caron signature combos appears fora good price second hand... Thanks for all your input folks! Eude
Sound Unlimited are their UK dealer now.
Thank you! They're going to email me costs on the MB12, MB210 and MB15. They have the MB15 in stock, although that's the one that least appeals to me for some reason even though it's the toast of Talkbass...
Probably the same. It's a Series 6, 7 Band 1x15. The narrower one with the ports under the speaker, rather than down one side. I've had it forever and have always loved it, but getting it downstairs from the flat to the car was a pain. It's probably not a fair comparison as the MB has more power, but all of the class D/lightweight vs old school things I read aren't apparent to my ears, so it's a done deal... Just need to bring myself to sell something that's given me years of sterling service... sentimental old fool!
Ah, mine must've been the Series 5 then, as the ports where to the right of the speaker. And yes, getting those bloody things up and down flights of stairs on your own is awful, it's doable, but it's not fun and will likely end badly at some point. I miss the tone, clarity and power though. As far as the old school power section of a Trace vs anything digital, I think that Trace only put out 130W officially, but I had it up against some of the early 500W Class D amps and it absolutely blew them out of the water! Lets not let this turn into a old school vs new school power section debate though Eude
Not sure, but I know they only had limited UK distribution with Bass Gear who stopped stocking them despite Phil using one himself.
Wo! This would pretty much do everything! >> https://carvinaudio.com/collections/mb-series-bass-combos/products/mb12 Eude
To ease my aching bones I picked up a Markbass 121H from the Classifieds here. It's range is great, and I've never had it beyond a quarter volume yet, so I probably won't need to budget for the extension cab I thought I might need. I've been running it alongside the Trace combo used and loved for years and I honestly can't hear anything lacking, so as a one handed carry solution it looks like it's staying.
As a matter of interest, what kind of Trace combo are you comparing it to? I used to have a 1x15 7 band one, and I loved the sound, just couldn't deal with the weight on my own any more.
You can't get much more full-range and flat response than this: https://www.glockenk...mbo_duo_art.htm Edit: not very affordable though
Wow that's a pricey! I'm sure it's worth it though, I've got a lottery ticket for tonight... Eude
Yeah.. still reasonable for a custom build, but I'm beginning to think I got in at the right time.
Yup, I think you did. A pretty simple medium scale Elwood in Candy Cola that I got a quote for about a year ago has gone up over £200. Like you say though, still very reasonable for that kind of instrument when you think what others charge for very similar things, factor in the arguably very quick build time too compared to most luthiers and the price is even better! I'm pretty sure a big chunk of the increase will be thanks to the pound tanking for reasons not worth mentioning on here too, so I imagine Adrian's prices have probably only crept up a little if at all from his end.
Though with the Markbass combos & if you find £5-600 isn't expensive (which for a combo, it isn't), then you can get all 3.
Yup, I agree, I don't think £600 odd is too much for something like this.
-
Carvin if you can find one.
Have they stopped making their little combos now?
There's a saying - "Compact/light, inexpensive, good sounding. Pick two".
Very true mate...
Is this theoretically to take over from your Mibass set up?
Yup, it's a lovely setup, but I don't feel it does the full range of my 6 string quite the justice it deserves. I can hear a lot more through headphones via the amp, or when I've DI'd for recording too... Eude

Any thoughts on the Markbass Ninja 2x10 combo? Eude
How about this?
Oh, that's pretty much bang on! Eude
You can pick up a Trace Elliot for around £200-250 - does everything you'll ever need it to.
Ah, I should've added to the requirements that it should be reasonably compact and lightweight. I used to own a Trace combo years back, I loved it, but my back did not enjoy carrying it flights of stairs before and after I gigged it I'll edit my post now. Eude

Hi hive mind! Just thinking out loud, but what compact combos are out there that offer real full range clarity, and giggable volume, without costing the earth? Thanks for your input! Eude
On the subject of the neck carve on a single cut, my old ACG had this. Not sure if yours is similar. The build is looking impressive though.
I always thought that bass was particularly delicious even though it was the wrong way round Eude
