1.
According to their website, a standard J series Overwater starts at 2 grand, so I'd assume a p bass would be similar. If fancy electronics and quiet pickups are your thing, then you can't beat Overwater, but if you are looking for a very well built p bass, I recommend Jon Shuker, just from my experiences. Being honest though, no matter who you choose from the suggested names, you're guaranteed a very high quality product, and very good service.
I'd second that, I'd still strongly recommend you check out ACG, as they do make a P Type, but if you're wanting a much more trad looking bass, basically a custom P, Jon Shuker is your man, every time. Just dig through this forum to see why. Eude
  2. Another vote for ACG from me! I've played nothing but ACG basses for years now, and having owned and played some reasonably high end basses in the past, ACG are up there if not better than all of them Just to reiterate what others have said, Alan is an incredibly talented and accommodating individual and will make you the bass of your dreams. Cheers, Eude
  3. If manufacturers were required to quote their power ratings in a way that they were all comparable, and accountable to a certain degree, I think things would be very different. I've gigged with 100 - 200 W amps back in the day, pre class D and never ever wanted more power. If Trace are being honest about their ratings, then surely 200 actual watts will be enough for most people, and as a bonus it fits snugly into the back pocket of lady jeans... Eude

The amp is only £349! www.pmtonline.co.uk/ashdown-origin-hd1-valve-pre-di-mini-pre-amp-head Once I've got the scooby on the power stage, I'm on this like a nun sandwich! Eude

    Ashdown 2017
You're right about the Class A/B and switch mode supply on the little mark, but I think it was still a fixed voltage. If I recall correctly you had to change internal jumper settings to change the supply voltage between USA and Europe supply ranges.
Hmmm. Oh well. I'm hoping that if it is class D, it's very conservatively rated then I miss the days when you could gig with a 100W old school amp, all this class D stuff and using power rating as a marketing tool has just left me confused. Ashdown 2017
I dunno. Reading through some of the literature on other sites "The Origin comes complete with auto protect voltage for global touring musicians" screams class D to me. I don't ever recall seeing a non-class D amp with that feature. It also looks a little small for a toroidal tranny the size you'd need for an "old school" 300 watts.
I know the older MarkBass LittleMark's had a switch mode power supply right, but they wheren't class D? I'm really not very clued up on all this, but I think they were class A/B, and certainly sounded a lot nicer than their newer class D ones... Cheers, Ewan

    Ashdown 2017
The Origin is only 300W....I'm not sure why they went that route for? Where does it sit with their current lineup? Nice to see them offering limited versions of their amps and a few other new bits. If I had to start again I think I'd get some Ashdown kit.
I'm extremely interested in the Origin amp. I get the impression that although this might be rated low by modern class D standards, I know that Mark at Ashdown isn't the biggest fan of class D stuff, so I'd guess the power section here might be something different, either that or an extremely conservatively rated (i.e. honest) class D effort. If this isn't too pricey, and assuming my thoughts on the power section are true, I'll be pre-ordering one of these! Eude
  8. Scoop, of this parish owns it, along without 8,000 other ACGs too. I think the chances of it changes hands any time soon are as slim as a slim thing... Eude
  9.
lol , adrian actually had done a video of my custom : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hB6qgyJSuOI&index=44&list=PLzWxuTpz0aNheLTDqWv1SaIqtG7gvazml get your disco look on ;-)
That is awesome!
  10. Cool. I used to use their strings years and years ago, having them custom wind a 6 string bass set was cheaper than buying DRs from a UK based shop, this is pre-internet of course! I got back into using them as ACG started speccing them on their basses as standard, I've since met Neil who took over from Malcom, the original owner, and he's totally sound too. Delighted to be using British strings, never mind the fact that they are also bloody amazing! Eude
  11.
Thanks, i'm really pleased with how this has come out. I'l have to let you know on the B in a few days hopefully when its delivered, i've got some custom strings being made for it so we will see.
Newtones? I get them made up for my 31.5" 6 string and 4 string basses, they can work wonders! I've tried various others though, D'Addario's medium scale strings are very nice, and the tension on LaBellas was near perfect, although I didn't quite get on with those strings. Cheers, Eude
  12.
Well this was a nice surprise, only ordered this about 7 weeks ago and was told 12 to 15 weeks. Jake 32" Scale, active with Delano pickups and set up in B-E-A-D.
Very cool! How's the low B with the 32" scale? Eude
  13. That is simply awesome mate! You must be one happy bunny? We'll need a photo with it's sibling, of course... Eude
  14.
Yeah I would have loved a Sterling 5er, but you just don't see them 2nd hand, and the couple I've seen previously were snapped up, but had maple fingerboards (ugh). But with this coming in cheaper than a used MM ever would, i'm very happy with the amount of bass I have for the money. Yeah I had a 44-02 Deluxe in a past life, nice bass, but just wasn't very 'me' (cherryburst quilted maple top, super plain maple fingerboard (can you tell I don't like maple f/bs?)). Si
I think the one I played had a natural ash body and a rosewood board. I'm not the biggest fan of maple boards either Eude
  15. Very classy looking bass Si! I reckon a MM Sterling 5er would be a nicer bass, but this will be a lot more versatile for sure. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it! I had totally forgotten, but I had a shot on a Skyline 44-02 many many moons ago and was very impressed with it. Eude

    Smallest rig

Nope, it's been deleted. To be honest, there are louder class D amps out there, including newer ones by Ashdown. They do pop up now and again on here though, as do their predecessors which have a more extensive EQ section. Eude
  17.
Jon said he only recently got hold of the knobs with the white lines. He rather likes them, they are turned aluminium, anodised black.
There's not many forums where you can say "nice knob" without it being taken out of context, lets hope this is one of the good ones... Eude

    Smallest rig
I love the idea of something that size. I see a fiver in the picture, how does something that small handle the deep end?
Pretty well mate. In a gentle environment, say an acoustic jam, it's just fine, but for a bit more welly, you really need the two cabs. I've not used it much in anger as yet, but it's very capable considering the size. The best comparison would be a 2x10 combo if you've tried anything like that? Although, it's hand having the second 1x10 cab up nearer your ear, rather than on the floor. Eude
  19. Good choice and thank you for the update on whether it was ready or not Eude
  20.
Good to know. I'd love to see the Urban in the flesh. Even if it's more expensive, if it's as well made and a little less bulkier and lighter, I might go for it. And in a prettier colour (vain? moi?) The keyring... not sure that would sway me, unless it has a beer bottle-opener function
If you're ever in Moffat, I'm sure Alan of ACG fame will have some in stock to look at. Eude

    Smallest rig

Here's my FULL rig, but using just one of these little cabs still holds its own very well, and is extremely small/compact. Eude
  22. Holy crap! That looks incredible! Definitely like the Sadowsky style knob with the white line too. Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet? Eude
  23.
Ha ha! I have the green one too... not because I liked it but because I could not get the blue or orange that were my first choice Tempting to secure one of those... especially at that price
If you don't mind the colour, I'd say go for it, it's about £50 off, no?
  24.
Nice review, thanks Ped! I've been using a Fusion F1 for 3 years now. Still going strong and it's a fantastic bag/case. I was a bit disappointed when I heard the F1 was discontinued and the closest new model would be the Urban, as it seemed to me that they reduced the peripheral protection but I guess it's because of the new inserts that hug the body. Eude, how do they compare, the Urban and the F1? I'm thinking about having a second case and I'd love another F1, but I guess the Urban will have to do. One thing I enjoy about the F1 is that between sets etc my bass is in the case, upright. Often between bass cabs and a guitar cab with a wall behind. To get my bass in/out all I do is unzip the case about half way and slide the bass in/out. It looked to me the Urban makes this harder. Am I right?
The F1 certainly feels a little more substantial, however I think the improvements in the design for the Urban negates that, and also means it's a little lighter. I can't quite compare apples with apples, as my F1s are bass bags and my Urban is a guitar model, don't worry though, I use it with my short scale headless. The Urban is equally well made, I wouldn't worry about it compared to an F1, as good, if not improved They do still have some F1s, but in a bit of a nasty colour way >> https://www.fusion-bags.com/collections/guitar-gig-bags/products/f1-bass-guitar-gig-bag Eude
