he does talk about why/how he got back into stingray after years of Fender and then Lakland
Was it anything to do with 'Free Stuff'?

Have to say these cabs intrigue me massively too! I've been told the 1x10 version put out as much bass as the 1x12, but just doesn't go quite as loud, I guess worth trade off for some to have smaller and slightly lighter cab. Looking forward to hearing your review, but I'm going to have to get a shot of one of these soon... Eude
yup eagerly waiting for the 'anger' review.
Me too, I hope it's quite furious!

Have to say I'm extremely interested in one of these. I'd like to see a bit more in the preamp, even just the addition of low mid and high mid, but I guess you can drive it with a preamp pedal like you do. Currently using two compact 1x10 cabs, I find I'm missing a bit of thick effortless low end, does the single 12" really kick out a nice bit of oomph? Looking forward to hear how you get on with it in anger! Eude

Yup, I've never tuned in anything but B to G. As it happens, I have had Dunlops too, which were fine length wise, although I found them a bit too floppy on the shorter scale, I imagine they're lovely on a regular bass though. Cheers, Ewan

Hmmm. Well if you're allowing 2 inches of string beyond the post, before bending and poking it in the tuner, you won't struggle with any of the brands I noted above dude. Eude
-
Oh, also, medium scale strings wo't necessarily work, as 33" is longer than what's considered medium by the bass industry, which is 32". Seriously, I've never had an issue with long scale strings on a 33" bass. Eude
-
Wow, those must be some super-long strings! Are you leaving 2 inches of string after the post, before you bend it to create the bit to poke into the tuner? I've never ever come across this in nearly 10 years of playing 33" basses! If this is a brand specific problem, here's the strings I've used over those years with no issues whatsoever >> Rotosound D'Addario DR Picato Elixir Fender Newtone (non custom length ones) Cheers, Eude

I've been playing 33" basses for a long ol' time now and I've not really run into problems with any strings manufacturer I've tried. The only issue you can get is the taper starting a bit late, which can look a bit odd, but shouldn't effect how the string plays or sounds as that's determined by the bridge and nut. As mentioned above, Newtone will wind you custom strings in any length and gauge. All they'll need is the measurement from where the string anchors on your bass at the bridge to the nut. They do make lovely strings too Eude
Rather than one continuously variable tone pot, it is a five-way selector with presets for the tone. I believe there is an individual capacitor for each setting. It basically just makes the tone control more useable rather it being on, off or somewhere in middle. Hope that helps
Perfect, thanks mate! Sounds like a pretty useful setup, and without batteries! Eude

Lovely bass mate, congratulations! Can you give us more info on the THD circuit?... Cheers, Eude

I'm in again! I've got another ACG on the books. This one is a 6 string fretless Krell SC A Type, short(er) scale at 31.5". Chambered White Limba body with a 'Fractal Birch' top and Purpleheart accent. Wenge/Purpleheart/Wenge set neck. Lined figured Ebony fingerboard. 2 X RFB pickups and an ACG DFM filter preamp. I should get a build thread up soon. Cheers, Ewan

I'll be joining club again soon. More to follow... Eude
You will all be so sorry you did not get this. It is among the best fretless basses that Alan from ACG has ever built, if not the best full stop. Which is saying something, as the bar is high with ACG fretless basses. I was assuming it had long since been sold, but you missed it! Rest assured this is going to a good home. And it will not come up for sale again, not in my lifetime. My precioussssss......
Ha ha, it'll be on its way soon dude, no need to wander around till you find Mount Doom, I'll just pop it in the post Eude
Let me know what you go for, my specification is just for something light too and I'm always looking for ideas... Almost certainly so... Are you going for the multicoils on the new one? we'll have to arrange a get together when everything has arrived, be great to compare the Wal and ACG fretted and fretless sixers.
Happy to share once deposit is down, I'll pop a build thread on here for sure. Not going for multicoils I'm afraid, as I like a tight string spacing on a 6er, as I'm a small bloke. The MC pickups, currently, are spaced for 18mm, so although they would still work, as the strings would all be in the overall magnetic field, they pickup per string thing, wouldn't really make sense any more. I'll get a bass with them one day though. I kinda fancy a 4 string with them though. I'll be 40 in a couple of years, so if I wish hard enough who knows. I keep hoping Alan will loan me one to have down here for folks to try in London, no luck yet though... Yup, would be great to have a meet and compare basses! Eude
Still a bit flexible at the moment... They take so long to build you go through several changes of mind... It's definitely going to be ebony edge lines only board and a light coloured facing. I was originally thinking of a stain in either violet (like my old MK1) sonic blue or white, but I may just go for a lighter natural wood. All depends what Paul has in at the time I need to choose. Doesn't seem so far away now it's under 12 months to go...
Sounds good mate. I reckon a nice contrast to your fretted would be good. I'm just finalising a spec for a fretless 6 from ACG to go with my recent 6, it'll be a nice light top compared to the Koa on the other. I wonder if mine will be done before yours... Cheers, Eude
Second payment down on my incoming fretless sixer yesterday... only a year to go now...
Wow! I forget, what's the specs on this one? Eude
MarkBass do a tiny 300w head, can't remember the name of it.
NanoBass. Pretty good by all accounts too.
