1. Some dealers outside of the UK are popping up, but to be honest, bar having a few basses to try out, the custom process is still buying blind, even through a dealer, which as you mention, would add a mark up. There's been several very happy customers on here, there's bound to be someone near you who might be willing to let you check their bass out? If you ordered something and weren't happy with it, as long as you hadn't gone mental with the custom options, I don't think you'd struggle to move it on in the classifieds... Eude
 2. Give Ashdown a shout, their customer service is amazing!
 3. Well that's more than a bit nice! Congratulations mate :-) Eude
 4.
Would you keep me posted too if this happens? I'm gassing for one of these badly I'm only a short way away in Sutton.
Will do matey, whether or not a Retro One10 will be there I'm not sure, I guess it depends if Merton can hold his resolve. There will be a some G3 Compacts though, possibly a Retro Two10 and a fair bit of Ashdown gear...
 5.
The Super Compact is certainly accurate within its design bandwidth (37Hz-4kHz) but it isn't hi-fi in the full-range studio monitor sense, like the Big Baby 2. And the Super Midget is a great alternative to the Big Baby 2 if you want that full-range accurate sound but need the smallest cab possible.
I was going to mention the midget. I've not tried one personally, although I did hear a G2 one a couple of years back and was very pleasantly surprised at how much it filled the fairly large room I was in, astonished is probably closer actually. Based on what I've heard of the G3 Compact, I imagine the new Midgets are most impressive! Eude
 6.
I've never actually made a BC bash so it's about time I managed to get to one... Let me know if and when you guys are organising it for and I'll hopefully be along
Well, it's not an 'official' bash, just two or three of us in a wee rehearsal space, the bigger bashes would let you meet a lot more folks and try a lot more gear out, but seeing as you have something quite specific, it's probably a very good opportunity for you if it'll fit. Eude
 7.
Sounds promissing with a more balanced sound... Let me know about the mini bash. Anywhere I can get to on a train easilly is doable
Well of we do do it in Surrey, I'll be driving from near Sanderstead train station, so if you can get to me, I can drive from there. Eude
 8.
The compact is a 12 isn't it? I was mostly tempted by these because of the tiny size... I appreciate there is always going to be a compromise and it's not going to sound like an 8x10, but I'm really looking for the lightest, smallest rig I can possibly get away with. I sold my excellent Purple Chili 112s and got a berg 210, which is easier to manoeuvre around on a trolly, but a pair of these would be even easier. I only really need a rig for rehearsals and as a monitor at gigs, but as it's my sole sound source at rehearsals I want it to sound good and full, with enough bottom end.
They are a 12, but they're not exactly huge, and they're incredibly light. I have a mini rig, 2 x 1x10 Ashdown Mi10's and a G3 Compact drawing 8 ohms from my amp was louder than the two little cabs together drawing 4 ohms. The newer G3 cabs don't have the barky abrasive sound I heard in the older stuff, much more balanced. Might be worth investigating... Merton and I will be having another mini-bash in darkest Surrey or possibly South Croydon again soon if you want to pop along to have a go/listen? Eude
 9.
Thanks for that, always good to get some first hand knowledge from people actually using the setup. I think I'm going to have to hear a set for myself... I worry a bit as a lot of barefaced users seem to be the P bass / valve amp type guys and I'm much more of a HiFi deep and bright tone kinda guy, no break up, very clean sound. I'm using Glockenklang / Bergantino currently. I know barefaced do an excellent trial period but I'd feel very cheeky sending stuff back they've made specifically to fullfil my order. I see from your location you're in kent... any gigs in london coming up I could pop along to and hear the rig for myself in a real band situation?
I heard both the Retro 210 and the G3 Compact recently, with an all valve Ashdown CTM-30 and an Ashdown RM-800. If you want HiFi, I reckon you should probably look to the G3 Compact. Eude
 10. Is this the one you got with my old ACG? If so I'll 'ave it! Eude
 11. I can only agree with Martin and Stew. Retro 210 - Vintagey. Compact - More hifi(y). I quite liked the sound of both of them in different ways, but I think the Compact would be more "me". The CTM-30 is gorgeous though, and incredibly well made too. If I could afford one, I'd have ordered one this morning. One big thing I noted last night was the output of the Compact. Running both my 1x10 cabs, at 4 Ohms total, was actually quieter than a single 8 Ohm Compact with the amp settings all the same. That was quite a surprise! Eude
 12.
can you buy the ACG preamps?
You can buy them, but not the latest version that ships with the custom basses.
 13.
Yep, a polish friend told me to say it as Mah-roosh-chick - the r of 'roosh' is supposed to be one of those rolled European ones that we Brits don't have but otherwise that's it from what I understand
Splendid, I can put my feet up for the rest of the week then.
 14.
I have severe GAS for a Hellwood 5 with purpleheart instead of padouk. Has anyone figured out how to pronounce Maruszczyk yet? Morris? Maroosk? Not enough vowels in the last half of that word for my liking!
I think its Maarooshchick. I'm probably wrong though, usually am... Eude
 15.
To support future use I purchased some new 6550B valves. In order to test the new valves I swapped them into the head and came across a minor problem. One of the original valves had a broken central key post on the base which was left in the valve socket when the valve was removed. I had some fun and games getting the broken off key post out of the socket and although the valve was working I was reluctant to use it in the future. I know I should probably let Woodbrass.com deal with obtaining a replacement valve but I contacted Uli Behringer (via Talkbass) and asked if he could suggest a more direct route? Uli replied almost immediately suggesting I contact the Music-Group care centre in Kidderminster who should be able to help. Once I had provided them with Uli's communication and my Woodbrass invoice they kindly registered my BVV3000i for the 3 year warranty and sent me a replacement 6550B within a couple of days. I consider that excellent customer support from the top down from an organisation that seems to get a fair amount of stick on here and TB and infinitely better than some of the 'premium' brands I have dealt with over the years. Oh, and the BVV3000i is still working fine and sounds fantastic!
That's great to hear mate. We don't often hear about how good customer support is, it's usually always bad news. Glad the amp is really working for you too. Eude
 16.
Sounding great too WoT
+1 Eude
 17.
Does a single inch make quite a difference to the playability?
Absolutely! It shouldn't, but it does, but it's not such a massive difference that regular basses feel alien. Eude
 18. I'm in. That's going to be a very cool bass mate. I wasn't aware that Adrian did 33" basses either, thought he only did the usual 30", 32", 34" and 35". 10 weeks is not a long time, but it'll still feel like forever... Eude
 19.
From what I understand, Rosewood and Ebony are opposite ends of the Bright & Dense spectrum, with Pau Ferro sitting somewhere in the middle. If I can specify a dark Rosewood, that would be great, waiting for Adrian. He's a saint if he has to deal with even half the emails I've sent with each customer!! Si
Pau Ferro for me, I REALLY like it Eude
 20.
I don't think I'd consider the JPJ configuration, I much prefer a P in the neck position than a J. The JJ in the bridge should prove to be versatile though. I'm now going back over the fingerboard wood choice.......the trouble is it's difficult to decide based on photos. WoTs fingerboard looks nice, fairly dark rosewood, but some on the website look pretty washed out, again may be bad lighting. Adrian forwarded me a photo of a bass with an ebony board, but it looks more slate grey than black with subtle ebony grain (see attachment), possibly just the lighting though? Si
Surely you can specify what kind of colour of fingerboard you'd like, or at least a ball park? Adrian seems very happy to do his best to meet every requirement you might have, so if you want a darker coloured board like WOT's, just ask nicely I think you should perhaps consider how the board will sound, if you want something that sounds like a more fender vintagey style instrument, ebony probably isn't a good idea. Eude
 21.
I fail to see what the issue is if the list price for the Subway turns out to be £739.
It's horrid to read a list of $699 on the manufacturer's site to then hear it's going to cost considerably more than that over here. Like you say, if an Aggie TH500 is £749 full UK list, I guess that the Subway is very much in the right ballpark amoung it's competitors. It just stings to be able to make the comparison in prices so easily. Eude
 22.
I agree. However their will be plenty of GAS building up over here, particularly with this piece of kit sporting the Mesa Boogie logo.(to be honest I feel the GAS coming on myself)
True, it does sound nice and it's bound to be very well made, but I just couldn't stomach paying SO much more than our US counterparts. If I was made of money, fair enough, but I ain't so my when I can afford a change I'll spend my limited budget elsewhere... Eude
 23.
+1 and interestingly the German made Tecamp Puma comes in at the same price in the U.S. as it is over here, despite transportation,tax/duty charges. Guess in order to remain competetive Tecamp and other European manufacturers have to cut their profit margin per item when selling in the U.S., but its a double whammy for us on this side of the pond.
Maybe we subsidise things to keep prices down for the US? Eude
