1.
And while you two get a room I'll just reach in and grab the bass.
We'd best keep our eyes peeled, there'll be 4 ACG's there!
 2.
Looking forward to meeting her at our ACG/Barefaced/Ashdown love in haha
Patience, Danielsan...
 3.
Yeah I saw those Fusion ones, that's what prompted this thread, they look enormous! They also look a bit high, I'm 6'1 and I'd be hitting bus shelters etc. ..maybe it's easier to just buy a car and be done with it.
They might look a bit high however, if you can imagine the butt end of the bass hanging much lower with a weight of 22lbs, you'd want that weight nearer the lumbar so that it's controlled better by the straps rather than flapping about and hitting your legs. I've got a custom leather bag from Pro Bag that hangs a lot lower, fine for one bass in my opinion, and they make double bags. http://www.probagg.com/ As I said, I've got a couple of F1s and the leather Pro bag, you're more than welcome to come check them out if it'd help. I'm in sunny South Croydon, 3 mins walk from Sanderstead train station. Eude
 4.
Love it
Thanks mate!
 5. I've got a couple of Fusion F1 bags and they are lovely! They make a newer version now which comes in a 2 bass flavour >> http://www.fusion-bags.com/collections/guitar-gig-bags/products/fg-double-electric-bass-guitar-gig-bag 2 bass of 11 lbs each is going to be quite a test, but if you make sure and set all the straps, lumbar etc correctly, I'm sure you'll be fine, if a little less popular on public transport Eude
 6.
Utterly, utterly splendid! Lovely bits of wood that Alan has used there. Third picture down just makes me want to reach in and grab it.
Thanks mate, Alan is a true craftsman and I'm a very happy bassist!
 7. Thanks mate, I am very very happy with this little bass! Pretty happy with the table too I think the body is the regular Recurve size. All of the ACG designs are a lot more compact than they may appear. I've played several 34" scale Recurves and marveled at how compact the bass felt yet how well it balanced. Obviously the balance with the shorter neck will be even better, but all the 34"s weren't shabby in that department either. You're right about it not being the last, I actually have another underway already Eude
 8. Well Friday, last week was yet another NACGD (New ACG Day, for those not in the know…) About lunchtime, a lovely UPS delivery bloke dropped off a massive box for me with a truly awesome little bass in it. Here’s the specs… ACG Recurve DC 4 String Custom 31.5” scale Black Limba body with Kingwood top Ash/Wenge/Ash neck with Wenge fingerboard ACG B Series PB (split coil) pickup at the neck/mid position, OSB (overwound single coil) pickup at the bridge Custom ACG/East Preamp with 4 way rotary pickup selector switch and active/passive rotary switch Hipshot Type B bridge (my favourite bridge ever!) Gotoh GB720 tuners DR Sunbeam strings I’ve played 4, 5 and 6 string basses over the years, and I’m now very lucky to be in a situation where I have the luxury of more than one of them, so I fancied a nice little easy playing 4 string. I’ve had a love hate relationship with 4 strings over the years, since developing an addiction to low B strings, I’ve picked them up and moved them on quite quickly, so getting one that would hopefully stick would need to be more than a bass with one less string than my usual 5. Over the past 12 months I’ve been lucky enough to noodle on a fair few 32” 4 string basses, and I’ve noted how much fun they are to play. The shorter scale, even shorter than my usual 33”, and fewer strings made me take more risks and challenge myself a bit more. 5 and 6 strings are likely always going to be my go to set up for most things, however picking up a little shorty can really revive some passion for proper bass playing, doing more with less etc. Alan has made several 31.5” basses, again which I’ve had the pleasure of playing, so I decided that 1/2 an inch shorter should be even easier and without much sacrifice with regards to string tension etc. Strung up with Short Scale DR Sun Beams (which are a perfect fit for the 31.5” scale), the string tension isn’t noticeably softer, even drop D is very useable, so there must be more of that ACG Voodoo used on the low B’s for my 33” 5 strings from Alan. I got set up on Saturday night for a little noodle with my trusty little Ashdown MiBass rig and was amazed at how playable this little bass is, it seems to play itself, which is handy given my lack of practice of late! The bass can’t be more than 8 lbs in weight, so it’s effortless to wear on a strap and balances nicely on the lap too. Plugged in, the bass has a nice weighty sound to it, regardless of the pickup combination, in passive mode. I’ve read that Black Limba and an Ash neck can have more of a mid focus, and to my ear, that’s certainly true of this bass. The shorter scale adds a bit of warmth and depth too, particularly as you make your way towards the dusty end. Kicking in the active ACG/East pre was a sonic revelation though. As nice as the passive tone is, it’s somewhat gentile by comparison. Going active on this bass turns it into a monster! The natural punch of the bass becomes something really hefty, but with sparkling clarity on tap too. The preamp is based on a John East P-Retro, with some additions, switchable bass boost, treble boost and active/passive switching. Lots of subtle tone tweaking available here, or you can engage everything and end up with the proverbial sledgehammer, which I opted for most of the evening OK, here’s some pics too. Garden table based ones as requested by CamdenRob As some of you know, I’ve been playing ACG basses exclusively for some time now. ACG make incredible instruments, sublime craftsmanship, which represent intelligent and considered design and evolution from more “traditional” style instruments. Alan is always a pleasure to work with fantastic communication throughout, and always meets his deadline, more often than not beating it. I can’t recommend ACG basses enough, I really really can’t. Eude
 9. Wow Rob, that new Wal, and your recent 6 string are simply amazing! You're a one lucky Walowner! Eude
 10.
I'd highly recommend a Midget from Barefaced. I have a G2 Midget (1x12) and it's easily as light as much smaller 1x10s. Loads of headroom, I've walked it through London with a Little Mark 2 and a bass no problem. I've also gigged a little Bag-End 1x10 before which was nice, not a great deal of low-end as it wasn't ported, however sounded fine and held it's own. Heavier than the Midget though. Si
If your budget will stretch to a Midget, I think that could be a very good option. I was at the Moffat Bass Bash back in 2013 and was amazed at how much that little cab could fill a pretty large room, it was insane! It sounded massive and the spread of sound throughout the room was extremely even. I believe it was a G2 Midget T, so a 2nd hand one of those could be a very good choice, but I've heard the G3 ones are even better/lighter etcs. If your budget is tight, I refer you to my post about Ashdown Mi10s Eude
 11. I can vouch for the Ashdown Mi10. It's a lovely little cab and plenty powerful. Can get a little nasal at volume, but that's easy fixed on your amp. Two of them as actually quite a force to be reckoned with. I believe the Mi10 and the Eden equivalent are made in the same factory, but the Ashdown seems a lot more solid, and a bit classier with it's carbon effect tolex vs the Eden's carpet. Eude
 12.
To be honest I have never had one , all I can say IMHO the demo I have seen on you tube doesn't do it justice at all in fact it couldn't have been worse . comparing it to my markbass little Rocker & MarkBass Mo Mark , it has a lot of depth, clarity & punch , It made my TC 250 sound like tiny transistor radio . I really don't under stand why more of these were not sold , I've tried to find fault with it & I just can't I have to cover stuff from Blondie ,Peter Gabriel,PIL, Yes to name a few & it does it all very well . I've had a lot of amps & none of them have been as good as this .
Its an odd one, I think "Class D" puts the more old school folks off, and Ashdown ABMs tend to attract folks looking for a more trad sound, I guess it's just a mix of technology that didn't quite stick for them. I don't think you can get them anywhere any more, which is a real shame... Eude
 13.
Ashdown are a great company to work with I have a ABM 400 digital head & they are just making me a ABM1000 .
How does the digital power stage compare to the big ol' lumps of iron in the solid state ones? Do you miss any of the proper heft you get in the heavier amps? Eude
 14. I played a gig in the Spiegeltent with my little Promethean, intended to use it for on stage monitoring and I was told to turn down as it was so loud that it was interfering with the front of house! Eude
 15.
Did a gig last Friday night in a hotel where the venue is pretty big. I would say medium size. I know my bass will be DI to the PA so instead of just relying on the monitor for the bass I took my Redsub BE100 with me. The combo is 100watt going into a 10inch speaker. I had it tilted up and send the lineout of the amp to the PA. The small amp hold well onstage for monitor and the PA took care of the business. It really convince me the idea to sell all my amp stuff and go for the Markbass CMD112 instead now.
I believe those ones are based on the Ibanez Promethean P5110 combo copy they did, just with a smaller power section. I loved my little Promethean, and still regret moving it on. I had to opportunity to try out Neepheid's RedSub version and it was just as good, if a little uglier No wonder your little BE100 did well, it's probably a VERY good little combo. Eude
 16. Hot Hot Hot! We NEED sound clips! Amazing work Eude
 17.
I'm usually a fan of Ashdown but was seriously disappointed with the MiBass head paired with either a Mi10 or Mi12 cab. Seemed to lack the usual Asdown character to me.
I think the MiBass range was aimed to get more of a hifi, or transparent kinda sound. I can't hear the signature Ashdown tone, it just seems to make my bass louder Eude
 18.
Hi, I've not tried the combo but I have the Mi-Bass head and 112 cab - the sound is pretty nice. Once you get the gain up to the right level it has a nice deep tone that seems fine to me for practice / rehearsal. For gigging I'm tempted to pick up a Fender Rumble 500 as I do think the Ashdown lacks the bottom end a little but its certainly not bad.
Might be worth trying to turn the lower frequencies up more than you would usually, it certainly makes a massive difference on my setup with the Mi10 cabs.
Awesome, thanks for the replies guys, very helpful! I like the idea that the amp is removable too, I could use it as a backup then too in conjunction with my Vanderkley cab. Eude, that's kind of everything I wanted to hear! If the 1x12" was around used, I think that would be better, but hopefully the 1x10" would suffice. Thanks again!
Not a problem mate, the MiBass set up, as usual for poor Ashdown, is pretty underrated. The MiBass 2.0 head is very basic compared to some, but it does sound nice, and if you're into it, you can actually push the gain stage for a pretty nice overdriven sound (it's designed to do that by the way). It actually sounds amazing with my ACG Skelf Guitar, it's a really nice creamy distortion. If you were in or near London you'd be more than welcome to come and have a go with my little rig, but it might be a bit of a push from the West Mids... Eude
 19.
New new Warwick run rig!
Oooooh, very nice. I'm very intrigued by those LWA 1000s!
 20. Hey mate, I've got the Mibass 2.0 head and 2 x Mi10 cabs, so I've replicated the setup you're asking about a fair ol' bit. It's a pretty capable amp, and the 1x10 cab does really well considering the size and it's all very nicely put together. It's not as good as my old Ibanez Promethean P5110 I had, but that thing was crazy good. If you can get hold of one of those I'd shoot for that first. I play 5 string bass most of the time and the setup handles low B just fine. At volume, things tend to start to sound a little nasal, but if you cut the mids a bit, push the bass and turn up a bit more it sorts itself right out. It's a great practice setup and I'd be pretty confident with the single 1x10 set up at small gigs, assuming the drummer isn't nuts and your guitard doesn't insist on bringing along a 100W Marshall and a 4x12... Perfect for an acoustic gig. Hope that helps! Eude
 21.
Earlier on, I talked about how dinky the thumb proportions are (bearing in mind that this is similar dimensions). Here it is next to the 6-string electric!: Cute or what Andy
Following this, and all your threads for that matter, with interest. Great stuff mate. Lovely to see how compact the body shape is too. I'm massive fan of the Thumb Bass design, but always felt that it was let down by the ergonomic considerations, or lack of. I played a 5 string Thumb BO for many years, but eventually gave in and got rid. I miss the sound, but I don't miss playing it... I agree with the comments above, a medium, or even short scale version would be amazing! Eude
 22.
Absolutely, it's also not a million miles away from the Mayones logo. Yeah that's almost bang-on, pickups, bridge and controls obviously give it away, and it doesn't look like a Butterfly on the headstock. Trouble is, you still don't know what kind of wood they're using, possibly not cured well, just pulled out of the stock without any consideration of resonance/tone?! That said, I guess that's how most mass produced basses are made. Si
Well I think it's fair to say, these Chinese copies are likely to be a world away from the real deal, regardless of some of the similarities, but it'll be fun to find out how the OP gets on with this bass if they ever reappear... Eude

 24.
At least Mikes is branded as 'M' Bass or whatever.
That may also dupe people... http://mbasses.com/
 25.
It is my understanding that it is more or less identical. In components and spec. Just using cheaper labour to bring cost down.
Excellent, thank you for that. I used to have the older model and was always very impressed by it. Considering a rig change at the moment and was looking at going back to a Little LittleMark. Eude
