1. Does anyone know how this compares to the older Italian made LittleMark 250? Eude
  2. Wow, they've gone for it on this one, they've even got the headstock pretty much right >> http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Active-Pickups-Custom-JUGG-Butterfly-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Rare-Guitar-Natural-Finish-Alder-Body-Maple-Rosewood/1006237_32348128205.html Eude
  3.
looked all around for what I want nearest thins is sterling stingray and they are about £1700 so may as well take the plunge and go for an Alan special, just pooping my pants a bit at laying down so much money on a bass!!
I honestly think that's the best way forward mate. Only a custom bass will meet your quite specific needs properly, and Alan's basses come in at a similar price to some production line assembled US basses. To me, and ACG is a no brainer. Eude
  4. ACG all the way mate Eude
  5. I have to echo Si's comments. I've played nothing but 33" scale basses for years now, almost all of them with a low B and they have been miles better than any mass produced basses with low Bs I've ever played. The scale length has a lot to do with how well a B string speaks however, a well built, properly set up instrument and string choice contribute massively too. Also, as Si says, you don't need to buy a Fodera, I've had Shuker basses and now play ACG exclusively, all 33" and I've never looked back. ACG's start at £1100 for a Standard Series 33" 5er. As far as the Ibanez goes, the hardware all looks good, so assuming the neck is nice and stiff and you cut the nut well, I'm sure it'd be lovely tuned B to G. Eude

    ACG NBD x 2

This thread is NOT helping... I can you mark it as "inappropriate"?...
  7. As I said in another post. Filth. You lucky bastard

Sweet! We'll need an updated family photo soon Eude
  9.
That is gorgeous! Nice one mate. Eude
I'm going to +1 my own post just to reiterate my thoughts on it. That is a REALLY sexy bass. I'm not jealous in the slightest... Eude
  10. That is gorgeous! Nice one mate. Eude
  11.
Loving them so far. Haven't had too much of a chance to play with it at volume but punchy as a punchy thing so far but can be dialled to a smooth thump with ease. The neck is the thing I'm most impressed by I think. Just plays effortlessly
Having played a couple of Ubers, the most striking thing I noticed was how even the tone, weight and volume was from the lowest notes on the B string to the highest noodles beyond the 12th fret. It has the same voice across the whole range Eude
  12. Complete and utter Filth! I'm extremely jealous of course. Congrats mate. How're you enjoying those amazing pickups? Eude
  13.
Sounds pretty reasonable for what you get! How easy/fast are they to play say compared to a fender Jazz which is what I'm used to? Certainly sound wise they are perfect, nice punchy sound !
The regular ACG spec is an asymmetric neck with a flat fingerboard and they play beautifully, but remember even the Standard Series basses are still custom hand made instruments. You can spec neck profile, there's options on fingerboard radius and nut width on Custom basses, possibly some of those options on Standards too, but you'd best ask Alan at ACG about that. Eude
  14.
I like the sound of the 31.5 inch!! What if I may ask is a decent price for an ACG, obviously it will depend on woods etc, whats an average?
A Standard Series 4 or 5 string starts at £1100 >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/standard-basses/standard-specification/ A Custom goes from £1800 up >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/basses/custom-specification/ Standards include some limited options, and a non angled headstock, a Custom would come with more choice of woods etc. Both specs are available in 31.5" scale. Eude
  15. I have a couple of ACGs, have owned 3 others and have 2 on the way. I'm having a 31.5" 4 string built right now which should be ready soon and have something a bit special on the back burner. There's lots of samples and demos here >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/category/media/ Eude
  16.
Dear Bass Chat i'm a new user, old bass player! Used to own a Wal fretless in 80's sold it (biggest regret of my life!), now looking to get another decent fretless but my budget at present not up to £3000-3500! At present I have a Squire vintage fretless with Bad ass bridge, Its ok I guess but passive, not very inspiring, so want to treat myself to a decent bass up to £2000 (hopefully less!) Do any of you peeps know of a bass that has very fast neck with narrow string spacing 16 -16.5, lined fretless, active, I'm looking for punchy tone, like a Wal, but with decent growl, don't want muddy sounding crap, very crisp please!!? It would seem to me having done research that 5 string basses usually have narrower string spacing ANYWAY,? so that could be a solution, strung E,A,D,G,C, don;t want low B, too low for me! So I've looked at: Status - wonderful narrow fast necks, headless, lovely, pricey, graphite neck = nice punchy tone with good highs £2500! Sandberg - difficult getting any info on string spacing, and what does it sounds like? £1500 Roscoe- Looks and sounds nice expensive, not sure about spacing > £2200 Mayones - Look and sound ace, spacing? £1600 - 2000 Overwater- does do narrow strings, sounds very smooth but is it punchy enough? £2200 Musicman - as far as I see none in the UK, so can't fond out much about these. £1600 Spector - Dittp Musicman, are these any good (ca get a Euro for £1500) So my question is has anyone experience with any of the above as fretless (or otherwise)... I know there is no substitute for a Wal and may even end up getting one, but is there ANYTHING out there thats what I want (can you read my mind) I want quality, playability, light small body, fast action, narrow neck, smooth as butter with zing!!!! Any good suggestions other than above? Thanks for listening I hope you can help!!!!!
As others have already said, try ACG. As long as you don't go crazy with your specs you should be fine to get something to your requirements for your budget, easy Eude
  17.
It looks awesome... you'll have to do an NBD thread when it arrives and make us all jealous
That might be a mistake, I imagine the majority of us are already nearly jealous enough to intercept the pick up... Eude
  18.
Agree with you Si. Both shape and pups are just wrong... Maybe with a SR body and some traditional looking pups (i.e. 5 string jazz bass singles size) they would have nailed it. Better luck next time Ibanez...
Yup, the general consensus, here and on Talkbass is that they've missed the mark a little on this one. You never know, they might give it another go based on feedback.
  19.
Picking this up on Friday. Excited doesn't cut it.
Wonderful news mate! Friday can't come fast enough I'll bet...
  20.
I believe you can specify whatever you want, they are made to order I was offered a maple neck with block inlays but chose the rosewood with dots
Cool!
Do they have more examples of there page? Whats the site?
+1
  21. So what kind of options did you have when you ordered this bar the logo?
  22.
That is unbelievable! I love it!!! Oh crap, how much are ACGs?
Much better value than you'd expect, that's for sure! Oh, and Ms Undead, if you're in the London area and can make it to South Croydon, you're more than welcome to try my ACGs out. Eude
  23. Hey there, that's great news Lots of good advice above, not much to offer here bar reinforcing how light the alder ACG use can be, you'll easily hit your target weight. Are you going for a 34" scale bass, as I know you've flirted with shorter scales over the years... I play 33" 5 string basses and I love the playability without any noticeable sacrifices when held up against 34" basses. I'm actually having a 31.5" 4 string bass built right now too, for even more playability As far as finishes go, I would go for a natural fancy wood rather than the grunge black, your choice of flamed maple with a black pickguard tips the hat nicely at a more classic bass while putting out that cool custom vibe I've had quite an experience of ACG basses and have been bugging Alan routinely for quite a long time, feel free to shoot me a PM if I can be of any help. Eude
