1. I think the revised vertical design is about 10kg so considerably lighter, but in the grand scheme of things, 14kg isn't really that bad from something than can hold its own. Yup, not sure where the tweeter would go in that design, but I'm certain it's an option. I know that Mike has been using some new "super" driver that has a lot more high end available, so a tweeter might not even be necessary for most of us. Eude
  2.
I currently have a pair of Purple Chili 112s with the tweeter but have been thinking recently about swapping them out for a pair of berg CN112s as I was very impressed with the clarity at volume when I tried them out and thought they would be a good match for my Glockenklang, not that there is anything wrong with the PCs, just one of those grass is always greener things... However played a gig on saturday with no PA support and the PCs sounded huge. Deep room filling bass whilst still being tight and punchy. Proper seperation of notes without losing any power at the bottom end. They may not be the smallest 112s out there (the cabinets are actually pretty big) or the lightest (14kg) but I'm prepared to put up with the flaws for the sound and volume they managed on Saturday night... I'll be keeping them for the foreseable future.
I had to pleasure of playing through just one Sk8's old 1x12, without a tweeter, at a Moffat Bass Bash a few years ago and was hugely impressed. We were set up in an empty theatre, probably seats a little under 100, and with an Ibanez Promethean head it completely filled to room! The only reason you might want to change would be for new aesthetics... Is that's helping?... Sorry Mike Walsh does make amazing cabs though, and they look very cool too. Eude
  3. That's going to be a VERY cool bass! Love that fingerboard Eude
  4.
I liked Mac OS-X up until Tiger (10.4)
This. I used to do Mac IT on top of my real job and previously looked after nearly 60 users over 2 sites, one of which pretty much remotely and it used to be pain free. Now I work in a much smaller firm, with only 5 of us and I struggle to keep things running smoothly with all the bodged updates and the fact that OS X Server has been reduced to an "app". Things limp along now and I've lost all interest in the continued firefighting, they can stay that way. Eude

  6.
Out of curiosity, if it's not money that you avoid Apple for. Why is it?
I personally just don't like how iPhones work, I've always hated iTunes, and the prospect of using it to manage the contents of my phone is completely mind bending! I appreciate that now you don't have to rely on iTunes as much as you did on earlier iPhones. Another thing that's always got to me is some (and only some I might add) iPhone users' smugness in having an iPhone, however I do see the irony in being smug about not having one... I could probably rant for a very long time about the reasons I don't like Apple as a company anymore, but you asked about the phones and this isn't really the place. Fingers crossed the AppTek guys will develop their software for Android and Windows Phone too in the near future. Eude
  7.
you're very mistaken about the reasons of many like me to avoid Apple... Money is not the issue at all
Well put, I use Apples for my work, and kind of at home, (although I'm trying to transition back to Windows at the moment, think 10 might be worth waiting for), but I could have an iPhone if I wanted one, the rub is that I don't want one. Eude
  8.
A down side is the apple only support.
\ Bugger, Apple only?! That's annoying and lazy in this day and age, there's a hell of a lot more non-Apple smartphones out there, I guess it's more to do with the folks who make the software than anything else though. Oh well, one thing crossed off the GAS list, that's a shame, I guess my wife will be pleased... Eude

    Sansamp question
I think its to do with changeover times/ stage space saving. It's really annoying though, I don't see the issue with using the sansamp as my stompbox then taking the DI from the head, but then again I'm no sound engineer! Using the amp as my stage monitor, should I use the output or parallel output on the sansamp in conjuction with the DI?
The output should give you the effected tone from the pedal, the parallel, the uneffected tone, pretty sure anyway, it's one or the other That sound man sounds like an ass by the way, quick turn-around's are one thing, but not giving you what you need through the PA and monitors is unprofessional. You might not be a sound guy, but I bet you'd try your best to give the bands and the individual band members what they want. Eude
  10.
They do a V3, 115 and 410 cabinet as well.
They do a rather tasty 112 cab now too as it happens.
  11. Very cool mate, I seriously like these little basses, but feel they definitely need some tweaks to bring them up to speed. What you're proposing will certainly get you there too, and the matched headstock will make it all kinds of classy. What pickups are you going to pop in there? The stock ones are strat guitar pups from what I've read! Are you going to change the tuners from something a little more fitting too? Eude
  12. I got one of their compressor pedals and I'm quite happy with it. I'm pretty new to compression, so not really sure how it compares, but I like it Eude
  13.
Very slight change in spec for the Recurve. It's now going to be installed with the multi-coil pickups.
Awesome news mate, you won't regret it, the MC pickups are amazing! Eude
  14.
It's a real shame Ashdown have to come on here defending themselves like this, especially from ignorant comments about frequency response. They are a British success in a worldwide market, I understand people may not "get" the product but it seems to have turned into an unnecessary flaming a la the Barefaced threads. Let's leave this one be shall we
Here here! I personally think it's a great idea, and I think you're right that folks should really try something before they offer up such condemning opinions. Seeing a breakdown of what you get for your £599, it's hard to argue on the price! I'm in the market for something similar, but I don't currently need all the extras, would there be a "B-Social Lite" in the pipe line, just as a wired high end product without the wireless and recording? Keep up the good work Ashdown Eude
  15. Thanks for the comments guys. I'm delighted with this bass, I really am. I'm glad you appreciate the sound samples too, crazy thing is, this is all just using the filters wide open, at least on the repetitive piece, so those tones are only scratching the surface! I'll try and do some more examples using the filters soon, but the 3 ditties at the end have tones sculpted using the filters, but without combining the pickups. I'm going to do some more recordings with my other ACGs soo, including my fretless where the filter preamp really excels!
Killer bass. I've been in touch with Alan about a possible lefty. Love the look of this one. Were we talking crazy money here?
Not crazy money, especially when you consider what it would cost to have another luthier produce something similar. Alan's prices are amazing value for money, but with the basses being custom, the pricing varies. Your best bet is to speak to the man himself, but I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised!
Bass looks great! Sounds fantastic too, especially the bridge pickup! Good call on getting it in a MM sweetspot and thanks for the sound samples
Yup, I think the bridge pickup going in the MM location was a real success. I'm not a big fan of thin sounding bridge pickups, and although that's not been a problem on any ACG I've owned previously, I love that MM sweetspot tone, so it was a no brainer Eude
  16. Have posted a new topic in Gear Porn with some more pics and sound samples >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254291-acg-krell-sc-e-type-5-string/ This bass is absolutely amazing... Eude
  17. I received a new ACG custom bass just before Xmas and I've finally had to time to record some samples and take some sexy photos. Here's one picture for starters >> The bass is phenomenal, better than I could ever have hoped. It balances beautifully on a strap and particularly on the lap. The natural tone of the instrument has a massive amount of punch and clarity, but using the preamp you can go from rootsy P Bass to super aggressive modern tones. Here's the bass spec >> Krell SC E Type Bolt-on 5 strings 33" Scale Swamp Ash Body with Flamed Maple Top, whole body "coloured in" black. 5 piece Maple/Wenge/Purpleheart Neck Pau Ferro Fingerboard 45mm Nut Width 18mm Spacing at the Bridge Black Hardware throughout including Gotoh Resolite Tuners and Hipshot B Type Bridge ACG PB pickup and RFB pickup, as close to the MM and Precision bass sweet spots as possible, adjusted for the shorter scale length and customised to fit in 40mm casings Series/Parallel/Singlecoil switch for the RFB ACG DFM 4K A/P Pre-amp consisting of 2 low pass filters, switchable treble boost, mid boost and a passive tone with active/passive switching. OK, here's some more pics >> Little picture showing the beveled edge detail >> Finally, a picture showing the new SC Bolt-on neck joint, which really is a thing of beauty giving you fantastic access along with that nice bolt-on attack >> OK, and now some sound samples >> https://soundcloud.com/eudeboy/sets/acg-krell-sc-e-type-sample-sounds The first lot of clips takes you through all the standard sounds available, playing the same line over and over, apologies for my playing. There's then a few ditties showing some more tweaked sound available and use of the low B, which on this bass is amazing! It's really clear, defined and punchy Yet again ACG have pulled it out the bag for me big time, I couldn't be happier, bar the fact I can't surrently afford to order some more ACGs... Any questions, just shoot. Eude
  18. Oh yes, been thinking about a single 2x12 solution lately, and thought given my budget I'd have to have something heavier, but that 2x12 is near £350
  19. I misread that as Dr. Bass, but I can't find anything about "DB Cabs", bar the Aguilar DB ones...
  20. I'd steer clear, at least for now. Things seemed to go belly up for them a coupe of years back >> http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/directory/dr-bass Frustratingly, their cabs have had rave reviews. I hope whatever the cause of the problems was has been dealt with and that Dr Bass are back on track soon. Eude
  21. I won too! I don't win anything either, quite chuffed! Not sure what I'm being sent, perhaps there'll be something waiting for me when I get home, I hope it's at least a 5 string set otherwise I'll need to buy a low B to get started Looking forward to trying these out though, have heard very good things. Eude
  22. Wow, that turned out nice
  23. That does look fantastic, massive congratulations mate!
  24.
That makes my brain ache lol Si
It’s not actually all that complicated I approach it like this: Set the tone to get the fundamental sound, then use the low filter to dial in a bit more detail, low mids etc, this can obviously effect the brightness of the sound, to I’ll pop the treble boost if necessary (useful for bright/aggressive sounds). The mid boost is useful depending on what you end up doing with the low filter, you can use it to get a bit more pop back into the sound. You can obviously set the low filter per pickup and blend the two to create a more complex sound too. I'll be bringing it along to the London Bass Guitar Show if you fancy a shot on it... Eude
  25.
This gets my vote for bass of the year that I shouldn't like but I do!

Wow! Stunning bass. Congrats! RK
Thanks guys, I'm most chuffed with this bass. I should also have some sound samples sorted before I go back to work on the 5th of January too. Eude
