Hm those standards look interesting - and very good value too.
I've played quite a few ACG J Type 5ers and they were very nice indeed, as an owner of an ACG 6 string, I can confirm that ACG make very good 6ers too Definitely worth investigating I reckon. Eude

ACG are doing a new series called "Standard", a 5 string 25 fret J Type for £1100, and a 6 string for £1175 >> Specs here >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/standard-basses/standard-specification/ Quite a bit of customisation on offer, and completely hand made Well worth a look I reckon.
Nope, the designer has posted regularly on TB and last I heard they are at pre-production sample stage, meaning field trials to confirm final build spec are happening, or about to very shortly. Sounds likes a realistic release date around NAMM (late Jan.) is in the works.
Nice one mate, thanks for chiming in. That IS good news. That might give me enough time to save up for a MiniMega Eude
Bit of a thread dredge and revival. Anyone heard news about these amplifiers? My hope of the minimax being released in the sub £200 category by the end of the year seem rather too optimistic.
Not heard a peep since the launch, its been a bit too long I reckon, I think they've probably put these heads to bed

ACG are doing a 6 string J Type now >> Ridiculous value for money too. Eude
ACG uber spec bass
+1

Bass Direct have one of those Xotic J 6's inside your budget >> http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Xotic_XJ6_Ash_maple.html Just sayin' My only concern with the Ken Smith is that they have a pretty modern sound, which might limit your applications. You might want to consider something a little more versatile?... Eude

You could speak to Newtone strings, they could wind strings to your requirements, using a thicker core than usual for better tension etc. Dreadbass on here gets custom sets for his ACG basses, he goes down to E, the E below low E that is! Would be a lot cheaper to try a custom set than buy a new bass... Eude

Yup, Roqsolid stuff is great! They're a hell of a lot more than just a rain cover, hence the cost. If all you want is to keep the water off, then you're best bet is going down the route you're already on, if you want to protect the cabs from bumps and scrapes too, then you need to spend a little more Eude

Looks like the pickups are in then Eude
Yet another example of excellent customer service.
Very nice to see
We have also said we will build you one the same as your existing cab so there's nothing to be disappointed by really...
You can't expect any more than that
Harsh, but true.

In other news: Having spend a while trying to find a Jazz bass I like (but to no avail) I have commissioned an ACG 'Jazz' bass with all the bits I like. More on this story later...
You're a horrid horrid tease...

Lovely work as always mate!
Yes, definitely going to the London show. Earplugs at the ready! RK
Excellent, I'll be there all weekend. I'll make sure I bring the new bass along too Eude

Beautiful bass Kev, congrats mate.
Dare I say the Recurve looks even better than the Wal. Difficult to achieve but a very fine looking bass.
I wholeheartedly agree mate, that ACG is a lovely example of the evolution of bass Eude
I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried these ( on Prime Bass/Stephen's old Zebrano ACG) - The asymmetric neck was immediately comfortable, and makes so much sense in that the further you have to reach toward the fatter strings, the less wood gets in the way, if that makes sense
Its definitely the way forward Eude
Hi Ewan, good to see that the GAS ailment is obviously incurable, ha ha! This build looks awesome, I am subscribed now. I've been locked inside my new amp for a week or two, but I'll be following this build with interest now. Hope you are well, and that we can catch up in Moffatt again. RK
Hey mate, good to hear from you. Yup, the GAS never really ever goes away. Glad you approve of the build, I thought you might I saw your amp thread, I see it was worth the wait. I'll hopefully make the next Moffat Bash, fingers crossed. I'll definitely be at the London Bass Guitar Show next year if you're going to make an appearance? Eude
I'll get back to you. WoT might be better placed to answer in the meantime? These are the first cabs I've had without tweeters for a while, but I'd gradually been turning them down and then off. My initial reaction is, I'm not going to miss them. The mids and highs are so nice and musical, I think the cabs are going to work wonderfully in a band. The higher notes already really sing without the tweeter.

Well...there's a place for tweeters, and they're really a part of some people's sound, but personally speaking I don't miss them one jot. Even on all the Berg cabs I've owned, I just found them clacky. And when I rolled the tweeters back, I always felt I was left with lows and no clarity. The TKS's have upper mids which seem to let the character of the bass bloom, without any fizz. If you need more, pushing the upper mids and highs on the amp gives you more clarity, with all the brittle unpleasantness rolled off in a really natural way. It's a godsend for flats, 'cos it leaves that 'woodiness' intact, and with rounds I can get a growl which sits perfectly in the mix without any harshness. Here's a couple of clips which I think / hope illustrate the point. The first two involve my S212, which sounds just like my pair of S112s did. Jump to 1m30s on this for the nearest I'll ever get to slapping. Which is really nothing of the sort, but... Hope this helps...
Thanks guys, and as you know as much as it does help, it doesn't really help, if you know what I mean. You have fueled the GAS, again... Eude
-
Lovely set up mate! So you went without tweeters too? I came very close to getting some of these a little while back, but life got in the way, as it does, maybe next year. Anyway, I was wondering if I could live without a tweeter, so I'm very interested to hear how you think the compare to gear you've had in the past once you've had a bit of time with them. Cheers, Eude
