1.
I've just received a very interesting email from Mike Walsh at Purple Chili. Two 112's, 400W @ 8ohms each, Eminence Delta 12FLA drivers, not sure of the overall cab weight, just within budget. Hmmmm Actually, just one cab of 400W @ 4ohms would probably be OK. I'll ask for a price and weight.
Was just about to suggest that Mike would be a good bet. He makes amazing cabs and every one I've seen have been nicely finished and incredibly light! Plus they're made right here in the UK Eude
 2.
You, dear sir, know your stuff!
Nice
 3. Really nice work mate! What amp are you going to put in it?
 4.
I also believe that having a loving craftsman building a one off instrument imparts a certain energy to it. I think it'll feel different from a factory made bass; almost like eating a chocolate muffin versus eating a chocolate muffin a friend baked for you, if I'm making any sense.
Absolutely! I've, personally, never felt any new Fender to be anything special regardless of price, older very played in ones are a different story however. For the price of a new American Fender you can get a lot more bass for your money if you speak to a good luthier, plus you get all their passion and energy driven into the wood itself, something you'll never get from a production line... 5.
That looks like a nice compact one cab setup for most gigs!
Indeed! One of those and a massively powerful head, say a Carvin B1000 (which has really piqued my interest of late), would be an amazingly compact, powerful and versatile setup... I would guess 2 would be overkill... Eude
 6. Graft spec ACGs start at £875 (£795 for passive) for a 33" 5er with 2 band EQ, tuned E-C if that's what you want. All models have 24 frets and good access to the dusty end. I can wholeheartedly recommend Alan's basses Eude
 7. Thanks for taking the time to write up such a detailed build thread, I look forward to watching this come to life
 8. Great to see main stream brands trying some of the more forward thinking ideas.
 9. This is all great news! And thanks to mike for an extended dialogue via PM too. Eude
 10.
unfortunately i have never played a German Thumb so can't compare the sound but if they sound anything like this PS i am now gasing for one of them now It really is a fantastic bass though,i love it.
No bother mate, I was just listening back to old recording I made when I had a German Thumb BO 5 string. There's a very distinct tone to the bass, which you can't dial out, but luckily it's a good tone and it really cuts through. I know the PS versions have the same body wood, pickups and hardware, so was just wondering if that same voice is present. I don't play long scale basses anymore, but if I did, I'd already have one of these PS thumb basses, they look amazing value! Enjoy it mate, Eude
 11.
Well my Pro Series Thumb bass arrived this morning & wow ! What a lovely piece of kit it is.
You had any experience of the German Bolt-on Thumb? Just wondering if the tone is similar...?
 12.
Looks like this a know issue as I contacted them and had no problems in returning it for repair like you guys, mines due back today so i'll let you know how it sounds. Could possibly be using this for a gig Friday, if I do i'll let you know what I think
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on the whole rig mate
 13.
Using a Genz Benz focus 1x15. Haven't found another to go with it yet, not making them anymore I believe. Been using a TC BG250 which is plenty loud enough for me at the moment.
Nice one mate, I'm sure one of them will pop up eventually, have heard good things about them, shame Genz Benz have been dissolved...
 14.
Came back today repaired, fault gone, extremely loud now. Will give it a go at band practice tomorrow.
Good stuff What cabs are you using with it?
 15.
For those interested I decided to go for the ACG as it makes much more sense and think it's an amazing looking bass and not a single person has had any issues aside from Scooby with the weight issue. I'm really excited to give this a try and if it's not for me, i can always shift it on and not lose any money. Worse comes to the worse i can pick up a Limelight in the future as I have begun talking to mark. For those interested Mark's speed of response to my email was excellent and I will update you all with my thoughts on the ACG when i get it sorted with Reggieboomboom. Thanks for all your responses!
Fantastic news mate, I'm sure you won't be disappointed
 16. Oh I should add, when I got it back, the notes on the repair said the amp had been modified to meet revised spec. Eude
 17. Had the same problem with mine, identical set up. I sent it back to be repaired, started the process here >> http://ashdownmusic.com/support/technical/ Pretty swift and painless. Annoying to have to send anything back so soon, but they'll sort you right out, they do a 5 year warranty on their amps! Also, I'd be keen to hear how you get on with this set up live, I'm not gigging at all at the moment, would be nice to hear if the set up works well, feel free to PM or whatever about it if you have time mate, and good luck with the fix Eude
 18. ACG Basses are amoung the finest custom instruments out there in my experience. I've played nothing but ACGs for quite a while now, and it's highly unlikely that'll ever change now. Difficult to make a direct comparison, as the two basses you're looking at are wildly different. One point I can make though, is that the ACG gives you a massive amount of variety in one beautiful instrument and will get you pretty close to a P Bass tone with some work on the preamp. A P Bass will only sound like a P Bass, but that's the reason a lot of folks like 'em. Here's some more videos for you though... http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/acg-harlot-mkii-6-string-demo-from-cocos-bassment/ http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/acg-uber-graft-j-type-5-demo-from-cocos-bassment/ http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/acg-graft-finn-4-demo-by-cocos-bassment/ Eude
 19.
Afraid not as I've got a replacement indeed, sorry!
No bother mate, I appreciate you taking the time to come back to me anyways Good luck with the sale! Eude
 20. Incredibly long shot here, but would you be interested in a trade for a MiBass 2.0 (mint condition, only a few months old and never used outside the house) with some cash your way? I appreciate you've already replaced this, but worth a shot... Eude
 21.
Big gauge starts at 130 for the low b , 120 would be too light.
130 isn't too heavy, I use that on my 33" scale basses I was expecting to hear you say something like 145... Eude
 22. Oh, and what do you mean by "Big Gauge"?... What exact gauges are you thinking?
 23. Beautiful! Really would love to hear this bass! I see Tom will make any of his basses in shorter scales, very cool!
