My advice would be to go for as compact and as light a 1x12 as you can find. I've just gone for 2 x Ashdown Mi10 cabs, would be perfect for lugging around on the bus etc. but you might struggle a bit with a single cab. My setup would be one cab at home, two for gigs. As MOSCOWBASS says above, a single 10 will fart out on its own at high volumes. I believe the Mi10 cabs are based on the EA Wizzy 10. I would suggest the Ashdown Mi12 cab, but I know its one of the larger designs on the market, so probably not suited to your needs. Same goes for the Genz Benz Focus 112 unfortunately. Maybe a Schroeder 1x12? As suggested above, they are proper light, and the Mini112 is very compact. I heard a Bareface Midget at the Moffat Bass Bash, and although I've never been a fan of the look or build of the Barefaced cabs, they are constantly improving, and man alive, that Midget REALLY filled the room, I was VERY impressed with that aspect of it, oh and they are insanely light too. Might be worth checking that one of them out? For the record, that was a regular, i.e. non tweetered version and it didn't need one in my opinion. Your other options include an Aggie SL cab perhaps? Cheers, Eude

Here's my little MiBass Rig. Very pleased with it too Eude

Here's a little pic of my rig. It is a pretty darned impressive little set up! It sounds really good with the gain dimed using my ACG Skelf (Prototype) Guitar too Eude

Quick update. This little rig is amazing. Had a little trouble at the start, dutifully repaired by the good guys at Ashdown, and now its just perfect. It actually sounds pretty good with my ACG Skelf (Prototype) Guitar too, the distortion you can dial in with the gain knob sounds very nice with it. (one very happy) Eude
I would look at an ACG
+1
Im getting it identical in every way ! I shall post some pics of the twins as soon as I get it.
Cool, not tempted by a 6 string then? Bass by the way, even if you do piccolo it up...
Got it strung E to C and it works really well. I can't wait to get an E to C piccolo. Yes Adrian seems really cool
Nice one, what kind of spec you going for on the new one? We'll need more pics you know...

Very nice mate! Have you got this tuned B to G? These basses have had my attention for a while now, a 6 string version is very much on my Bucket List. Adrian from Public Peace is a really nice guy too Eude
As I have no evidence with which to rebut your suspicion, all I can say is ask me how it's doing in a year's time - the first year of my five year warranty.
Having previously owned and loved my original Promethean Combo, I was amazed at just how good your Red Sub clone sounded mate. It's not nearly as elegant in design as the Ibanez but it was very solid and built to last, a bit bigger than the Ibanez and a bit too carpety for my liking, but in a blindfold test I don't think you could tell the difference. If I'm in the market for a Promethean again, I'd happily go for a clone having now managed to audition one Eude
That's reassuring. Never thought of it like that. I've just never liked the sound of horns in any cab. I have ocassionally had to play through cabs with non-defeatable horns, and have EQd out some treble to compensate but always found that it adversely affected the rest of my tone as I generally go for a trebly, driven tone anyway. Food for thought. I was looking at the Ashdown VS cabs but can't find any info about them anywhere! But that probably deserves it's own thread.
I'm not sure they're making the VS cabs anymore, but they're certainly more along the lines of what I think you're looking for, albeit a bit hefty. The Little Bastard Cabs, 1x12 and 2x12, where apparently much lighter versions of the VS ones, if you can find any. Maybe try giving Ashdown a shout, they might have some older stock kicking around? I can give you an email for a good guy at the firm if you want, send me a PM. Eude

Oh, by the way, the Mi10 Cabs have a whizzer design, like the EA 10" cabs, not exactly sure how it works, but it's a lot more subtle than a tweeter/horn. A much more natural sounding cab in general, I'm very happy with mine so far. Eude
An alternative would be to just place something in front of the tweeter like an old sock to tame it!
You could also just EQ out some of what the tweeter would reproduce? You should be able to cut highs with most EQ's... Eude
Interesting... Is this doable?
Wouldn't that change the ohmage of the cab?

I've got a MiBass 2.0 and 2 of the Mi10 cabs, the new 8 Ohm versions, and I'm mightily impressed. A lot of output for such small cabs. You need to crank the bass a bit to get some nice thick meaty low end but its all there Eude
I thought I could use a bit of the odd morning sunshine
Gorgeous!

I've recently bought myself a MiBass 2.0 and 2 x Mi10 Cabs and I'm suitably impressed! The little 10" cabs need to be worked a bit to get a nice thick low end but it's all there. Although I'm not gigging, or even playing all that much right now, I'll get to try it with a tame band at the Moffat Bass Bash a week on Sunday. On the whole I'm enormously pleased so far. Enjoy your new rig mate! Eude
-
Righto, I finally got the whole thing up and running, and I'm VERY pleased. Adding the additional cab adds a whole lot more weight to the sound, again as I mentioned above, its not producing much in the way of trouser flapping lows, but treated right you can get a very thick solid low end from these little cabs So all in, this is am impressive little rig. One cab is plenty for home practice, or I can use the headphone jack if I get too many complaints from my detractors! Adding the second cab really makes this a gig ready set up, it'll easily handle a loud drummer and work perfectly for on stage monitoring at louder gigs. If, at some point, I need to shift a bit more air, I'll just pick up an Ashdown 4 Ohm 2x12 and pop the little head on top. Will try and get some pics when I can Eude

Not managed to get everything altogether in one place yet, life is a bit complicated at the moment and I was waiting for Roqsolid to send out the "Powerbag" I ordered so I could carry the cabs back from work on the train. They're compact and very light, but still not much fun on public transport or walking anything over a mile. Anyway, I got one home last night and had a quick blast this morning. The build quality is top notch, very solid indeed, especially the head, wonderfully finished and sturdy. Through headphones the amp sounds quite modern but can get quite dirty, when you dial the gain back its almost hifi, but taking it up to overdriving it sounds lovely, dirty and punchy without being too spiky if that makes sense? The gain circuit is designed to overdrive nicely rather than clip, would be cool if it was switchable, but I do appreciate the simple and uncluttered design of this little amp. Through the one cab, its not quite as "surprisingly huge for the size" as the Promethean running flat, but having said that its a very nice noise, just not quite as bassy. You can dial all that in however using the thankfully simple 3 band EQ. There's also a lot of volume on tap, seemingly more than the Promethean. If all goes well, I'll get the second cab home tonight and give the whole thing a go tomorrow morning. I reckon two of these cabs will be pretty powerful and the whole modular thing should give me everything I could need for a little while. I'll be back once I've had a plonk through the whole rig.
Alan would probably make your dream bass at about £1000 less than your budget...and it would easily be as good as anything on the market at any higher price point.
Entirely my experience, I've played basses 2 and 3 times the cost of my ACGs and most didn't even come close
-
Yup, give Alan at ACG a shout, he can make you your dream bass within your budget! Eude
Can you post an impression on the Promethean vs Mibass rigs?
Of course mate I'm currently stuck, as I got the rig delivered to my work and need to get it home a piece at a time on public transport, a great test for the portability, but I need a bag for the cabs, before I can do it. I've ordered one of these >> http://amplifiercoversonline.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=107_90&products_id=3446 Hopefully it'll be here next week and I can get the thing home and set up! So far, one thing I can comment on is the build quality. The head and cabs are VERY nicely made, very solid. The cabs are about the same size as my old Promethean combo, near enough anyway. Was a little disappointed to see no Speakon jack, but I guess you can't have everything. I'm expecting big things from this little rig and I get the feeling I'm not going to be disappointed In a few weeks I'll be taking it up to Scotland for the Moffat Bass Bash, so I'll get to try it out at war volume with a tame band, so I'll report back after that too. Cheers, Eude
100% agree. Just paying for a distributor. I would buy more Aggie gear, but the fact I bought a DB212 brand new for £650 and the latest DB112s are almost that is just...crackers.
Yup, if money was no object, I'd likely have an Aggie rig, or certainly a couple of GS112 cabs that's for sure, but having bought a GS112 new several years ago for a little more than £300, the new prices make me actually wince! I'll stick with what I've got for now I reckon Eude
