Just another +1 for ACG from me. Some of the finest basses I've ever played, and very happy to own, and the build quality surpasses or at the very least matches pretty much everything I've ever laid eyes on, and that includes a lot of what people consider to be very high end builders. There's a lot of designs to choose from, and with the J Type and potentially a P Type on the way, there's something for the more traditionally minded bass player. The ACG Filter preamp takes the Wal principal and then builds on it giving similar(ish) application with far wider results. There's also several versions of the preamp available now too, the original EQ01, the EQ03 with added low and mid boosts, active/passive switching and tone control, and now the SEQ which is a simplified version which feels a lot more like a standard tone/tone setup but offering much much more. The new MC series pickups which are only available in the Uber Spec basses are unlike anything I've ever heard before, incredibly full range, open and hifi sounding. Even response and tone from the lowest open string to the highest notes on the G string, on the original Uber Spec Recurve I tried at the London Bass Show last year. This gives you as much of the tone of your bass and every nuance of your playing, for better or worse, to then do with as you will. I'm going to be ordering another ACG early 2014, if I can stretch to it, I'll be going for an Uber Spec too Just my 2p, other luthiers are available, but given your proximity to Moffat, you'd be mad to at least not pay Alan a visit Eude

Just to second Dread Bass's comments, check out ACG, seriously Eude
If you like the tonal characteristics of a Stingray but want the slimmer neck then check out the EBMM Sterling.

EB make a Ray with a narrower neck, it's called a SLO Special - they're not exactly common, but you can get them. The Sterling has a narrower neck, too.
+1 The Sterling can sound a little more brittle/aggressive than the Stingray, but they still make "that sound" and they have a more Jazz-a-like neck, or you could see about a custom order Ray with the SLO profile Eude
Currently really happy now I have an Aguilar AG500sc head with my GS112's ... Great tone, really suits me! Also since my Genz Neo-Pak died recently .... I have a Shuttle 6.2 filling it's shoes.... between the two... I'm happier than I've ever been!...
Brilliant Rig!
Based on what I've heard, i'd agree with this. Drop Tommy a line - he'll give you the lowdown...

I don't play a six string, so keep that in mind. But, I do have a pair of W2126, and I have heard most of the TKS cabs The speakers with the extra 6 for mids and highs are more full range in sound. Not everybody's cup of tea, but personally I would have gone for a 1126.
Thanks guys, much appreciated. I think it'll be a 1126 and a powerful amp by the looks of things then I do like the idea of a single cab setup to be honest, I used to gig with a single Aggies GS112 a while back, was so nice being able to move all my gear in one trip.
Sorry :-)
Its OK. I need to try and sort out a new setup next year, still dithering about going for two 112's like yourself but with one tweeter, or a single 1126. In your opinion, what do you think would be better to replicate the full range of 6 string bass? I'll be selling some effects, and the Promethean to fund this next step, but I think it'll be a good move Eude
Here's a pr0n shot from Saturday night. I swear to god... running both of these cabs together - which I don't get to do very often - is nirvana.
Please stop... Eude

Another vote for an ACG Graft J Type. Choice of 33", 34" or 35" scale. High quality components, Hipshot, Gotoh etcs. Choice of pickups, singlecoil, humbucking and precision style, any combination you want, all custom hand wound by Armstrong Pickups for ACG. 45mm nut, 18mm spacing at the bridge. Completely hand made with incredible attention to detail. 5 string passive for £795 or active, with some John East bits and bobs for £875, insane value for money </2p> Eude

I'm intrigued by these cabs. I've always been interested in trying to make my own cabs, partly down to not being able to afford the kind of cabs I'd like, my only concern would be getting a professional enough finish to keep me happy. Having said that, I might have a go at one of these next year...
Skim the body and apply a thick veneer? Nicer looking than a piece of plastic. No disrespect to your Wal, Eude. That's a fantastic looking bass.
Not my bass, just an example of the pickguard I found online! I've never even played a Wal, one day maybe. If a veneer is possible, I think that would certainly be the best bet too, but I think Bass Doc has already potentially ruled that out... Eude
-
I did cringe a little when I saw whats been done to that bass, but at the end of the day, they're for playing, not looking at, so whatever works for you is the right thing. If I was you, I would go for a pickguard to hide the wood insert, with the best intentions, wood stain wood help, but it'll never be a perfect match. Some of the old Wal pickguards are big enough to hide a multitude of sins, and I'm sure Bass Doc could design up something sympathetic of the original Wal style pickguard that is adapted to hide the grizzly bits... Something like this example below, with similar pickup locations wouldn't be too far off the mark and could be made with black plastic Anyway, best of luck with it, I look forward to seeing how it all turns out! An elusive beast is the Warwick singlecut 6-string...
And once you've done that check out ACG - get a lot of love on here and their Recurve could possibly be of interest.
+1! If its just the singlecut aspect of the the Thumb Bass SC 6 string you like, I would definitely consider some UK based luthiers. You can't go far wrong with ACG, I've got of them, 3 of them singlecuts and they're sublime Eude -
VERY exciting mate, can't wait to see the finished article! Eude
They will actually. If they think its good enough. Warwick are cool like that.
I asked about a 32" set neck Dolphin 6 string, based around their old TCS model a while ago, and it was met with an "absolutely not"... Obviously wasn't good enough :-(
Very cool Warwick do have a custom-shop you know Si
They won't do modifications on the physical shape of their designs though...
Not really worth +1,000,000 though, is it
Depends on whether or not the OP ends up with a Fodera, and which model, some of them cost about that don't they? Eude
-
Well you say that, but the guy was asking for advice, should he go for a Fodera or two Fenders? When someone asks a question like that it suggests they don't really know very much about basses, or about what they want from a bass. So he clearly needs advice.
Whoops, I only meant to quote this bit...
But do get back to us and let us know what you thought/bought!
Eude
I'm going to Bass Gear on Saturday to try their Monarch and while I'm there I'll try out a load of their other basses. Thanks for the input all.
A splendid idea mate, I really hope you find the special bass you're looking for
There is a lot of inverse-snobbery at times on here. People will try to tell you that you can do everything you need with a Fender P bass... It's your money, do what the heck you like with it! But do get back to us and let us know what you thought/bought!
+1,000,000 Eude

In my opinion, you'd be nuts to spend Fodera money without trying one. I'm absolutely sure that it would play beautifully, and the build quality will wipe the floor with the other basses you're considering, but I personally didn't get on with the tone of the ones I've tried, more of a solo bass than a bass bass if that makes sense? May well be right up your street. These guys have a few Foderas in stock >> http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product-category/bass-guitars/fodera/ I'm not sure how far away they are from you, but as suggested above, if you're dropping that kind of money, you should consider spending a bit of cash to go try one out first.
That looks a lot more chunky, less sleek so to speak. No pun intended. I wanted an elegant looking design so I chose to keep it curvy.
Totally appreciate that, the whole singlecut things are marmite enough, before you even start looking at different designs... It will be a fair bit chunkier as it's based around a 6 string 32" bass.
I much prefer this one!!!!
Thanks dude.

I had Beavs Graphics, who used to do renderings for very little money do me a Dolphin Singlecut 6er a while back. What do you reckon? Eude

For those of you who don't drive or live in inner city areas...
eude replied to tayste_2000's topic in Amps and Cabs
An Ibanez Promethean 1X10 Combo, if you can find a good one, or one of the clones would do you right. I think it puts out near enough 300W into its little 10" speaker and it copes with it very well and I used mine at loads of gigs in Edinburgh, and if you need to be louder, there's usually always a PA at that kind of venue. You can always pop the 500W head out and use it with any cabs that are kicking around too... -
If circumstances were different I would have these cabs in a hot minute! I've got plenty of space, I'm based in South London, but I just don't have time to play at the moment, never mind try out new gear and help pass demo gear around. Truly rotten timing :-(

Nice spec mate! Really looking forward to watching this pan out.
