Sweet, but all of those ACGs are.
Too right might I'm a lucky pup!

Not got long, but I received a very nice delivery today. ACG Finn SC Classic 33" Fretless. This bass absolutely sings, I just need to learn how to play it in tune Will post some proper pictures soon, I should really get a family shot, seeing as this is my 4th ACG Eude

Nice spec mate! Will this be your first 33"? You'll love it Eude
All passive, controls are volume, tone and 4 way pickup selector (neck, both series, both parallel, bridge)
The 4-way selector provides a surprisingly wide range of tones, when I first heard about it, it was interesting but I wasn't sure I would replace a pan control with it, but I am a total convert! I've got it on my ACG Finn 4 string and its absobloody-brilliant! It also has a very satisfying feel as you switch through the settings. Eude
Thanks Eude, assumed the cabs were the same ohmage, does seem a strange decision.
Yeah, I find it a very silly decision, I guess they're going for a super portable option when running a MiBass head, perfect for double bass players etc. If I was Ashdown I'd have made it available at 4 and 8 Ohms, as some folks might want to run a 2 x 1x10 stack with their heads. Anyway, I'd go for 2 x Mi12 Cabs, you're giving me Ashdown GAS... Eude
Is it another passive or has this one a preamp of some sort?
Looks like it to me!
Hello, I have the 550 head and Mi12 cab. I am interested in adding another cab, should I go for another Mi12 or would a Mi10 be worth a look? Thanks
The Mi10 is, rather foolishly in my opinion, a 4 Ohm cab, so as far as I'm aware you won't be able to run it with the 8 Ohm Mi12 cab as it would draw the whole 4 Ohm load on its own. Your only option would be another Mi12 Cab, and that's not a bad one, I think that would make for an awesome and very flexible set up! Eude

Wow that is absolutely gorgeous mate, congrats! These Graft Basses are insanely good value for money Eude
I've known about this for some time as I asked Jon Shuker if he could make me a lightweight, 5-string Jazz bass. He mentioned he was prototyping a new bass for JJB and explained how the body was going to be constructed. Sounded perfect for me as well so I asked him to build similar for me although I'm going for a slightly downsized Jazz-style body instead of the P bass shape and a set-neck which means even more weight saving. Jon seems fairly optimistic he can get close to a 7 lb bass for me. Still a couple of months to completion (I must chase him up on progress) but I'll post an update/review when I pick up the bass. Specs are: 5-string Jazz body with set neck. Flamed maple neck with vintage tint, rosewood board & MOP blocks. Finished in Sonic Blue with matching head stock & a Tort plate. I'm going for an extra mint green plate too and decided on a P/J configuration with a passive-only circuit, so vol/pan/tone controls. Oh and some neck LED's to finish it all off! Cannae wait.
Wow, that sounds well cool mate! Any pics of this "in progress"?... Eude
Play what you like and try anything but also try not to be affected by pre-conceptions - difficult I know, in the largely fashion and image driven music biz. My logic went something like this... Used to use detuning or bass pedals to reach down to the depths. Wanted the convenience of being able to do that without all the paraphernalia. Ordered my first 5 string from Wal in '92. Liked it a lot. Used it quite a bit but still used 4s a lot too. Ordered a milestone birthday bass from Alembic in '98. Obviously, it would be a 5 :-) but then the extra cost of making it a 6 was inconsequential - so why not! Liked it a lot and the transition from 5 to 6 much easier for me than the transition from 4 to 5. I now have two sixes, 3 fives and the rest are all fours. I use them all coz that's what they're for. One thing to note - if you're not completely rooted in the traditional bass role as a player, once you start to make up parts using extended range basses, it's relatively easy to paint yourself into a corner and find that there are one or two songs in the set that you can't physically play without the extra range. This goes against my own ethos as I like to be able to choose what basses I'm going to be playing that night almost as I go out the door. Suddenly, you are restricted in choice because you "need" a 5 or 6 for certain songs. Hey ho - it's all part of the endless conundrum that is being a bass player! Open minds are good. Cheers Ed
Nice summary mate, I completely agree. I play 4, 5 and 6 string basses, feel most comfortable on 6 strings for some reason, not sure why, but I tend to always pick a 6er up first. The most important thing is the playing, not what you're play it on, there are pros and cons to any instrument choice, one players' marmite is another's mustard, or something like that. The OP is nearly is valid as asking if black basses sound better than red ones in my opinion. 5 and 6 string basses are just as valid as 4 strings, 3 string, 1 strings, 10 strings or whatever anyone else dreams up and wants to play Eude

A good test for me is our house, the previous owner bodged pretty much everything throughout his stay here, and I'm going to have to replace all the electrics, they just aren't safe. Anyway, there's only a couple of sockets, which I've tried that cause a bit of hum when one of the SBs is soloed on my 6 string, sockets that can make our hifi hum like crazy, so I guess they are not bad at all. So in summary, they're the quietest I've had, but they're always going to be a little susceptible to hum if there's weird lighting or earthing issues around, but in a good situation, they're silent. I think a PB SB combo would be pretty cool, it'd give you a nice PJ feel Eude
-
Very nice mate! Loving the contrast between the neck and body there. A 2 pickup set up would give you a lot more options, and I think the PB pickup at the front and a thinner pickup at the rear looks really cool on the Finn body >> The PB pickups apparently have a huge amount of low end available, especially with a filter preamp, so whatever you choose will afford a pretty nice contrast. In my experience, the SB pickups have a more aggressive open tone to them, and the FB pickups, a bit more focused and smoother, but still very punchy, if you have the FB wired in series it'll be darker and more low mid focused, and in parallel it'll be a but more hifi in tone. I guess it all depends what you want from it really, based on what I just wrote I'd struggle to choose, but I hope it's of some help to you... Cheers, Eude

Very nice mate and congrats on getting your job back too!

eude replied to LloydyG10's topic in Effects For Sale
Hey Eude, I couldn't tell you to be honest. I don't play active basses myself. The Chord has an inbuilt EQ that you could use to fine tune the drive sound. But for £15, it wouldn't cost you much to find out!!! ;-) Cheers buddy!!
OK, you're on - I'll take the Chord BOD-50! Will send you a PM. Eude -
The knobs have been the biggest thing. Not being able to make contact with the pots has cured all static sounds.
Well glad its all sorted dude
