1.
These cabs just go to show that small manufacturers CAN make a professional looking cabinet without compromise. These look stunning as well as having impressive design.
I've got a hunch you'd love these cabs Gareth, they do lovely muscley girth you get from an Aggie cab with hifi definition and clarity without that slightly weedy boutique cab effect. Eude
 2.
There does come a point though where he has to "make the leap" .... even the larger manufacturers have different releases of cabs whilst they improve their design
Well hopefully there'll be a leap soon. I'm as anxious about these being available as the next man, in fact it's arguably worse for me, as I've now had an extensive go of one and I'm 100% sure I want (need) one! As soon as I know anything else I'll keep this thread updated Eude
 3.
Is it just me or have the 12" cabs been in pre-production for almost a year now.....
True, but this is a solo venture for Dave, he has to be sure he's got the right product and that it is viable for him to produce. Like most start ups, it's a thing on the side, born out of a passion for good gear and frustration at what's on offer from other manufacturers. At least to start off with, he can't throw money at this for R&D like Ashdown or Genz Benz, so it takes time to work stuff out, build it and then test it. It has been a fair while, but I believe this is the 3rd, or possibly 4th iteration of these prototypes, it's not something you can rush. If you're genuinely interested in this kind of cab, I truly believe that these will be well worth the wait Eude
 4. Just a quick bumperoo. I played through one of these 1x12s on Saturday and it was an absolute revelation. Simply the best sounding 1x12 I've ever heard. It reminded me a lot of the famous Aguilar GS112, with loads of amazing low end extension but with all the clarity and poke you would expect from a boutique cab, like a Bergantino, Markbass or Vanderkley. The best of both worlds. As with the EAD 2x12 cabs the design, fitting and finish is second to none too, and this was still a prototype! These EAD cabs easily wipe the floor with anything I've ever used before, in every department, and although there's a lot of high end cabs out there I haven't had the pleasure of trying yet, I reckon the smart money would be on one of these EADs. Absolutely amazing cabs! Eude
 5. Well I had a good shot of an ACG J Type 5 string at the weekend and I'm very VERY impressed! The bass was quite light, well lighter than I thought it would be and the body was cleverly downsized from a regular jazz. Build quality is exactly what I've come to expect from ACG, simply flawless, every little detail well thought out and executed. The 5 bolt neck joint in particular was very nice, almost complete unobtrusive too, not something you usually expect from a Jazz Bass. Balance on a strap was pretty much perfect, the neck was nice and fast and the spacing was nice and comfortable, the whole thing just felt instantly familiar. Sound wise it's pretty much perfect modern Jazz Bass, nice and punchy with lots of sizzle and woof when you need it. The John East preamp gives you everything you would expect or want from an active Jazz Bass. All in, a very successful revision of the classic Jazz Bass, very much brought into the 21st century. A hell of a lot of bass for the money too Eude
 6. I've always found that 12" cabs have a bit more oomph, personally. I only have a little 1x10 combo, for now, but 10" speakers have always left me looking for a bit more natural low end. Like it's been mentioned above, a 2x12 will have a tiny bit more weight to the sound, however, I would happily sacrifice that for the practicality, flexibility and portability of 2 x 1x12 cabs any day. I have fairly limited experience of cabs compared to most folks on here, but the Aggie 1x12 cabs seem to deny the basic principals of physics. The GS112 cabs have incredibly low and solid bottom end, with the sacrifice of a bit of natural midrange, the DB112 cabs have a more low mid grunt to them, plus they're an easy one hand lift and they look pimp! I got away with a 250W LittleMark and a single Aggie GS112 for a good few years and loved it! Oh, and MarkBass gear seems to work very nicely with Aggie stuff too. Be sure to check out the GenzBenz new range of Focus cabs too, they look to be crazy value for money! based on the dimensions, I don't think they'll sound as big as the Aggies, but they might be a better match for a GB head. Just my 2p of course, and keep us posted, with pics! Eude
 7.
Yeah the style and scale suits me, but im now used to 17.5mm spacing...ill have to give it some thought.
I think the ACG J-Types are 18mm, but the Hipshot bridges do have a degree of adjustability, you could probably get close.
Quite like those ACG Jazzes Eude- quite a cool angular take on the classic, if a bit skjoldesque. Some nice J5s on the website. Anyone know the scale? Or the price? Would he whip the skinny tuners off and bung some more trad looking cloverleaf ultralights on it I wonder? I can feel GAS coming on.
They're 34" scale. I love the take on the Jazz shape too, just seems right. As far as price and alternative tuners, give Alan a shout, he couldn't be more approachable. I can answer a fair load of ACG questions too if you just want more info, just shoot me a PM, but I couldn't answer those two questions I'm afraid... ;-) Eude
 8. I love my Promethean, it ticks so many boxes, but they're hard to find at the moment. This has popped up again >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/161860-tecamp-puma-110-combo/ Does a lot of what the Promethean can do without the removable head, but is a little more "classy". Might be of interest?...
 9.
You have a PM.
Oooo - Interesting...
 10. If you're keen on a 24 fret active jazz, how about an ACG J-Type? Scoop's one is an absolute peach! >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/308/ There's a rather tasty one in stock too >> http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Available/18/ I can certainly vouch for ACGs, although I've not played a J-Type yet, I should hopefully get a noodle on one this weekend, can let you know me thoughts if you want. Cheers, Eude
 11.
Im really looking for 2x 112 as I can use it as a stack or just the single cab for small gigs
Aha! The EAD Foundation 112 >> http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/prosoundhire/foundation-112.htm
 12. What about an EAD cab? >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/152456-ead-extended-audio-design/ They absolutely kick ass!
 13. Geez! I'd love one of these! If all the offers in the queue fall through and you fancy trading for a Promethean combo and a bit of cash perhaps, let me know... Cheers, Eude
 14. More pics! More Pics! MORE PICS!
 15.
I've just gone for one of those GK MBE212 4ohms cabs - been glancing at them for months, but the shipment got delayed at least 2 times since they've been in stock. I didn't really want to go this 'budget-way' - I wanted to go for a 2nd hand Tecamp 212 cab, which was for sale up here in BC, but tight funds forced me to choose this GK thing - I'm not expecting much sound-wise, but I hope that they're reliable tech-wise at least... easy L
You might be pleasantly surprised mate, for the complaints I've read on Talkbass, and only on Talkbass, there's plenty of people are amazed at what you get for the money! Don't forget, it the same drivers and components from the higher end GK stuff, just assembled in a different box, in a different country, if it's the v1 you're getting. GK wouldn't put out a product that they weren't completely happy with. Keep us posted on how you get on mate Eude
 16. Hot damn mate! That's is amazing! You must be very chuffed
Yup, fit and finish is amazing, I can't find anything less than 100% and being a fussy sod I've looked real close, it is stunning! Tone wise it's v punchy, almost bell like with a kind of natural compression, nice!
I'd expect nothing less mate, Alan's getting pretty good at this... Eude
 17.
No more news other than what I quoted above. The NEO would probably come out slightly on top. They're braced so they'll give a tigter low end. They'll probably be about the same in volume though. Remember that the MBE is the budget range and the NEOs are GK's premium (though they're still pretty cheap, though you wouldn't guess it just from the cab) neodymium range.
Good stuff mate. I think I'm still sold on the MBE, seems to offer ludicrous value for money and I love the new look too. I reckon if they made a 1x12 MBE II cab they wouldn't be able to assemble them quick enough! Cheers, Eude
 18. So Thom, any news from your mate at Polar?... I see the GK website has all the new gear on it >> http://www.gallien-krueger.com/ The little 1x10 MBE Combo looks brilliant! Also, quick question seeing you're in the know... 2 x NEO 112 II Vs. 1 x 212 MBE II (4 Ohm) - FIGHT! - Which would win, as far as volume, low end and tone goes?... ;-) Eude
 19.
New rig. Terror Bass 500, Barefaced S12T. Lightweight and aggressive...perfect. Can't fault it!
That looks so frigging cool! Nice work!
 20. Thanks for the update dude! In fact, that reminded me that I went over everyone's head and spoke to Mr. GK himself "We are just shipping the first new versions of the MB products. The MB112 is shipping this week, the MBE cabinets are still out about 8 weeks for the US market, Europe will take another 8 weeks. Bob" I really like the new design on the MBE cabs ad combos, quite excited about the prospect and I've got about 4 months to save up too Cheers, Eude
 21.
Has anyone seen or heard the new updated Gallien MB112 II? Spotted it on Thomann and I have to say I really like it. Really nice simple look, it reminds me of a high quality PA cab with the textured finish and the embossed logo on the side. I would be really interested to see if anyone onhere has one as I am after a combo for my upright. Pics below.
Apparently the new ones are made in the US, as they had some QC issues where they got made before. I reckon it would serve you pretty darned well for upright stuff, crazy good price too! Eude
 22.
Iv since been in touch with them again and they were hesitant to answer when I suggested it was an ex demo. They also tried to tell me that Hartke "do not provide manuals with their UK stock as it is too expensive to do so". Clearly they're BSing. They're taking it back tomorrow anyway, and I'll be sending a message to Larry with photos of how his new flagship is being presented by guitarguitar.
Good result mate, take your business somewhere else, they're clearly not worthy of it! Eude
 23. Might even be worth mentioning that you asked for advice on here and there was a unanimous "send it back - they're taking the piss"...
 24.
You get a High Five if ever we meet
You're on. I'd settle for a shot of Nessie though
