Cracking rig - I had a 3500/410XL setup for years and it never once let me down, sound wise it was superb, and the ONLY reason I sold it on was due to the weight of it! Superb rig, congrats!

FOR SALE: Bass Pod XT **SOLD PENDING PAYMENT**
lukeward2004 posted a topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Hi All, As described I have a kidneybean shaped Bass Pod XT with carry case or sale. Ive had it a couple of months but it is in mint condition and in full working order, only selling as I have a rack version which has made this redundant and is merely taking up space! Looking for £150 delivered, trades and offers also considered. Thanks! -
Hi Jamie, All is well thanks mate - on further consideration, I would be looking for offers around the £375 - £400 mark for the Jazz, which is less than I paid for it a year or so ago, and for the Fretless I would ask for what I paid for it, £450, as it has only been played once or twice since it was bought 6 months ago! If nobody has anything to trade then ill accept a cash sale, as Ive seen a couple of nice Bacchus Jazzers on Ishibashi that take my fancy...

Hi All, I have decided that I need a fretted 5 string backup for my Warwick 5, and I would also like a decent Jazz type bass, and ideally would be looking for a trade. So, here is what I have: Ibanez Gary Willis 5 string Fretless - this is a superb bass, plays incredibly well, lovely low action and virtually new strings. Played by many a basschatter at the last bass bash and loved by all who played her! Mint condition, not a mark or scrath/dent on her, and very little play time - never gigged and left sat on a guitar stand for the last few months. Its a great bass, but I just dont have the time to dedicate myself to fretless playing at the moment and its too good a bass to leave on the sidelines. "Jazzbasstard" Jazz Bass - this was bought about a year ago from a former basschat/bassworld member, BassThing68, who built her from scratch. Alder Body from a Signature 1992 Jazz, Allparts Maple neck with pearl block inlays and binding, Reverse tuner pegs, pickups are from 1992 Signature Jazz but they sound very jazzy with a little extra warmth, CTS pots and chrome hardware, Badass II bridge with modification to allow thru body stringing, chrome string lugs on the other side, and all finished in Nitro-Cellulose. No Marks or dents, no dings and nice low action. The Pictures arent the best and the pickup covers are not dulled at all - despite one picture looking dull (its fingermarks). Ill make sure these basses are clean as you like before they leave the house. Here are some soundclips of me playing with the Jazz Live thru my old Hartke 3500/410XL rig: http://media.putfile.com/Natalie---You-Wil...-Know-Live-2007 http://media.putfile.com/Natalie---Whatever-Live-2007 The Jazz is a great bass and if it had an additional string I would keep it, but at the moment I need to find a suitable 5 string backup bass. Im interested in any decent 5 string basses, preferably Jazz type basses and Im a sucker for blocks and binding - also fancy the Marcus Miller Jazz bass so show me what you have and give me some food for thought! Cheers!

How good do you need to be to work in a cover band?
Don't do it. PLay jazz for money instead, it's easy to do (playing crappy versions of standards like St Thomas, Autumn Leaves etc) and in my experience pays better (If you are in a trio, say, Sax, Keys, Bass/Upright, £200 or £250 splits better between 3 than 4 or 5) - Then create your own music in your spare time.
Fair comment, but I have to say that playing in a covers band has a huge benefit. There is nothing wrong with playing Jazz ina trio/quartet as you mention, and it may well bring its own invaluable experiences and some extra cash, but playing in a covers band will develop you as a player in various styles and situations. It teaches you another skillset and can expose you to some fantastic music you may not have heard previously. I live by two steadfast rules for bass playing: 1 - whatever you do, it is improving on what you already have 2 - Whatever you do, do it like you mean it! -

I gigged with a Hartke 4x10 XL cab and I had the Peavey TVX cab you mention a few years before that - IMHO, the Hartke is a much better cab. It never once let me down, very clean sounding, very articulate and can do singing highs and thumping lows. The ONLY reason I sold mine last month was to get a more lightweight solution - but I guess weight isnt an issue here as the Peavey and Hartke Cabs are about the same weight from what I recall. There is also something magic about the 3500 head with the XL cabs - they just seem to "fit" if you know what I mean - funnily enough, I had a full Hartke stack for many years and never ever ever found myself wanting for more sound wise.

How good do you need to be to work in a cover band?

From my own experiences, I spent 5 years playing in originals bands and working on getting a good handle on the bass, developing my ear and theory etc before I decided to bite the bullet and join a covers band. I didnt think I would get much benefit from it but as you learn other peoples songs, you are essentially giving yourself ideas for your own playing and Im having loads of fun with my covers band, despite not actually writing anything. The Benefits: - Playing every weekend means your live chops improve quickly - Pub gigs, in my experience, pay between £150 - £350 a night, for 2 x 45 min sets (so £50 a night is possible) - Weddings and corporate functions are harder to get but can pay very well - anywhere from £1000 upwards - You are constantly learning songs and developing your ear - You get paid for playing bass - You meet loads of people! The Downsides: - You can quite easily get screwed by agents - You need to market yourself properly for the bigger, well paid gigs - You need to invest in a good website and demo of yourselves - You have to make sure that the music you play caters for the audience My best advice would be to just throw yourself at it and see where the experience takes you - you dont need to be a virtuoso to play any gig but you need to be a tight band and an entertaining band to get the well paid gigs. -
I think that's it now. Difficult to top this - quality components, not too heavy and silly loud and I mean silly loud. It also sounds absolutely stunning. Apologies for my photos - lousy light and a bad attitude. The only decent pic (close up of the amp/preamp) courtesy of my mate Flanker. EBS Classic Preamp V1 QSC PLX2 3102 Epifani NYC212
STONKING setup you have there Al me old mucker! 3100 Watts from that poweramp - no wonder it is silly loud! Ive got the QSC PLX 2402 at 2400 Watts bridged and that is just ridiculously loud so I bet yours can knock a small child over at 100 paces!

Nice bass - looks remarkably like the Spector 5 that Alun (homerplaysbass) used to have a few years ago. If it is indeed the same one then it is a real cracking bass!

@ Ped: I've had the warwick stage one for a few months now, did I not tell you about it? I traded my P bass for it as it didn't get any playtime - and I don't regret it, the stage one is a real versatile beast! Its very modern sounding in places but it does a very good impression of a p bass and a jazz bass - its loaded with EMG's and an Aguilar 2 band pre, which is very powerful. The Epifani hasn't disappointed me yet - spent a while tweaking my patches and at low volume it soundshuge. I'm in the studio next thursday so ill give it a proper bashing at volume.

Nice rig there peted, nice to see some more Hartke love on here! The ONLY reason I ditched my hartke 410XL for the Epifani is because of weight, and ill be keeping a close eye on the new Hartke HyDrive stuff when it comes out over here. If it sounds like a 410XL but weighs sod all I might be tempted to sell the Epifani!
Very nice Luke, me likey lots. The UL310 is a superb cab, the rest of it ain't too shabby either mate.
Hi Guys, As some of you may know, ive been trying out various lightweight cabs in the search for a suitable replacement for my trusty old Hartke 410 XL, now in the capable hands of Mr Tinman, and have finally settled on a cab to complete my setup. Since getting to grips with the Bass Pod (Thanks to Ped for the help!) and spending many months twiddling and tweaking my patches to suit the sounds I need from each of my basses, I wanted to find a cab with as minimal colouration as possible, so as to accurately emulate my sounds from the Pod in a live situation. I tried many cabs and decided I wanted a Tech Soundsystems/TecAmp ND 410 cab, however I was unable to find one for love nor money in this country and didnt fancy importing one, so earlier today I popped to the Bass Gallery in North London and tried out the Epifani UL 310 cab they had for sale. After about an hour and a half of deliberation and testing with various basses similar to my own, I bought it - its not as clean as the Tech Cabs I tried before, but its good enough. It weighs Sod all, it sounds HUUUUGE and it has a decent tweeter built in. Anyway, im yet to try it in anger with the band but here is my new toy! And my Rack.... And with my Basses.... Warwick Streamer Stage One 4 string with Aguilar 2 band Pre and EMG pickups, Warwick Streamer LX 5 "JazzBasstard" & Ibanez Gary Willis fretless 5 Signal Path is currently Bass > AKG WMS 400 Wireless > Bass Pod XT > Aphex Aural Exciter > QSC Poweramp > Epifani UL310. Having played with it in low volumes at home, it sounds great after a little EQ tweaking as it seems to have more Mids than I would expect, but nothing too major. Will need to tweak my patches for all my basses here but its all part of the fun! Enjoy!
